as long as there is a fast forward button on the pvr, ad skipping is not that big a deal. armed with my tivo and the "skip forward 30s" button, i am a deadly human ad-eraser.
given enough time, anyone would be able to figure it out well
yah without consulting the list of the "top ten" virii, i would say the ones that get passed by floppy and email via word and excel documents are probably actually the most common ones... not the ones that have been hyped.
i remember the ones that used to be really ubiquitous in the DOS/win3.1 days were the boot sector virii... those things were everywhere! and they could be passed on by floppy
umm... who is ACTUALLY going to pay 2500 dollars for a piece of crap computer just so they can wear it? if someone wants to make these things mainstream, they have to be somewhat affordable. how much R&D can there possibly freakin be?!? i refuse to believe that the parts come anywhere close to being this expensive.
i am glad to have REAL news back... i haven't read anything all day with all this april fool's nonsense.
i don't know why /. keeps linking to these guys

it amazes me that you can sell 1 billion dollars worth of stuff and still lose money

Anyway... the videos downloaded too fast. An interesting question: what does it synchronize to? Outlook? I hope so. And for the users that don't use outlook? Hopefully a slimline but functional application like palm desktop. I hope they let people write apps to let this thing interface with anything.... of course i'm sure they won't let it talk to the PC.
um.... if this was bronze age, wouldn't it have preserved in the state it is in before the same vesuvius eruption that wiped out pompeii? or are you saying this was another vesuvius eruption. sorry... i have been studying the kidney too much today
replay tv allows you to send the copy of the show that you recorded to someone else with a replay over a broadband internet connection... tivo just records... you can't get the digital file off the box.
there's been lots of will wheaton news lately! my friend is supposed to be on the weakest link soon... but i think it is moving to syndication. i guess it will be relegated to that funky pre-primetime 7-8 pm timeslot
i would like to know what setup you are using (cdr, architecture, which program, which OS) i am of the opinion you can't really get a quality rip much past 12x
I think it sounds funny, and you guys are probably going to get all bent out of shape... but i wonder how many people of the target audience actually watch this.... it'll probably get more hits from slashdot than anything else...
first of all, this is a card... this is not a camera that rides around with you. you probably have a driver's license that can be scanned. chances are it has been scanned so you can get into a bar. try getting onto an airplane or buying a gun or alcohol without identification. IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN (with the exception of the alcohol if you are older). if anything a facial scan and fingerprints will increase your personal security, because someone won't be able to impersonate you as easily. the last time i checked if you did something before there was a law against it... you couldn't be prosecuted... anyway... you all are WAY too paranoid on this website. i think you guys think cool because you think that what you do is subversive. someone called linux a hacker OS. well, obviously you have no intelligence. someone can do just as much damage with windows as they can with linux. people like linux... it gives Microsoft (a little) competition.
i still like the driver's license argument... we already have them... they could run with that. i don't really care if people know who i am. i am not a criminal!
don't forget... windows and mac are the only supported operating systems (probably) therefore, they don't have to assume that there are any other kinds of OSes on their network, because they only support Windows and MacOS.
the awards show was sunday, it is taped. the winners have been on various websites since then

actually they won't talk about that on that message board... you have to go a little more underground than that.
they won't let you discuss downloading media or stealing service on those boards

as a university student, i can buy office and windows xp for a reasonable cost. i don't mind buying them. when you say yes to an EULA, you say yes...
i would say if you agree to the TOS when install and sign up for the game, you are bound by it. if it says no dice... no dice.
this site is being run by a guy on roadrunner running apache on linux. i always wondered what would happen if one of those boxen got /.ed
It's nice to see a review that is NOT by tom's hardware on slashdot... nice to see a little variation in the works

this guy purchased the box (for $500) you can buy an audiotron for $275, which is database driven... but has no display
I still think it is amazing that they can use a spectrometer from orbit to tell what elements are on the surface of a planet....
could you run all of those cool arcade emultors on this linux port? optimized versions?
