I think you're lying to yourself if you honestly believe that you're not going to "wing it" with your childe when he grows up. I'm willing to bet, but not put all my chips on, that you had a good relationship with your parents.
My parents allowed me every freedom they could offer, but if I abused any of them without coming straight out and telling them what was going on, I'd never see it again. They trusted that I was realy going to my friends' houses. They trusted me to tell the truth about what I was doing, and were ready to make me back it up if they had reason to be suspicious. My parents didn't have a problem with me staying at a friend's place on a school night because they required to have their phone number and talk with their parents, at their leisure, which they did. It also required that I was at school, on time, the next day. Which they would verify if they had reason to doubt. So my mom or dad was at least familiar with where I was at all times.
With the advent of cheap cellular phones and cheap GPS, I'm not sure how I'll handle parenting my kids, but I certainly don't want my kids to feel they're being teathered, to me. But I want them to know I am paying attention.
First: Linux? It runs off of WMA 10. Second: Great job on doubling the storage and making it expandable, while keeping at the same price point. Third: My real question. How big is it? I looked all over the San Disk site, but to no avail for dimensions. I have an iPod Nano because it's small and durable. And is shaped in a way that I feel comfortable with it in my pocket.
This thing will definately compete with the Nano if it's about the same size, but even at twice the size or thickness, and people may not see the appeal.
Oh, I totally agree that Halo 1 was better. Certain weapons had the advantage in certain terrains. Which was great. In Halo 2 they seemed to over optimize every weapon and really diminished their abilities. I don't agree about the graphics, though. I'd say they're on par. They're just different styles. 2 was just shinier, which got annoying quick.
We were doing some 8 on 8 CTF on the snow stage in Halo 2 (don't know what it's called, but it's got the two castles. After half an hour and numerous failed attempts to make any points, we just gave up. It was boring. Very boring.
1.Get oversheild 2.Get Active Camo 3.Get Flag 4.Get Fragged Step four has many, many varieties. Occationaly you'll have a 'diversion' in which case everyone just waits for a floating flag half way down. Or a flag riding on a warthog meeting with rockets.
Very very good point. I'm getting sick of hearing about average geeks who are afraid of waving their hands around. If waving your hand about for 45 minutes gets you tired and sweaty, then get off the couch and start exercising! That's just pathetic. Hell, I'd encourage people to start weighting their remotes and build up some shoulder and forarm strength.
Also, good point about Zelda. It's not all hack-n-slash. But that definately is a fun aspect. I can't wait to start knocking moblins or whatever off those boars. Wild arm flailing in the living room! People will think you're watching football/soccor/rugby.
Best way to play Bushido Blade is to get a couple of kendo sticks and go at it with your opponent. It'd be great if the Wii let you battle someone across the counrty, though I doubt the response time would be great without a very low ping.
Think of it. You battle your brother in law for who gets to/has to host Thanksgiving that year. The one who wins, is the one who kept his head! Just don't let Jack Thompson get ahold of this.
Wal-Mart has always had this stance. I doubt Jack has anything to do with it. I still remember back when Mortal Kombat came out and they didn't carry the Genesis version because there was blood in it. But they had the SNES version becuase it was colored gray (sweat).
I've posted part of this a few times, but they don't "train" them to be idiots. A buddy of mine was a '3rd key' at a Gamestop (IE just under manager or something). They merely condition them. The managers are pressured by corporate to keep sales up, and generally couldn't give a crap about what they sell to who as long as they look good. I don't know if my friend can confirm it, but they do get a lot of bonuses (read 'kickbacks') when their stores do well. And corporate would often offer bonus stuff for stores that pushed x copies of [insert new game here].
The guy would tell parents that GTA wasn't suitable for kids, and the manager would tell him to go help someone else while he tried to sell a game to mom. Happened a lot and got my friend in heaps of trouble because he'd tell the parents flat out what was in the game. Thus, stopping parents who can't read/understand the ESRB notices on games like Manhunt from puchasing it for thier six year olds.
I've seen it in almost every Gamestop or EB Games I've ever stopped in and I make it a point to try to educate parents with screaming kids about games they pick up, because the managers don't care. I've met a lot of parents who weren't well informed about the ESRB ratings and were VERY thankful for a small explenation. Most of them just don't notice because it looks like another part of the box.
Well, if you recall this poll,/. thought Sony would be ahead back in March. But that was before the price announcement. And most people assumed that the PS3 would be priced similar to the 360, and that the Rev would be 200 anyway, but the new controller hadn't been unvieled either. So, perhaps it may be time for a new poll.
Super Smash Bros will use the classic controller, as I'm sure other games will. The man behind the series realized motion sensitive gaming doesnt make this particular game more fun, only adds a needless gimic.
