"This legislation got to the House floor faster than a consumer can hang up on a telemarketer at dinnertime"
Even as I post this comment, my phone is ringing yet again.
Caller ID says: Unavailable
Fifth telemarketing call today, and it's not even 3PM. In the last few months, the calls have gotten much more frequent. They call from 9:30 AM until 9:30 PM, making at least 10 calls daily. I guess it's a last ditch effort before the DNC list goes into effect.
They would prefer Windows, a platform they consider 'open' in that it is compatible with their internal corporate networks.
Or they could migrate their corporate network to a truly open system. Unfortunate that corporations (even banks!) are willing to entrust their business to such unreliable software, all in the name of familiarity.
Hah! I'd forgotten about "Dr" Laura. All the Chicago area stations stopped carrying her show several years ago after numerous complaints. Apparently her schlock sells better in more conservative, rural areas.
The game store is supposed to check ID for MA-rated games. I think the question should be, "how did these kids come into posession of this game in the first place?"
These protocol changes are nothing more than a speedbump. Last time it took all of what, two days to restore connectivity? In the long run, this is probably good for the technology. Having developers constantly looking at code is a surefire way of improving it!
5) Rebuilding their software and protocols every year to deter third party clients.
Personally, I wouldn't mind paying for instance $10/yr to use their service, but with my client of choice. No ads, just pure old fashioned cash for services.
In related news, the American Art Foundry(*) has announced an open art contest. Artists are free to use whatever medium they choose, as long as it's oil on canvas.
According to research at an English university, the majority of normal people who buy PCs without Windows install copies of Windows borrowed from friends.
So that gives them some kind of right to maintain their illegial monopoly? Please. All that says to me, is that Microsoft would do well to make registration mandatory for all copies of Windows, no exceptions.
I don't agree, with this warning those of us running ssh services are informed about the vunerability. Better to have this knowledge and disable ssh than to get hacked and find out about it later..
I always get a good chuckle at those dolts driving around, with the big honking air foil on the back of their car, that looks like it was knocked together in somebody's garage in all of 10 minutes. But I've seen far too many cars with this accessory for them to be custom. Must be a shop somewhere that sells these ugly mothers.

At a friend's suggestion, I named Cloud 'Psycho'. It was pretty funny to see the dialog, "Nice to meet you x, I'm Psycho!"..
It's too bad serial console support on PC's sucks so severely though.
Even when using Linux, BSD, ect? Is this a hardware issue?
Even if you have a RS-232 port on the motherboard, there's no way to unstick a wedged machine
I currently have an old Commodore hooked to my (x86) Linux box over RS232 as a terminal, so I'll be sure to try that if it ever locks up.
Not to mention Notepad's file size limit, at least in older versions. If you want a good text editor for Windows, I'd recommend Textpad.
I just upgraded to an Athlon XP 2600+, and with this announcement surely the XP line is going to see a major price cut soon..
Circa 1997 one of my cable channels displayed the Amiga Workbench overnight. That was kinda neat, though I imagine they upgraded by now.
Obvously their reputation would be at steak.
This sentence is making me hungry!

* Not a real organization
New sign of the beast: \\\
It is not illegal for Microsoft to have a monopoly.
You're right; Instead of, "maintain their illegial monopoly" I should have written, "illegialy maintain their monopoly".
Lindows are a major pain in the ass for the boys from Redmond
I wonder what Microsoft thinks of these guys?

Ohh, does it have Vesa local bus?
I think you're missing the point.. why should a non-elected entity like the FCC have lawmaking powers?
Ultima IV emulator
Supposedly, the Zaurus can also run Exult, which is an open source engine for Ultima 7. You just need the data files from the original game.

Argh! VB Flsahbcak!!
Microsoft has never made money on its development tools
That would surprise me, have you seen the (retail) price of Visual Studio lately?
I meta-mod ALL negative mods as Unfair.
Even the Goat.se links?
