These cable bastards need to be raked over the coals for this

Cable, unlike DSL, is a shared medium. In other words, if some selfish jerk wants to trade torrents 24/7 and max the bandwidth then that can very well impact every other user on that line.

If their advertisement of "unlimited bandwidth" is several hundred of gigs each month then that is effectively "unlimited."

In my opinion, it is completely reasonable to threaten to terminate service to people who are, in effect, diminishing the service of others.

Don't any of you people read the article. (yes this is slashdot, I know)

President Bush isn't claiming any new found Presidential power. Nor is he saying that the federal government is planning on opening a random 25% of private mail.

The entire article is extremely slanted and only down near the bottom is it revealed that Presidents have always had such power. The most telling part is when the spokesperson mention the "tick bomb" example and the very next sentence was 'Bush, however, cited "exigent circumstances..."'. Using the word "however" gives the impression that President Bush is adding onto the "ticking bomb" powers with lesser demanding circumstances. Completely false.

A slanted hit piece on President Bush and the majority of the readers here and knee-jerking about how President Bush is destroying every American civil right.

If there were no nuclear weapons, the world would be a safer place.

    This is completely false.

If the number of deaths by war were plotted over the course of human history you would see a a line that increased every year and each year the increase grew steeper. Around 1945, by coincidence I'm sure, the number of deaths by war has dropped to about a million per year and it has stayed there ever since.

Nuclear weapons, as illogical as it may sound, save lives.

there is only one county in the world that has ever used nuclear weapons... twice... on civilians.

Case in point. Japan started the fight and they would not surrender. Very conservative estimates of an invasion of Japan's homeland put American deaths at a million and Japanese deaths as a multiple of that. As horrific the destruction caused by the 2 atomic bombs, those bombs saved American and Japanese lives.

The US does not deploy land mines that way and our land mines can be destroyed when they are past their usefulness.
