Yep, I've been using Unison to sync up my work laptop (over ssh from work!) with my home linux server, and Windows PC's on my home LAN. It works like a charm! It does seem picky about versions, though, you have to have the same version on all your PC's.
But statistically, you can estimate how many cars are on the road.. Like if you know that 87% of cars have cell phones, you can figure out approximately how many cars are on the road. Presumably you'd only have to have the phone turned on, not be speaking on it. (oh, and the 87% I pulled out of my ass, I have no idea what the actual percentage is, nor did I RTFA)
Is it just me, or is there way too much advertising these days? Radio is almost completely unlistenable to me since most stations play about 20 minutes of commercials each hour, TV has the same problem. Hell, even when you *pay* to get into a movie, you have to watch 20 mins of trailers for other movies, plus actual televeision ads!! Not to mention all the product placement in movies. Email is almost completely useless because of spam, and blogging is heading that way. Usenet was killed by spam years ago. Most of us here are using AdBlock and other techniques to reduce advertising on web sites. You can't even download shareware anymore without it coming bundled with ad-ware. And now I'm getting voice mail spam on my cell phone (any idea how frustrating it is to listen to a voice mail while in rush hour traffic, navigating the menus and stuff, since it might be a work or family emergency, only to find out it's spam?). Plus I can't even drive on the highway without being bombarded with billboard ads, not to mention that every car in front of me has a nice little manufacturers ad glued to the bumper. And then there's Google style ads -- little text only blurbs that are related to your search (or gmail content). These are even more insideous, since they're harder to filter out.
Sorry for the rant, but this is all just becomming too much, and it's only getting worse. Are we as a society willing to accept this in the name of free services?
Haha, no, it was a hotel employee, and it happened on the hotel grounds, so it wasn't threatening at all. The locals sure aren't shy about asking for stuff, though.
Oh yes, I do remember that one.. wasn't that the only game whereby they re-mapped the colour/black&white switch to toggle the map view or something? Really great game, by the way.
Don't forget that for many people around the world, their only exposure to American culture is TV. They think everyone drives around in Porshes and lives in multi-million dollar homes.
When I was in the Dominican Republic, one of the locals asked me for my jacket.. his justification for asking was that a $200 jacket is nothing to me, I can buy 10 more when I get home.
Back in the doom days, I always prefered the keyboard over the mouse or joystick, but these days you have to use a mouse for aiming, just for the speed you get out of an analog device (your aim moves as quick as you move the mouse), whereas a keyboard is a fixed speed.
My company recently turned on all the complex password options in all our systems (you must use letters, numbers *and* symbols, you can't repeat passwords, you can't even have a letter in the same position as your previous password, must be changed every 30 days, etc, etc). Now users passwords are so complicated, I've seen them writing them down on sticky notes and sticking them to the side of their monitor. Sort of defeats the purpose. And it's not like these servers are exposed to the internet or anything, it's all a private corporat WAN.
Is Google's definition the same as ours? Or can that definition change over time?
Wrong, that would be Google!

'cat' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Bug off, Windows Notepad rules! ;-)

Maybe measuring cell phone usage would be chearper and easier than installing these devices everywhere.
That's funny, I had the opposite experience with a real estate agent. All he does is put the listing on the 'net, and nothing else!
And unbeknownst to historians, Darwin invented the first spam filter, based on his patented Natural Selection algorithm.
Probably it's not even a technical problem, just some BOFH having some fun on the mail server!
Offtopic? How do you figure? Did the mods miss the "sent from my Blackberry" at the bottom of the comment? I thought it was pretty funny.
* There were no "lasers" in 1960. At least not the very stable continuous-wave lasers that you need for this, and especially not in the USSR.
Why do I think of Doctor Evil and Austin Powers whenever I see the word laser in quotes?
Isn't that also the second rule?

I thought a Monad was when you lost one of your gonads. Or was that mononad.

teehee!
And more importantly, are my other LED's shooting rays at me as well? ;-)
I'm just glad I wasn't on the project.
Actually if you click on gavriels's name up in the top of the blurb, it links directly to www.transgaming.com
