EA is just as guilty of strong arming companies. Starting wayyy back with the Sega Genesis when they refused to pay lisence fees. A few years later they pretty much came out and said that they were going to kill the Dreamcast because Sega wouldn't meet thier demands. Now EA thinks it can make MS back down by saying "We arent gonna give you Madden 2003 online". Big deal. As if EA's evil servers are any better than Microsofts evil servers. This time, I'm on Microsoft's side.
I got one of those letters. For a second I thought DomainMonger had been bought out by Verisign.
I didn't read all the way through the letter before it hit the trash, but i don't remember seeing anything remotely hinting that my site wasn't originally registered with verisign and that I didn't have to send them $29. It's more than sleazy, it's illegal.
But that's what they WANT you to do. Tivo(as great as it is) is in bed with a number of entertainment companies.(NBC and TW/AOL for example) This entire situation was created to kill Replay TV so the entertainment industry's golden child(Tivo) would have a clear path to victory.
You get into you because you like it, the pay is better than McDonalds, and your social skills are such that you can't interact with customers.
The things that make a person a good programmer are the same ones that stop you from being a good manager. So you can't move up and you're too valuable to the company to move down.
You can play MULE on everthing from a Dreamcast to the NUON DVD player using a trusty Atari 800 emulator. I don't see how getting a PC version with gee whiz graphics is news or stuff that matters.
The commercials arent downloaded. They're taped from a cable channel at a predetermined time. I think the Discovery Channel at 4am is the current window. But dont quote me on that one.
I was behind a slower car on the road when I floored the gas and speed by. I moved to the left lane and made a right turn at the light, hitting the apex perfectly. I expected the car to drift a couple more feet to the outside but instead the rear wheels broke traction and I almost lost control.
Thats when I realized I was driving a Chrysler and not the Skyline GTR from GranTurismo.
I'd say either PacMan or Mario was first. Pacman had a couple of TV series, a cereal, and a dance(do the PacMan!). Mario had his own feature film and Capt Lou Albano did a pretty good job portraying him on the TV show.
The Saturn had this kinda cool dual processor thing that, in theory, was crazy powerful. The problem was that only SEGA knew how to utilize both processors and therefore, only SEGA's 1st party games looked any good. 3rd party developers struggled with it and the games suffered. SEGA finally released it's inhouse dev tools(Dragon OS?) to other developers but by then, it was too late.
The XBox has the GForce/P3 thing going and it may be hard to pull the full potential from the box. But so far, the results are pretty good.
I wish my workplace was more like the one on NewsRadio. Fun people, eccentric boss, socializing after office hours, getting into kooky jams and involved in crazy schemes...
Instead, I just sit in front of a monitor, pretending to work while I read Slashdot. Where's Beth when you need her?
By the time they try to get an injuction, the flick is already on DVD. The movie industry may be short on stars, but it certainly has enough lawyers to keep a couple of family members at bay.
Here's a scenario: I want to make a porno starring Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin. I use computers to make a lifelike digital movie. Now theres a good chance that people won't associate these actors with the Little Dictator or Gentleman Prefer Blondes. Instead they'll be known for 'Charlie and Marilyns Hardcore Anal Fantasies (vol.1 - 25)'.
Or take it to a greater extreme:
Brad Pitt refuses to star in my next blockbuster. I kill him and have his digital copy star in it instead. (He's dead so he can't sue).
Good idea or not. You can't modify other people's films and then distribute it(and charge for it). I wonder if the MPAA will sue? If they did, it'd be the first time I was on thier side.
It's true, being a computer geek has lost all of it's appeal. Even when 'geek' was a bad thing, at least you could take solace that you were smarter than the people picking on you. But now, anyone who knows how to double click can be a sysadmin.
Most stuff has already been written so programmers are basically just gluing together peices of pre-written code. Computers are fast enough that theres no sense of accomplishment by getting a routine to run faster. Face it, computer professionals are just glorified paper pushers... and the 'glorified' part is getting less true every day.
Do what I do, just use it to subsidize whatever you -really- enjoy doing.
D
It already there, built into NUON DVD Players. It was written by Jeff Minter and called VLM(Video Light Machine). A hundred+ effects, synced to the music(and not just the beats). 'Trippy' doesnt even begin to describe it.

But why would I want EA to have my data rather than Microsoft? Why should I believe that EA will 'protect' my info any better than MS?

-Mofo!
You damn right.
That mofo is one bad mutha-
-Shut your mouth!
I'm just talkin' about Morrison and Foerster.
-We can can dig it!

Unfortunatley, odds are that as soon as they win the case, the spammer will disappear and resurface somewhere else, only to repeat the process.

CBS cancelled Brimstone. But yeah, Fox still sucks.

If a country's laws dont suit your needs...move.
It's only a matter of time until MS becomes based in the Cayman Islands.

Is that legal? If I buy a Chevy, I'm allowed to paint 'Chevy Sucks' on it and drive it to the Chevy Sucks 2001 convention.
If I buy a pair of Nike shoes, I'm allowed to wear them while running in an 'Anti-Nike Slave Labor' 5k run/walk.
If I buy MSFP, then I can use it to create 'Frontpagesucks.com'.
