Why is any religion not of Christian origin called a "cult"?

This is simply incorrect. Major world religions with some history behind them are not called cults while many sects that have their roots in Christianity are considered cults.

That being said, I wonder how they managed to cull the genetic goofs that cloning invariably leads to?

I would imagine their story would be that the aliens taught them how to goof-proof the process.

  3. Re:Medicine vs. agriculture on Complications · · Score: 1

We dont bother to get to know our doctors, we just rush in, expect instant healing, and want to be about our business again.

If your doctor has a very small case load this is possible, but how many doctors are going start a cascade effect that makes the next 20 patients have to wait even longer just because you'd like to chat? The person in room 8 needed extra time because their condition warranted it and the emergency that had to be worked in already took another half-hour from the patients to follow.

The best you can do is get to know the doctor during well visits (annual physicals and such) and less demanding medical conditions to build confidence in their abilities. If you do have opportunity to chat with the doctor you're likely to mistake good bedside manner with competence and they don't always go hand-in-hand.

The problem with your 'get to know the doc' idea is that for critical, life-and-death medical decisions, your GP isn't likely to be the one calling the shots anyway. You're probably going to find yourself in the care of some trauma team in the ER or under the knife of some specialist in the OR and you may never meet the doctor until the deed is done.

And why do the images on the front page say "click for larger TIFF images" when they bring up JPGs. Sounds like some dual screen elitist crap.

The images (which don't say anything) have a caption that says, 'Click Image to Enlarge'. Clicking the image does indeed give a larger .jpg but clicking on the link below the caption, which says, 'Click here for Large TIFF image' gives a .tif image.

  7. Re:Pointless on Dual Screen/Display Laptop · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm not sure what 'protability' is, but this would be just as portable as a laptop because it's basically two laptop sized screens that fold together. Unless your laptop has an inspector gadget keyboard and screen that folds multiple times (with cartoon sound effects?) and slips into your pocket you have not made a valid point.

  8. Re:iPod on Apple's Present: iTunes Supports Ogg Files · · Score: 1

That really wasn't the question though, was it? Pointing out that most ogg players also handle mp3 doesn't help someone looking to play ogg rather than mp3. Now, if your contention was that there weren't very many mp3 players that don't also play ogg it might have been considered helpful information.
