It's not just Spiderman the movie, the musical. This production has sprouted balloon feet and a propeller out of its head as it makes its way to crazy town.
The character breakdowns provide some insight to plot points as the character Arachne ("female, 20-35 years old, any ethnicity") is described as "a beautiful, boastful young woman turned into a spider for her hubris and lack of respect for the gods. She subsequently appears to Peter Parker and the audience as in turn a powerful spider-woman who comes from another time to inspire Peter; an otherworldly lover; a bride; a terrifying (and sexy) dark goddess of vengeance; a dance partner in a charged and violent spiders dance of death; and, finally, a lonely, fragile young woman." Casting is seeking a "strong Celtic, Balkan style, e.g., Sinead O'Connor," noting, "outside the box ideas are welcomed. Could be someone from the music industry."
Also, a "Geek Chorus" consisting of "three teenage boys and one girl" are described to "meet to ritualistically retell the greatest Spider-Man stories."
So if you had the time and inclination, you could cobble together a choose your own adventure version of Zelda, right? You have the dialog trees and narrative progression already. If you combined it with a googlemapsy version of Hyrule, you could have a web 2.0, ajax enabled monstrosity, right there at your fingertips.
MF Doom should be in this list. He's more "real" rap I suppose because he's got more street cred and Melanin than some of those listed, but he wears a damn Dr. Doom mask and has a whole supervillain persona.
Plus he's got Stan Lee samples on his albums. How dorky is that?
Also, have the older "rap is crap" crowd taken the day off because usually these stories have whole threads about how music died in the 60's?
Exactly. And now that the first Heinlein prize has been handed out, the first Alfred Bester Award for excellence in the field of distributing the first Heinlein Prize can be given out as well.
One word: pogcasting.
You think? Pogs went out with OK Soda and that Soul Asylum album everybody had. I don't think anybody really wants to listen to a radio show about pogs. But hell, I've been wrong before.
...can anyone recommend which one(s) are the best (where best = the platform goodness of the original, not into super mario kart and that kind of stuff)?
Super Mario 3 is my favorite, and the last of the NES generation 2d Mario games. SMB3 really set down the blueprint for diverse levels and fun powerups. It introduces the oft mentioned Tanooki suit, which is a heck of a lot of fun. SMB3 is like a favorite book and I still sit down with it every couple of years.
Super Mario World is an excellent SNES 2d Mario game where it starts to depart from strict Mario play as you ride around on Yoshi for some of it and the graphics are definately heading towards pseudo-3d. It's also longer and has more buried secrets and levels in it.
"This guy is pretty representative of everything I don't like about video games and gamers."
Really? I think Sony's "the next generation starts when we say it does" attitude and EA's "if it's the only NFL game, they'll have to buy it" business practices are pretty representative of what I don't like about video games.
CliffyB's devotion to his work and willingness to stand on stage by himself play his game in front of a roomful of press and Microsoft bigwigs speaks more to his and Epic's confidence in his work than most presentations at E3.
The industry could use more people like him. He started making games on his own, rose through through the ranks at Epic, growing up alongside the Unreal francise and now he gets to launch his own franchise because of his talent and hard work. What's wrong with that?
It's a nice site, and it means well, but it does a couple of funny things.
First of all it uses the silhouette of Martin Luther King, Jr. as a thermometer bar to load the page. When your activist is fully black, your page is loaded. Not horribly disrespectful, but getting into strange territory.
And secondly, after the immediate shock of being presented with "are you white or colored" we're brought to the same page. So while the point of the site (and arguably this country) is "there is no separate but equal" the design of the site is leading you via separate paths to the same place.
While a fine idea, it's not exactly new. Zipcars have been around for a while. We couldn't have gotten our 144lb TV home otherwise. If you don't need a car everyday, it works out really well. Especially as many employers will subsidize the yearly fee. I think my girlfriend pays $25.00 a year (word to the wise: it's even cheaper if you mooch off your girlfriend)
Although to be fair, it is pretty sci-fi. It's neat to walk up to a car in the middle of a parking lot, wave your wallet over the windshield and climb in.

Why Game Movies Stink

· Score: 2, Interesting
Decent movies; on the other hand; rely on good writing, plot, and character development pretty much EXCLUSIVELY
I disagree. The script might rely on those things exclusively, but a good film is brought to life by a host of elements almost entirely divorced from the writing or plot. The language of film is primarily visual and great films find their voice through their cinemtography and direction as much as they do through their story.
ya, i'm gonna pay $280 for a PS2 and a plastic guitar to play Guitar Hero... NOT!
Wow, a "Not" joke. Did you get that from your 80s joke pack?
From Playbill:
No, poor taste would be insisting that you be allowed to use "improvised magical devices"
We should all head down to the harbor and dump crates of routers into the bay. It worked before.

apparently the replica helmet you get with this edition will be cat-sized.

Of my own free will, I decided to build my own brain slug for Halloween.
Is it just me or does everybody forget to close that tag?
It's Nazi Gold.
The sweetest loot of all.
Or CliffyB will eat a puppy

For what?
Halo 3, The Legend of Simon Conjurer...what?

I'd be hesitant to click on the photos link.
I don't know, I think tubgirl and goatse guy would make a beautiful couple. And the kids would, well be flexible, I suppose.
5 to 6 backups, and your ethics. Small price to pay, eh?
Depends on how much you paid for your ethics.
I'm hardly Christian, but Eve was also the first MOTHER. Unless this thing cranks out robot babies, they've got a bit of a misnomer.
Maybe it does. Noelle, the pregnant robot a can pump out like 5 an hour.
