I love it when people flinch or duck when playing games, they look so silly since it clearly does not affect anything (well, before Wii). I do it too, though....usually a sign that you are pretty immersed in the game.
Just at the top. I deal with government workers all the time. I have yet to see/hear of ANYONE asking for a bribe to do their job.
However, there IS corruption in the US government. Mostly at the political level as far as I can tell, as well as the "few bad apples" in the police force. Just because the customs official isn't shaking you down for some bakksheesh at the airport doesn't mean that we aren't weighed down by corruption. See the oil/energy industry, timber/ranching on public lands, etc. You are correct though, a few other countries seem to think rampant corruption is acceptable and just the way it is, but the problem with corruption is that you really only know of the ones who get caught.
Download the highly rated user created modules, they are much better than the storyline that the game shipped with. You'll be pleasently surprised I think.
Aiken Drum, one of the main characters, uses as light bending/background displaying cloak to sneak around Castle Gateway. Supposed tech, not "magic." I am sure there are many others, just the first I could think of.
Sure, I know OS X is based on BSD and is *nix at its heart. I even open up the terminal window occasionally to get into it.
That wasn't really the main thrust of my argument though, just a quick reference to the systems I tend to use, and OS X (CATNAME) is one of them. Sort of like the Square/Rectangle thing.
Not a fanboy of MS, but they certainly haven't rushed Vista out. I'll bet that they do ship it in s pretty buggy state when it does come out, but they have delayed its launch it is becoming like Duke Nukem Forever.
Anyway, yes, most people don't care about software, but you also have to look at what the application is trying to do and what you need it to do.
1) Rules of thumb: The last 50% of a project is spent taking it from 95% to 100% (or really 99% as the case may be...)
2) Is the software used for medical purposes? Financial? Downside to those barfing are HUGE. Or is it a game that is meant as a fun diversion? All of those make a difference in people's tolerance for bugs/undesired effects/undocumented features;-)
The consumers have spoken with their wallets. So far they have said that low cost up front (PC) is worth more than a more stable, polished platform (Mac). Less true now, thouh, XP isn't that bad. I use PC for work, Mac for home, Linux/Unix rarely.
What a great small scale research question. If I do it I will of course credit you, DrWho520, (I think I have met 283 before...)
Anyway, I digress. If you took a random poll of Chinese citizens and asked them about Tianamen vs US citizens and Kent State, I really don't know what the results would be.
My complete GUESS would be that MORE Chinese know of Tianamen than Americans know of Kent State. Thoughts? Anyone have any real data from the Chinese perspective?
True. It is like musicians claiming they have had their music stolen from them. Maybe there is some truly original stuff, but most is personal style with lots of riffs and hooks from the ages. Literature and theater as well. However, if you borrow from enough stuff and throw in references you are considered clever.
Same is true in science. Adapting the methods of someone else whether in a different branch or field, can have amazing results.
BTW, who does the GP want to get the patent rights to on all the German and Japanese war tech? The Germans did invade europe, and the Japanese did attack the US. The usual stuff about spoils, but also, why would you want to let your just defeated enemy to keep his weapons?
Now, if Iraq did have actual war tech, then I guess we (Americans) sort-of-maybe would have been justified going in there. We kind of struck out on that one. Big time.
For those who don't know the SoED +3 offers the following benefits/penalties:
Pros 1) +3 Sci-Fi/Comics/Anime Knowledge Check 2) +1 Money Making Technology Attribute 3) +5 ability to skewer pompous know-it-alls
Cons 1) -5 Charisma score to all but the "Drow-knowing" of Female Humans. 2) +4 vunerability to Jock/Bullies/Bugbears 3) +6 affinity to "reading" Slashdot....
It seems to find that core temp increases help brain function.
I couldn't find the study I remember, which was one where test subjects wore special caps that heated just their heads only 1 degree (which is why they didn't just wear hats I guess). I vaguely remember that it increased a math test performance metric by about 5%.
Anyway, the article writer did not even consider, "hey I put my brain in my chest, now how do I eat with my brain in the way? How do I keep it from getting squished by my supersized meal or lungs, etc." Lots of design issues need to be worked out before you he gets this one off the planning board.
Here would be my favorite adaptations.
1) Better back and knees! 2) Maybe some retractable claws with poison. 3) Gills
I am in sales. Microsoft lost a potential sale, not an actual sale. You have to leave the possibility that the company would have decided NOT to buy the new MS licenses if they had to pay the extra $10K.
I am working/posting to slashdot/ in my home office right now. Wife and 2 daughters in other part of the house. Normally they are good about not bothering me, but last week one or both of my daughters have been home sick each day. My wife also works, outside the house, 2-3 days a week. Guess who satyed with the kids when she had to work. Altogther, it is a plus for me, but it has its down sides. Seeing your associates has real value. It just comes down to what makes the most sense.
I am in tech sales. 100% commision, so it is real easy for my boss to track how I am doing. I think that is probably the key factor for managers/bosses.
Good point. There are tons of "pro-marijuana" posters, but there were only two posts in the heroin section, and they both read a lot more scary than DEA propaganda and half-truths.
It is the UK. Maybe "Transcripts from the house of Commons"? Or "newsprint devoted to Princess Dianna's"?....

To do it properly, just print out the blacked out/"redacted" version as a hardcopy. Scan back in as a PDF. Done. No metadata, etc.

Come on, Walmart may be bad, but they're not Nazis as far as I know.
Although, now that you mention it, maybe the Boys From Brazil/Wal-Mart connection was removed from the Wiki by the propaganda dept.....

They are all trained to not cost Dell money. Period. That is the only metric. Make money, don't spend money.
The best part of that is that Al Gore has no rhythm. Ask the Secret Service guys, even they have more...