I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is that if I can use the Wii-mote in SSB, then I dang well want to. What could be more fun than actaully punching your buddy on the couch next to you?! All I know is I can't wait to beat the tar out of Wario with EVERY other character. Because I hate Wario. I used to just love beating on Kirby and Jigglypuff... because it reminded me of those punching ballons I had as a kid. But I always plain hated Wario.
Kidding aside. I don't think Smash Bros would work well with the remote anyway. And it's not like the game has that complex of a control scheme, so they could probably get away with using the Wii-mote, just not the motion/pointer capabilities.
I typically listen to KTIS, a Christian radio station. Just on last Friday I heard an advertisement for the annual, big Christmas concert that they always hype. Then they played one of the songs. I almost marched down there to steal any evidence of Christmas only to return it some time in October...
But for now I'll just resort to my iPod for sanity.
Good Lord, I've been waiting to hear some one else say that. I heard so much about how great Fable was going to be, and how open-ended it was. Let's think about this for a minute. There was two possible endings. How is that open-ended?! There were two main things that could happen in that game. Your charecter would be good/evil depending on your decisions, and people would react to those situations... rather simply. As in, "Oh, yay, the [insert title] is here!" or "Please, God help us the [incert title] is here". That's all. And it pissed me off. Sure, there were small encouragements along the way, like those demon doors, but all in all, it was not that great of a game. And I too am getting weary of Molyneux's visionary games.
The multiple T1 internet connection that keeps students and faculty plugged in to the net was lost for over four hours, says an OSU student. Apparently after half an hour without it caused mass hysteria. People fled to the "out of doors" in droves, and hospitals are reporting epidemic level cases of sunburn. Back to you Burnie...
Well, right. But now he doesn't realy need a plane so much. Seeing that he can frickin' warp across space pretty well instantly. Granted, he'll need some way to get around once he's there...
Well, if a guy tries to get on board with a few ounces of bleach, some tinfoil, and a mullet. Things are going to turn sour quick. For the terrorists, that is. We all know guys with mullets are never bad guys.
What I'd really like to see is player customizations. There would have to be a cap on these things, but it would make some sense. Currently, we're making a pair of gloves that gives +16 Agility and +3 Stength with x armour. But what if we could just add a few more things in there like a couple of Cores of Earth for some nature damage to boot, that would be nice. Now, that's what it seems like the Burning Crusade is doing with their slotted weapons, and gemcrafting skills. But I wonder if that won't be enough.
Maybe I missed, it, but I can't read it at work as almost all gaming sites are blocked, but are current weapons going to have gem slots?
I have a buddy who runs a lot of photoshop and 3D rendering apps and he goes through the 4GB of ram in his Mac (G5, I think) pretty quick. It's kind of funny to see him get angry about it when he reaches the plateu and his computer starts squirming under the bit of pressure. Currently, he's drooling over the Mac Pro's just for the speed. I'm sure he's waiting for 64 bit support just for RAM support alone, but won't be able to afford it for some time to come.
Odds are if it's gotten this bad, you've been pretty absent as a parent. And I'm assuming the parent in this case is paying the bills, and it's pretty easy to go online or call WoW and get the password as the card holder, then put on the restrictions. Idealy, you wouldn't be neglecting your kids so much that they get this way, but who knows.
Right, but by the time it takes you to care, you'll probably have had to reset it twice to get your RAM back! (God I hated 98 when I was using it, XP is far from perfect, but it manages RAM a lot better)
I was there with you, man. Got in daily fights up until high school. The reigns were a little tighter there and there was ALWAYS someone watching, but I still remember people trying to start stuff with me. Didn't have many friends, just sat in my black hole until my sophomore year. Would I have done something crazy like those two? Yeah, I was well on my way down that path. I played video games to pass the time, was overweight (not anymore), and so shelled up by ridicule, I could have easiy snapped... but, never being presented with the opportunity or the means, it never occured to me.
In all honesty, I was saved at the end of my sophomore year and it made every bit of difference. Things weren't just all of a sudden better. It took years, but the change started. The harassment never ended. I graduated in 99, so I didn't have to deal with the post-columbine changes that were happening in my school. I feel for you and everyone who can tell a story like this with all of my heart. And I'm glad that some good can come from these tragedies.

A - Shit pants
B - Call nurse
After all, Duke's gonna be a good 90+ years old when it finally comes out.
Me, thanks.

I have mod points, but I couldn't find where I could moderate:
-i Holy confusing logic, Batman/WTF??!!
I see where you're going, but "Iron Baking" reminds me waaay too much of my grandmother's biscuits and gravy.

Except, perhaps, Bob Dole and Al Gore. I think someone finally told them.
