Quake 2 was designed to run on systems with different clock speeds. All XBox machines have the same speed and so programmers may assume that a certain thing will happen at a certain time on all Xboxen. Changing that timing may cause strainge things to happen. This may not be the best way to code, but in the console world, it happens a lot.
I just realized that I have 3 Nuon players. I got the N2000 because I was sure this was the beginning of something big. With all the promise of the Nuon, how could it now. Unfortunately, the N2000 was a little weak as a DVD player and I found it simply wouldn't play a number of movies correctly. So then I went with the SD2300, same features as the N2000 but a much better dvd player. And finally, I got the N501 even though I knew Nuon was on the way out.
The Nuon needed much more howrspower and if the features were updated and refined I think they could have done better. For once, I don't think mismanagement killed the technology, the tech just wasn't good enough and no amount of marketing could overcome it weaknesses.
I see it as a slap to the Sega's face by both ESPN and especially EA. EA and Sega have been at each other's throats since the early days of the Genesis (EA refused to pay Sega's liscencing fees for a while) and flared up again when the dreamcast debuted(The only next gen console EA never supported).
It's hard to understand how 2 big corporations can 'dislike' one another, but somehow, it's happened.
This is probaly the best internet virus news I've heard in a long time. Unfortunately, it's only a matter of time before the creator is tracked down and prosecuted for violation of internet security laws.
Enterprise gets 2 nominations and Whedon gets 3? How about dumping the Trek spinoffs and put a couple of episodes of Farscape in. I'll put 'Prayer' up agaist 'Night in SickBay' any day of the week. And 'Carbon Creek' pales up against 'Kansas'.
Also, this shows you how important mindshare is. By many peoples account, Firefly was a show with potential, but it wasn't really good yet. But Whedon's name on it made people believe that it has to be great and deserves an award.
Solaris was easily the most 'sci-fi' movie of the year but Spiderman gets a nod instead?
The realtime images aren't -final- renders of the scene. They're just rough drafts. The scene still has to be rendered in full res/texture, which still takes hours per frame.
What ILM has is a supercharged 'preview' button. Just like when you switch to wireframe mode in Lightwave or Maya and see a 'realtime' preview of the animation you're working on. But I'm sure ILM's version looks little bit better.
I don't see what the big deal is here. They're using water instead on electrons..whoopie. The same effect could be made using a small child as the data carrier.
A kid stands beside the PC. The Computer analyzes a picture, converts it to 16x16, blares out '2!', the kid runs downstairs, presses the number on a keyboard, runs back upstairs, the computer blares '0!', kid runs downstairs, presses number, etc etc etc. Voila! Greyscale image in the downstairs monitor.
I made a short film which is an homage to some of the great car chase scenes, except using only RC cars. It's called MiniMall Security. It's at diabolicalfilms.com.
As you can see in the barR/C videos, the sense of speed when you film a car that low to the ground is incredible.
It does look real. A green laser (Argon or DPSS) is 3-4 times more visible to the human eye than a red laser(which is the color most people think of when the word laser comes up). Since it's a direct beam and not being scanned to make pictures or effects, it looks even brighter. On a hazy night, a laser with a few watts (30-40) of power could be seen for miles.
Because a lot of kids suck at soccer and end up just walking up and down the field slowly while the 4-5 soccer maniacs on the field do their best Pele impersonations.
CGI != Live Action. Maybe one day computer generated effects will be able to fool most people, but it's not there yet. It seems the makers of the Matrix realize that(at least for this sequence).

I revisit my statement.
The PS2 is the only console in the last 15 years to have backwards support out of the box.

Sony was the first major game console maker I can think of that allowed reverse compatibility with its previous products.

I'm sure your computer can edit video just as well as the Farscape fans can. So where's your foreign policy commercial?
It's easy to say 'FUCKING PRIORITIES'. How about doing something about it. they did. So can you.

Thats not true. The PS2 was originally sold at a loss until it was redesigned months after release.

Easy, because most Direct Connect Servers require you to 'share' up 5-20 gigs of your harddrive to the network. Thats a high price of admission.
