Look, I hate the RIAA as much as anyone else on this forum, but did we honestly need to resort to that type of summary in order to grab readers?
"leaving her fend for herself" -- The lawyer that left was helpful for quite sometime, but has to feed himself (and family?) as well. You're throwing this guy away like he's part of the prosecution or something. He needs to make money like anyone, and she obviously can't pay those kinds of fees. Time for another crusader to shoulder some of the burden.
My wife is very much the type of person they were marketing to. She loves reality shows, X17, pink anything (including Victoria's Secret's line 'PINK'), and her Macbook --- not only because of it's function, but it's beauty.
The stereotype does hold for some people.
I own an iMac, a Macbook, Apple TV, and an iPhone. I love each and every one of them because I think they're useful, pretty, and reasonably priced for what I received.
A Mac Pro is not reasonably priced. Not even remotely close.
You know what's crazy? I spend $45 (30 GBP) a month for my iPhone and have unlimited data and plenty enough minutes/texts per month. Oh, and that's with relatively decent 3G coverage. Only in the most remote areas will I lose 3G, but still have the slower service.
I sympathize with her, however... We've all lost someone at a point in our lives, and there's countless recreations of it in TV, video games, and movies. Take for instance, my father died years ago from a heart attack --- should we thus ban "Sanford & Son" from reruns because he constantly fakes a heart attack in a humorous manner?
I currently serve overseas in England, and I just returned from Iraq 3 months ago. I wasn't pleased about being sent there (from a political perspective) but I did my duty with honor, and worked my ass off while I was there. My wife knows what she signed up for when we got married, since I was already in the military. She wouldn't deserve any money or additional sympathy from anyone that you wouldn't give to a homeless man --- she said "yes, I understand your job is to kill people and break their shit" so to speak.
Either way, the woman described above does deserve sympathy. Loss of a loved one is hard, though eventual. But let's not put him on an unrealistic pedastal where money flows like rain for those around him. Each life is precious, and should be treated as such.... American or Iraqi, homeless or even "terrorist".
I'm not sure I would have modded this troll. There's quite a few emotions being slung around about this game/facsimile/simulation. I have a feeling that Mangu lost someone very special, and reacted in an understandable manner to the topic.
Let's keep the conversation sensible on both sides.
I don't really get why people modded this Funny. Would you really like someone to make jokes about something tragic that happened to your daughter? Your wife? Your mom?
This isn't 4Chan.
Just because boot times are not the #1 priority for you, doesn't mean it's not important (or even #1 for someone else). If you're going to knock the hard work people put into an OS, at least provide examples of your flawless contributions to the arena.
-- Requiring ISPs to send out warnings to zombie machines would help, but I'm not sure if I'd like to give them the opportunity to use packet inspection on my connection to verify the nature of the traffic. That's a slippery slope.
-- How does the Internet Police cross international boundaries in a legal fashion? A Status of Forces Agreement, perhaps? Would England really like Argentina (for example) to shut customers off because they're supporting a botnet?
-- What enforcement tools would be utilized to force people to use anti-virus/malware programs? What are the consequences for the user if they choose not to?
There's quite simply too many potholes for a one-nation or government solution, I think. I can't think of a country that's fixed all of their own individual problems, much less open up an Internets Po-Po division to take care of a global problem as well.
"But seriously, even though he's not a lawyer anymore, that doesn't stop him from getting one to act as his proxy." --- Quote
True, it doesn't stop him from getting a lawyer. But if I was in that profession, I think the last client I would want to take legal advice from would be someone who was disbarred...
I must be "thinking different" then. I'm very much a nerd (fluent in several computer languages, WoW raider, communications deployment tech, etc) and I'm ecstatic I took the plunge a few months ago and bought an iMac.
It takes very little boot time, requires almost no maintenance on my part (active scanning, AV, defrag), and just works. I won't debate the security of the system --- that'll just start a food fight in here.
Do some people use a Mac because they don't understand anything about computers? Sure! After my wife played with my computer for a few weeks, she wanted a Macbook. I'm pretty happy with it, too. She's dumb as a brick, and I had to constantly show her simple tasks in Windows. Not on the Mac:)
Very relaxing. As a musician myself, it boggles my mind that someone would want to stop another from listening to music! I perform on stage to entertain --- that's my reward. I make a healthy enough living from it, but my primary reason for playing music is to get that adrenaline rush from pleasing a crowd.
It simply doesn't get any better.
I'm surprised that was modded +Insightful, or did I log into the wrong forum? I'm sorry to hear that the little respect you have for the US military is gone --- you're taking an isolated incident, and lumping all of us together. I'm an honorable, respectful, and hardworking Airman of the United States Air Force. I work some long hours at "home" (where I'm stationed overseas) and some ridiculously long hours when deployed, so that you can thumb your nose at me and my comrades.
And as long as I'm in the military, I will continue to Fly, Fight, and Win* so that your right to do so is ensured (assuming you're an American citizen)//signed//

Boo. It was intended to be funny; not derogatory...
Disregard that, I suck CoX?
I have mod points, and really wanted to mark the above post... but I don't see a "+5, Weird" setting...

"Ok! Ok! I must have, I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. Shit! I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail."
I'm not sure I would classify NIN as "Contemporary" in the same manner as say, Amy Grant :)
That wasn't even remotely "troll" behavior. It's informative, accurate, and well written. Wow.
I wish I could mod you to +6 :)

Why is it so expensive from AT+T?
I certainly hope there's no "taste".
"...the user simply waves their hand above it in the air..." These are not the droids you're looking for.

That's not what (s)he told me!
It's a joke. If you'd like me to explain it, I will... but I assumed you had previously seen this internet meme.

Why do you hate America?
