Single signon is a pretty stupid idea. What if I'm signed in, and reading some mail, and then I get up for a coffee. Now, while I'm AFK, somebody else comes along and starts using my browser to go to amazon.com. Since I'm already logged in, they can order a load of stuff on my credit card, and have it delivered to their own address.

OK, this could happen already because I have an amazon cookie on my system which means I don't need to log in each time. But, I can always remove the cookie and force a sign on the next time I go there. With single sign on you won't have that option, you will always be logged in.

Yes it is possible: case in point, the Ancient Egyptians are known to have used mouldy bread (which contains penicillin) to treat wounds, yet they had no knowledge of germ theory.

Once you understand about germs however, you can figure out how penecillin works, and can start to manufacture better antibiotics.

That won't help you if the data coming down the pipe can only be decrypted by "Judas's" (I like that BTW) Fritz chip/Palladium OS, whatever. Even capturing the encrypted stream for later playback likely won't work, because Judas will issue challenge/response signals which will not be recognised.

AFAIUI, TCB on AIX (phew, lot of acronyms) just monitors a list of files to make sure they don't change. And it's a PITA if you don't realise it's running - I once editted /etc/groups by hand on such a machine, and it locked everyone out of the system, including root. I ended up having to reinstall the OS from scratch.

    Oooops...

  21. My theory on Egyptian Pyramid Rover Finds... Another Door · · Score: 2
I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means, but having seen the program, here's my theory.

The Queen's chamber is some way below the King's chamber and was obviously constructed first since the pyramid was built from top to bottom (duh). At one point in the program they mentioned how building spaces higher up in pyramids was a fairly recent accomplishment. Prior to that, spaces higher up were impossible, due to the weight of stone outside such chambers collapsing them.

My theory is that the so called Queen's chamber was a fallback (if you'll excuse the pun), in case the higher, King's chamber, were to collapse during construction. Above the King's chamber are several other spaces which are believed to be load bearing gaps to prevent the pyramid falling in on the King's chamber. It seems likely to me that the engineers could not have been 100% sure that the King's chamber would be structurally sound.

I'm making a guess that that is why the Queen's chamber has these shafts; if the King's chamber had collapsed, then these shafts would have been connected to the outside, however, once it became obvious that the King's chamber was sound, work on the Queen's chamber stopped.
