Well, of all the reading I have done in the past, all of the observations that I had done by visiting many churches(even other religions)... I made my mind up that I don't need the world explained to me. I feel what I feel. If there is an all powerful being, then he can damn me even if I do what I'm "told". I am alive. I will die. When I do, my body will be compost(if the state lets my family do so...side note, no government can tell me what I can or cannot do with my body damnit!). I won't care.
On a totally different subject than the bible, what happens to those who lived before the man commonly refered to as Jesus? What about those who have never heard of the fellow? What about babies? What about those who do not worship Jesus, but worship the same deity? Are they denied, or do they default to heavenly status? Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just have never been given an answer that didn't require me to leave my sensabilities at the door.

I do appreciate the reply. I enjoy reading/hearing other's beliefs. I don't want to sound like a total jerk, but why, if #2 is true doesn't the almighty just zap a bible right down into my lap? Why is it they cost humans various capital to make/distribute? Why aren't there newer texts? Did the existence of man just sort of slip his mind and he decided that he didn't have to communicate anymore(don't tell me that praying is communicating, coming from a(once) blind faith guy... I've never heard back). I very much doubt #3/#4, I need proof. Anyway, thanks for the discussion... don't be afraid to continue!

If you believe every word of the bible is literally true, then how can you believe that every word of the Bible is true? Not to sound too redundant, but if Man is flawed, how could he have penned the bible? Asside from that, how can you account for the losses in translations? You do know that things have been added/omitted over time, right? So does that make the bible non-infaliable?
Again, I'm not trying to troll, nor am I trying to start a flame war, I m a skeptic who once upon a time was a sheepish fellow who believed everything he was told. I just want to hear it from some intelligent persons.

  4. Re:a non-regulatory state? on Cradle to Cradle · · Score: 2

Excellent points, all. The main situation in government which allows corporations to run their fellow man over is the "bubba system". It is quite common in the area I live in(SE Georga, USA). The situation arises when you have an elected official who thinks he is helping out his country by helping out his friends who just so happen to run a large company. Eventually, it turns into a mutual "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" scenario. They can have all the good intentions they want, but they will succumb to the corruption and greed that persist in our government today. Once corporations were considered individuals with the same 'rights' as any one of us(minus voting... they get to do it with the spectacular spending power they have). Oh, and let's not forget about the career politicians! I conceed that corporate bodies use the government to exercise physical force upon those who do not share their views, do their work, etc. An excellent example would be the Ludlow Massacre, brought on by Rockafeller and executed by the US National Guard. I cannot even begin to express my utter disdain of that man, nor his cronies. They, along with good ol FDR are the reason that we as citizens have come to rely on the corrupt corporate government that we have today. We are only a few steps short of socialism with a capitalist spin(read not communist, for those who don't know the difference... look it up). The good of mankind is in the eye of the richest, I cannot deny that. However, if you divorce the state from the business altogether, then you won't see as much of this behemoth collusion. Will it happen... someday. I don't plan on seeing it anytime soon though. Not with heads of oil in power. Not with laws and treaties being used to set the path for global corporations. I do agree with one poster that LLCs must be done away with. It's just another kickback from the early days the Welfare State. I would like to thank those of you who have participated in this discussion, I enjoy reading other's opinions...and yes, my views are just that. Simple speculation.

Capitolism has nothing to do with a powerful state. You sir, have no idea of what you speak. It is quite the opposite. Capitolism is an economic term, not a political term. What you are talking about is political means, tyrrany, in a capitolist world. You seem to be so caught up in your socialist/utopian fervor, you can't even distinguish the difference between political and economic terminology. I reply, as I shall not stand down to ignorance. Get educated, or get out of the gene pool. If I were like minded as you, I would say that phrase should be law. Instead, I wish to let nature exclude the ignorant.

  6. Re:Litter is advocated? on Cradle to Cradle · · Score: 2

The way we have to view the whole situation is this: don't touch anything. If you regulate the life out of the various industries, then you will kill the economy, and we'll end up in a world somewhat like that which existed before the Industrial Revolution. If you don't touch anything, either the world will be destroyed, thinking will evolve toward a more gentile nature, or life on Earth will evolve. I can't speak for everyone, but I would much rather face the possibilities that would come of a non-regulatory state, than having the tyranny of an over-regulatory government be pushed down my throat. I believe the saying goes: "Give me Liberty, or give me Death!".

Not exactly correct. In Jedi, Luke asks Leia if she remembers her mother, to which she replies that she only remembers images, that she was very sad. If anything, they would slap some cheezy, editorially non-matching flashback to her childhood visions of her mother. Either way, it would be foolish to think that anyone but possibly Lucas's kids would get any entertainment from it.

I don't know if you noticed, but over the past year, Linux distros have started to get more and more expensive(box sets... not downloads). I haven't noticed many people here stating that just because the GNU GPL hasn't been truly tested in court means it is invalid. Are you one of those kids whose parents didn't give them a good, hard spanking with a thick leather belt when you did something you were told not to do? We, as Americans, have agreed to live here and by the rules of the elected government. That includes businesses. As my father once put it "As long as you live under my roof, you will live by my rules." Well, how about instead of worrying about the other kids who get to play in the street, why not truly punish the kid who did, even after being caught and being told numerous times not to. Spank them, send them to their room, don't let them go out and play with their friends, don't let them play video games. Make them do homework. Make them reflect. Make them a responsible citizen and member of our family. That is why we have a judicial system.

I doubt that Kevin Smith minds when someone quotes his movie in an appropriate situation(comical). I also doubt that Lucas would mind if I made a tape of some kids playing with sticks and acting out jedi fight scenes, submit it to a film festival, and made money from it... would he?

I'm just going to take it, and either get several phone lines/isp accounts and MP it or I'm just going to stick with the crappy 26.4 connection I'm getting now. Don't bother to say anything about satellite, it sucks... bad.
