What hasn't the record industry moaned and groaned about? If anyone should be moaning and groaning it should be the public... Hell if they saw worldwide peace to be a even slight threat to their income they would moan and groan about... I guess getting a six figure income isn't enough for these good ol' boy network guys anymore....
Oops, that should read "Even old ladies buy LCD's" I work for an wisp, and we were doing an install at an old ladies house... She had a 2.4ghz p4, 512mb of ram, a 64meg geforce4 with digital out, and a 600$ lcd with digital in.. She had the lcd on the analog out, running at 800x600 (looked horrible) and played crossword puzzles on it
With that kind of set up, I think she does more than just crossword puzzles... She's probably got 25,000 kills in CS...

I live in Pittsburgh, which resides in Allegheny county in Pennsylvania. Sad fact is that I hear most of the interesting technical news from the area on Slashdot instead of reading it in the paper or news channel.
Wait nevermind, I never read the newspaper or watch the news channel. I have a high standard for news and somehow Slashdot makes it and the other local sources don't...
I know its just that the list hasn't changed in years, at least a few books could have been added as I am sure there are books out there.
I don't mean to be rude or anything but it just seems like to me someone wrote it up and forgot about it, I just would like to see some additions to it. I am not looking for something comprehensive but it would be nice to add a couple books that might not be as well known as Snow Crash or Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy but books that are still quite interesting.
Have you tried looking at The Jargon File's bibliography?
It's a good list but it is also quite dated.... I mean I think the youngest book was published in 1996. That's 7 years ago, maybe if there were some more recent additions, or even older books but the list has never really changed or gotten any bigger.
When I really want to cool down my room at night I put a fan in my window and use it as an "exhaust" fan, then I open my door and point another small Vornado fan pointing out. Although if I really wanted to cool down my room, then it would be a good idea to move all my electronics out of my room, they heat up my room by about 5 degrees.
Let's see, the movie has been out for what 2 weeks(?), and it has already cleared production costs of BOTH movies, the third film hasn't even been released and it is already paid for by the second film. They are 65 million dollars in the black, something most companies today are having very much trouble doing (thanks Arthur-Anderson and Enron!)
Second thing on my mind is BitTorrent, I haven't tried downloading it, but I have to admit if the.torrent file gets slashdotted, and if the people downloading make sure they have a 1:1 ratio of uploaded megs to downloaded megs, then the torrent will stay alive, and be extremely fast. The few problems I have with BitTorrent is the fact that a Slashdotting(or DDoS attack) does it good, but also if the file isn't popular it takes forever to download, and in my opinion this is sort of because BitTorrent doesn't have a nice GUI that allows myself, a W2k user, to serve various files whenever I want. Let's say I downloaded this movie, or the RedHat.iso's, The easiest way to serve these files is to redownload them, unlike KazaaLite, I can serve certain files whenever I want.
When BitTorrent crosses that final threshold, then it will be extremely successful, at the moment it is definitely in my books a genius solution to a complicated problem.
It was so easy to find... It was under Madonna - American Life and had like tons of users holding a copy.... like I let my kazaalite run a few searches over the 400 limit and it came up with like 117 users sharing the file
I haven't seen one mention of Daikatana, that is the game that most affected me, it was such a let down! Imagine that you are expecting to get this superb car got 16 cylinders 3000 hp, can do a quarter mile in under five seconds and can break the sound barrier, then you end up getting this shitty beat-up old Ford Pinto....
I use it because I am familiar with it, and so is the rest of the family, I taught them how to make cds from MP3's and how to rip them with it, I am not going to teach them again, it was painful enough the first time, and please don't make your bait so obvious when trolling...
I am so glad I am not a member of this ruling class, because there would be some many changes. From caller id actually working, to politicians telling the truth and doing what the people need and want, to e-mail being as secure as a private conversation in a bathroom with all the faucets running.(funny how are technology is so far advanced we can put tap your bathroom but if the faucet is running you can't hear jack)
Is the RIAA really this stupid? They are now going after high school and college kids for money. ...
Isn't that like trying to bleed water out of stone? Or more importantly pulling matter from a vacuum?

Yes you are right, but
Welcome to Slashdot, where speculation makes it news... What the hell is this FOX or something?
I call shenanigans! Or for the common or lay folk, bullshit!

I bet Noah could have used one of these....

Nope, I did the customized one and told it to just bind .avi and .mpeg videos to itself...

Well that explains why George W. Bush declared himself a small business.
