Yeah I have a standard PS4 not a pro... and agree it's still quite good. Sure I wouldn't mind a pro, but the 4 is plenty fine.. though I had to get an external USB drive as those VR titles are a bit space hungry.
What really has my interest is that it seems that it will be compatible with PSVR
I've not gotten as much use out of PSVR as I thought I would but it's always a hit with friends (Fruit Ninja VR or watching friends get motion sick playing DoomVR in full locomotion mode is always a hoot)
The idea that it will be backward compatible with PSVR makes me happy as it'll give me more time to feel I really got my money's worth out of it as more titles drop
Though it also means they're likely ~not~ going to change their basic operation premise.. using the camera which means no room scaling
Yeah, yeah, I know if I really cared that much I'd go get an HTC Vive
Honestly, I would have except that I need a whole new gaming rig as my gaming laptop is just a bit underpowered/old for VR but still doing well enough for the games I play on it... oh first world problems...
SO yeah, the idea that PSVR will be compatible with it means I'm much more likely to go for it.. but also means that PSVR is not likely to see much in the way of innovations.
Still, just the updated processing power combined with the fact that devs can count on Sony continuing to support it will likely encourage more titles.. which is never a bad thing
Anyway, I've certainly enjoyed the Playstation 4 (though its pretty much just been "VR gaming or Fallout4" and not much else for the past year or so in my house)
That's a nice music sales system you have there.. it'd be a real shame if someone were to deny you rights to sell all A-List artists.... you know, unless you just kind of drop this whole artist portal....
Hmm so Fortnite wasn't really on my radar at all until I read this and was like hmm what's all this, then?
Oh it reminds me of the year or so of my life I devoted to Half-Life deathmatches.... totally not going to.. oh heck, lets have a look-see...... 1 year later... fuuuuuuuccccc....
I swear, we get these so often.. desktops are dead / desktops are dying..
Yeah yeah, sure the vast number of phone/tablet/mobile users are a significant portion of traffic.
However I think these fairly regular announcements of the death of desktop computing are... hyperbolic "outrage bait"
There will always be a place for desktop machines.. PC gaming / VR, Music and video production/editing, development, 3d modeling/ graphic design, all these things are going to keep PCs on desktops for a long time yet IMHO
As a long-time Nikon owner, I am keeping an eye on this.
The big draw of Nikon for me is that nearly every lens they ever made fit onto their modern cameras.. though not all of their camera bodies can provide full connectivity (the older AF lenses used a screw drive type system where newer ones have internal motors etc..) the higher end newer cameras are backward compatible mostly
Granted, I don't own any really old manual lenses anymore (I sold them along with my film cameras years ago).. my lenses are more modern, but the promise of Nikon that the lenses I have are an investment that I can keep using.. well, that's a big pull for me.
Anyway, I saw a lot of hype about mirrorless stuff but was always kinda "meh" but
Full Frame ~and~ with an adapter/mount to make use of my not insignificant lens investment
This could be serious win.. but I"ll still be cautious and not run out to be an early adopter...
I kind of get what kind of things.. but since he's not willing to give examples I can't be sure that he and I are thinking the same things are asinine.
The whole article is just a content-free windmill-tilting session
Remember the failure of the Amphi-car? it was neither a very good boat nor a very good car...
This is how I see apps that are trying to be all things.. phones / tablets / desktops have very different UIs..and for good reason.
Play to each platforms strengths.. Microsoft tried to do this with its windows store Universal Plaform stuff and well, I can't speak for anyone else, but even on my Surface pro, I never run those "apps".. I use it like a PC.. keyboard and touchpad/mouse
Middle of the night... check Kid already found by the time of the alert... check also Kid was last seen (and found safe) at least 1000 miles from my location... CHECK
These alerts do indeed seem like a noble idea, but in practice, they're so "chatty" that I just disabled them all.
I'd disable the "presidential alert" if I could (no, not going to root my phone just to do this) because although I don't think it's ever been used.. I just picture him suddenly becoming aware of its existence and using it at 5am to text "FAKE NEWS!" at the whole country.
The trick is knowing this before you buy... something like this may be pretty obvious to geeks on a technology-oriented forum, but my guess is that the great majority of users won't really pay attention/ notice, and others won't notice till after the fact.
Personally, I never use the voice search features (Siri, Cortana, whatever this one is)... I think it's probably because I've been "into computers" for so long that my experiences with speech to text have been colored by years of high promise and low result... and so even though it's likely a lot better now, I'm too busy shouting for the kids to get off my lawn.:)
If they can't replicate it, then was it ever really true?
I mean I'm really quite sure that metallic Hydrogen exists in Jupiter's core and likely other places in the cosmos, and that creating it was truly a feat of science/engineering.
However, if you can't replicate it then maybe you never actually had it the first time?
I really think that a lot of folks had just said "oh 1k maybe time to "cash in"...
I bet it rebounds and will go through some oscillations every time it crosses 1k until folks get used to the idea that it can go to/higher than 1k then it will creep up and probably take a dip at 1.5k and/or 2k
I think the issue is that he's so out of control that his own campaign had to lock him out of his Twitter account..
Basically, yeah Obama has had the power and hasn't used it, but the thought is that Trump will not be able to resist the temptation to be able to directly message every cell user with unblockable text...
Also, I've already seen several excellent posts helping people block unwanted Amber alerts and some folks offering advice on rooting phones to allow that to be shut off.
I'm willing to take a wait and see attitude, but if he sends one of those texts and it's not because the Great Meteor we've all been hoping for is on its way, I'll consider rooting my phone if there's a way to block the Presidential Alerts.
MegaPixels plus near pinhole camera lens does not "SLR Quality" make.. Granted, as you say it's probably a nice (for a smartphone) camera, but no, optics and physics say it's not going to be anywhere near DSLR quality.
As someone who had an Apple 3gs and then a 4s, then said "I don't really ~love~ my apple, so I'll go Samsung Galaxy S6"... and then realized how much crapware Samsung and the carrier piled on it.. then when I saw how long it took to get StageFright updates out.. I realized just how useful it was having Apple directly updating stuff.
TL;DR: this is why I think I'll go back to Apple when my contract allows it and I'll stick with it despite not really loving Apple.
Hmm when I read this all I could think was "Oh Gods.. so you're saying that FaceBook will just be another Chat Roulette... so cue the dick picks for everyone in 3...2...1.."
Samsung used to be my go-to for monitors and TVs and such, but if they're going to start injecting ads on my TV, I will remove them from consideration next time I need to update.
I will remove any TV from consideration that exhibits this behavior. I will vote with my wallet.

If you want to have an unregistered quadcopter, build your own ... it's not like parts/kits aren't available.
I wonder if this means they'll stop trying to turn Windows UI into an phone OS...
Who am I kidding, that ship has long since sailed... sigh.
Totally agree.

I too was baothered by the FireFox shift toward Chrome, so I went with PaleMoon as my primary browser and have not regretted it one bit.
THe most important addon for me is NoScript and it works fine in PaleMoon.

He gets ONE chance on that.
This sums up my thoughts so much better than I could... and I totally agree... this is really a big black mark on Akamai.
Shouldn't this be saved for April 1?
Seriously - I DNRTFA, but just the summary/headline sounds completely phony.
My skeptisense is tingling.
I just put a piece of electrical tape over unwanted LEDs.
It's cheap, effective, and totally reversible.
