    No one here is disputing Microsoft's right to have a profit. Microsoft would certainly profit if it allowed computer makers to sell either Vista or XP licenses

    However, they are requiring you to buy a "Business Vista" license before you can even buy a "downgrade option" for XP

    Microsoft demands that you pay for the upgrade to Windows Vista Business in order to give you "downgrade rights" to install Windows XP

    Well, I have always worked in the Mexican touristic industry.

    There's a lot to see here, we have beautiful beaches, colonial cities, rainforests, mesoamerican ruins... All kinds of touristic attractions

    A timeshare can be a good investment, when you know what you are buying (read the contract before signing!).

    However the sales guy in a hotel in the caribbean and a sales guy in real state or used cars have a thing in common: they will do anything in their power to close the sale, including grossly exagerating the products features...

    So yeah, I currently work with these guys (I don't do sales, BTW)... But at least I still have a job, which is important, considering that I support a wife and two kids

    Really guys, sometimes I feel glad that I live in a little bit more "socialist" country...

    Here in Mexico, we have socialized health care, and all parents get a "national vaccinations card" for their kid along with their birth certificate.

    This card has spaces for stamps of all the vaccinations kids have to get, along with the ages when you have to take your kid to get them. As part of the National Vaccination Program, the goverment gives all the vaccinations for free (except for the really new ones, like the HPV vaccine for girls)

    "Oh, but I can ignore the card" you say? No, sorry... Your kid will be denied admission in a public school (and basically all the private schools too!) if the parents don't show that the kid has received all of the appropiate vaccinations for his/her age.

    ...and I feel like I shouldn't have to spend more money in my palm replacement than I spent on my netbook, but I'll probably bite the bullet and get a 8GB ipod touch [sigh]

    Just to clarify, "Nova" gasoline was the last brand of leaded gasoline sold by Pemex, and it was discontinued at least 10 years ago.

    I used two Palm Zires (first a 21, then a 72) as ebook readers for the last 8 years.

    When my latest one died two weeks ago, I started looking for a replacement, only to find out that PDAs have been dead for years...

    Dammit Palm, you had a complete market cornered, why did you have to drop the ball so stupidly?
    If you had developed a decent OS (with a f**kin filesystem!) for your devices 5 years ago, you would still be relevant today...

    I used my Palm Zire 72 as a glorified ebook reader until it stopped working a month ago, so I started looking for a replacement.

    My requirements are simple:

    * .txt, .pdf and comic book format support
    * pocket-sized (the new kindle would be the upper limit)
    * more than two hours of battery life

    Anyone on slashdot have a suggestion?

    Same here, I am using the Netbook Remix interface on top of Ubuntu 8.10 on my Acer Aspire One and it works perfectly

    (caveat: I had to install a custom kernel to get all the hardware to work, but it was easy after that... The kernel is found at the Acer Aspire One users group)
