About a month ago I got a Intel D201GLY MB (US $79) and 1G RAM for US $24, with a case (US $62). I added a hard drive for about US $40 and for about US $200 I got a nice little machine. It has a Celeron 1.3Ghz CPU ( with fan ), 1 LAN, 6 USB, 1 IDE for 2 drives, 1 RS232, and a bunch of other things I don't even use:-). Mini-itx is an awesome form factor. VIA is also releasing mobile-itx form factor design which is the size of a Motorola razr with all the features of a mini-itx.
I'd say in 5 years or less, the iMac style display will be standard as a desktop/mobile computer. You would buy a desktop and be able to unhook it from the stand and then use the display as a touch screen.
... there was a movie about this, called the island of Dr Moreau. Well not exactly about this, but about a Dr who took animals and tried to make them human, through altering them genetically. Then there was Star Trek , The Wrath of Kahn, where genetically modified people tried to take over, because they were superior. I'm sure there were more. Part of all this Sci Fi movies is to bring across a point, that there are some things that we should not be mucking with.
But hey, in some states in the US is is legal to buy genetically modified fish that glow under a black light (http://www.glofish.com/). I have heard that in CA they are banned. So I guess some day we will have genetically modified dogs and cats that can talk, so we know what they are thinking.
like tracking someone who is trying to attach or hack your server, or DOS attacks. I don't see a problem with IP Address logging. I think it is necessary these days. If you want privacy, stay home.
Yeah, I think this opens the door to a class action lawsuit, because someone could argue that they accessed their computer, without their permission, thus violating the computer abuse and fraud act.
should be the girl's youth counselor. The counselor is the one who took the photo and released it under the cc license, so the counselor is the responsible party not the users of the photo.
1) installable applications and a dev sdk; 2) todo list; 3) keyboard should be rotatable like the images; 4) option to turn off the screen rotation, imagine turning the camera on its side and taking a photo, then when you try to review the photo; 5) large, medium and small options for screens so that people have a choice; 6) works on other networks like sprint, verizon and t-mobile ( usa ); 7) higher resolution camera ( 2mp is good, but next year it will be standard ); I can't think of anything else right now..
I guess this means they need to start selling their assets like all those 'patents' and copyrights they have.. maybe IBM or novel should buy them and release them into the public domain to finally put to bed this ugly beast.
Yeah, ok, replace my 1Gig lan connection with a 10-20Mbit wifi connection. WTF!
Does it go through walls? Wifi is good for coffee shops, outside, home lans, hotels, and has some use in office, but it wont replace wired any time soon IMHO.
I've stayed in a hotel where to get wifi access I had to stand next to the door. If it was wired, I could have used the desk. My home wifi does not go through my concrete fireplace nor does it go to my living room, so I'm sticking with wired for now.
QNX is not doing as well as they would like, so they think they can capitalize on open source and maybe take advantage of those who are afraid of the GPL v3.
Yeah that may sound trollish, but there are several companies that are doing the open source thing because they are not doing so well.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I'm just saying QNX is not doing as well as I think they would like to.
I have to wonder now if this is inherited or learned behavior. I've seen several conservative families have liberal children. So it makes me think that this is NOT genetic, but a learned trait.
Personally I think it is better to learn to be open than closed.
Well my job is a front end UI developer and I need to see what new and cool stuff is out there and how it is being used. Since the company is blocking everything it makes it hard to see what is new and cool, and hard to do my job. When the company wants me to work weekends and longer hours because they are short staffed and decide to dump all this on me, then I need to be able to take 5 minutes every now and then to take a mental break.
I can see blocking myspace, and youtube, but yahoo mail? I can get that same virus from checking mail on the exchange server too. So I guess using your philosophy they should just block the web too. Then I would have to quit, because I would not be able to search the web for information on issues I encounter, when CSS that is supposed to work, does not work in IE, because IE is a peice of crap. You know most of these stupid virus are IE and MS related. If you really wanted to fix the problem, you would just ban windows in the office and you would solve most of your problems.
Yes and those same companies are expecting their employess to work more and more hours. If I am to spend 2/3rds of my life in the office working for that company, then they need to have allowances for me to take a 5 minute break to see a video or actually check my personal email.
