    Replaced a system that was running on an old minicomputer that was no longer supported by the vendor and they were cannibalizing old systems to keep running. That is EOL.

    Yup. Virtualization will transform the whole department in a short amount of time, and getting training for it is straightforward.

    It's not crazy... if they started a business arm with a distro and support like RH it would probably be quite profitable.

    Yup, but a broken clock is right twice a day. For what it's worth the Horizon mission was very successful.

    That's BS. My son was diagnosed with HFA and PDD when he was in grade school and the psychologist wanted to put him on a course of 5 drugs. She had the little pharmaceutical pads, pens, etc all over her office. Of course we refused but she pushed hard.

    I am confident that he would have been ruined if we had relented. Don't tell me that there isn't a profit motive here for pharmaceutical companies! Without the advertising for drugs (for those who are younger this used to be outlawed) and doctors pushing the stuff there would be very few parents clamoring for the stuff.

    If we actually fixed the ridiculous cost of healthcare in the USA (ie what government spends on it now) we could pay for it with no new taxes.

    It's not really the same. Sure anyone could come up with a plan to clone humans for instance, but without testing on real embryos and viability by implantation it probably won't be a working plan. The testing part would be the illegal thing.

    I am not sure about gravity waves but neutrinos will pass through matter- you could communicate right through a planet. Maybe you have a star system on multiple planets and don't want to lose communication with the other planets when they pass behind the star. However it is hard to imagine this would completely supplant easily made EMF.

    A new textbook goes for 50$... so if one of these is lost or stolen the impact to school or students to pay fine are the same.

  23. I doubt in the context of /. there are many sun worshipers here. I wear a hat and avoid extended periods in the sun but there is no way I am slathering that stuff on my face every time I go outside.

    Way too many 'ghost bikes' out where I live. Fortunately we have endless miles of XC off road trails in my area so I don't need to ride on the road any more.
