If done in the correct way. By a certified teacher. As it is law in Europe. You just can't have mommy teach you, that doesn't work here.

So where it is "normal" for Americans to be homeschooled, it is something unheard or very very very rare in Europe.

Well the difference is that in Germany you don't get hillbilly teachers trying to explain to you that the earth is just 5000 years old.

and yes, going to school is a law, you have to. You can't just say, no I don't want to. In Austria it is called "Schulpflicht".

I care if they have hyper annoying ring tones and talk on the phone. This is annoying and nobody does this.

Plus nobody will use a cell phone in the cinema or where they shouldn't use it.

That using the phone on your bicycle while you ride it is stupid, yeah, but I do that too ;(

Dunno about driving, haven't seen many use it thought.

Whole generations where not be able to call each other when they were driving. As nice it is to be able to contact someone all the time, when I am in a car, I just don't pick up the phone at all.

Same when I am in the train, or on the bus, or in a restaurant.

But that is because I am in Japan, and people still know how to behave when they get a phone call.

Although there are a lot of changes in the last years (eg JR in Tokyo area removed all smoking areas from the stations) it is still no problem to smoke in restaurants. I haven't been to a single restaurant that is non smoking only.

There are even some coffee shops appearing which are smoking only.