NO! Why? Because NBC already offers most of its shows online at nbc.com anyway. I watched 1/2 a season of heros on NBC.com. It is all flash video and had commercials as well. The only thing is that I could not take it with me. I really don't like watching TV on that little ipod screen anyway, and it would probably look crappy on a 32" tv anyway.
Do you really want to pay for what you can get for free anyway? I think NBC realized that they were not making the kind of money they expected to on iTunes for TV shows and they also are loosing site traffic.
.. there really should be a law against someone getting a patent and not using it, especially in software. The whole purpose of a patent is to give someone the opportunity to make money from selling their patent before it become public domain. The idea of getting a patent and then just using it to sue other people who implement that technology without them knowing of your patent, seems to me that it would invalidate your patent, but showing that it is 'obvious to one of ordinary skill, in the art...'. Thus the patent should be voided for being an obvious invention.
or will it be like my earthlink account, where I get anywhere up to 1.5MBPS? Right now I am getting about 800k, which is less than the 1.5MBPS they advertise. So, will this be a guarantee or an upto?
Evolution is the only thing that makes sense now, IMHO. God is not a proven theory either. There is no proof that he/she/it exists. Outside of the bible, which was written by people, there is nothing that proves that god exists. There is proof that some of the stories in the bible may have happened, like the flood, Jesus was a person, but there is no proof that miracles actually happened. It is all a bunch of stories. Have you ever played the telephone game to see how distorted a message gets after being told from person to person?
Have you ever thought about the evolution of god? There used to be many religions that believed in many gods, now they have almost entirely been replaced by the belief in a one all powerful god. Hmm, it is almost like 'my god is better than your gods'.
At this point I would say god is a hypothisys and evolution is an theory.
So my question would be, if not evolution then what do you believe and where is your proof of your beliefs?
.. no seriously.. somehow we can't seem to educate people these days, so we all get left behind, but since we are all behind, it doesn't look so bad. It should be called, all children left behind.
.. online advertising was not thought of as a viable business model.. maybe they should try creating a real product that does deserve people to pay or try using less invasive adds.
All I could think about in high school was not getting beat up, keeping my grades up and sex. WTF!
I would not expect someone only 14 to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Heck, even when you graduate from high school, most people don't know what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
How about offering electives in HS that allow students to try more things out instead of closing them in at such an early age.
I just got a mini-itx computer to replace my old 333Mhs computer. I used that as a build box. The new mini-itx now runs both windows and FreeBSD and continues to be a build box, but will also be my itunes box. It is really fast, faster than I thought it would be. It does a buildworld in a few hours as opposed to the 333Mhz which took a few days. I love the space savings of these little systems and I am planing to replace my server with another mini-itx system.
I have found small PSU's. In fact my current case has a PSU that is about 1/3 the size of a regular PSU, if not smaller. I also know they have smaller PSU's.
There are LOTS of cases out for mini-itx that are small too, however I have not been able to find any cases for nano-itx or pico-itx. So where are the cases for pico-itx?
I know that it would probably fix in a mini-itx case, by then why but the pico-itx if I can't get a pico case?
I'd love to take a pico-itx MB and find about a 7" lcd display and case and make a tablet pc or laptop. That would be sweet!
Anyone want to start a business making mini-itx based laptops or tablet computers?
Yeah, I know cause I used to work there. They are all a bunch of lazy government employees, that are just waiting for their pensions to kick in.
I hate flying for this very reason! Airlines want to screw you so bad, I fly as little as possible these days.
I'd say in 5 years or less, the iMac style display will be standard as a desktop/mobile computer. You would buy a desktop and be able to unhook it from the stand and then use the display as a touch screen.
while they may not be as small as this, they offer more flexibility as 256M RAM is not really going to run Win XP very well is it?

I can't believe people want a radio transmitter implanted in them and then think there wont be repercussions..
So the company I am at just blocked a large online free web mail application, because of 'ActiveX', which is used by IE for AJAX.
They also block, youtube, myspace, flicker, and several other site, and anything that comtains music or video. It is beginning to suck working here.
