Um, what's the point with the 20GB hard drive model. Aren't blue-ray disks supposed to start at 25GB, and feasably scale all the way up to 100GB each? I mean, it'd be like putting a 500MB hard drive in a computer with a CD burner.

  2. Where did they get that idea? on PS3 Launch Details Announced · · Score: 5, Interesting

Wow, Sony as ever shows their originality. I mean, a motion-sensing controller? Who in the hell would have thought of that brilliant idea? Wasn't this one of the same companies who wrote off Nintendo's idea as a gimmick? Wow, ironic the innovation that Sony comes up with. Let's hope for their sake that they didn't take too much away from Nintendo's idea... last thing they need is another company suing them over technology theft in their controllers. BTW, I wonder if Immersion could claim this Dual Shock like controller in violation of their patent too.

As much as the patent system needs to go, companies like Sony almost make you want to have it.

Nintendo is worth a lot more than $20 a share. They have more cash stockpiled than would be the value of their stock if it was only $20.

Oh, in contrast, Sony Corp (TYO:6758) is only at 5550 yen.

Try Washington State. Average teacher starting salary (which is funded by the state, not the district), is approximately $28,000. In most school districts, teachers work close to be beginning of August to the end of June. Yes, there is a month of vacation in there, but salary is generally payed year round. So yes, most teachers don't make $2500 a month BEFORE taxes get taken out. Compound that with the fact that teachers work overtime without pay (if you think a teacher's job starts when they arrive at school and ends when they leave it, you're an idiot). Not only are teachers low paid, but they're also expected to earn an additional 15 college credits every 3 years (or 150 credit hours of seminars) that they themselves pay for. Add to this the fact that there are larger class sizes, not smaller, and that there are psychos out there who want to pay teachers based on performance while taking away the tools they need...

If this was the model that Microsoft used it would be like:

Write Windows Vista, in a week, using a pencil and paper, you get paid for how well it works. BTW, bring your own pencil and paper.

With using the attachment they solve this problem. Think in most keyboard FPSs and some control schemes for console games. You use 4 keys for movement, move forward, move back, strafe left, strafe right), and the mouse (or other analog stick) to aim, shoot. The attachment has an analog stick to move you your four directions, you aim with the remote part, you shoot with the remote part, and likely duck or jump with the extra buttons on the attachment or the buttons on top of the remote.

If they're smart and do it anything like PC games, you can choose the sensitivity. If you want to have to swing around a lot to force turning, then you can. If you want just a quick flick of the wrist to turn 180, then you probably can do that too. As close as this is to a mouse, it's still gonna create such a new style of doing it that people who already own everyone at games like Halo or Half Life or Battlefield won't be able to do it from the bat, everyone will start on a level playing field once more

Remember before this generation came out. Sony and microsoft were blatantly advertising how many polygons their consoles could put out. Sony said what, like 70 million+ or somewhere in there?

Nintendo's response was that we can do 12 million, in a real gameplay situation.

Ironically, for many games, those 12 million sure do look better then those theoretical 70 million.

Nintendo also severely underestimated the usuable distance for the Wavebird if you'll recall.

Something tells me not to trust this fully. MS may say 15 times more powerful, Sony may say 35 times more powerful, but until we get some developers saying something (or some real specs), that 3 times more powerful might not be as low as it seems...

N64 Rumble Pack was outside of the controller, so doesn't count... cell phones and pagers don't count (Though if N-Gage vibrates to games, then it might).

Feasably, somebody could patent a home video game console with a built in LCD screen and it wouldn't infringe on any past patents for Gameboy/PSP like technology.

Besides, Immersion tried to get Sony to license it, Sony refused, Sony got bitten.

Notice, they can still sell the console, but they do have to start saving up a royalty for every console sold from now on. Sure, they can delay this 10 years, but if they lose, they'd prolly have to pay interest from the start of the case, the original judgement, and licensing fees for the next 10 years on every PS2 sold.
