Why don't all the geeks in a collective act of corporate law disobediance just start using files with the names of copyrighted music/movies/literature/software and force the record and movie labels to waste tons of their financial resources sending out worthless legal letters?
Two reasons. First, the letters are sent out automatically to people who are flagged during their internet robots' scans across the internet. There isn't a guy typing these up and spending time looking for warez. Secondly, I like to know what my files are, and how I keep track of that is with understandable file names. So it makes no point to start labeling all my files "starcraft.zip".
Hey, maybe he WAS running it on Windows! In that case, I respect his perseverance. I also will have to hand it to Microsoft. They try to make a Mac program, and accidentally get it to work (sort of) on Windows! All hail Overlord Gates!
Good point. If they start losing money with subscribers, all they need to do to stay profitable is raise the rates that they charge the cellular providers to use the infrastructure. Maybe the cellular companies can even subsidize the phone company's promises to get me DSL in this decade! Or modem service that is better than 28.8 kbps!
You're an idiot... he never said he condoned file sharing. He never condoned sharing mp3s. He merely said he didn't like to see people getting their hard drives confiscated. Take a few more English classes. I recommend an English comprehension class and a spelling/grammar/syntax class.
The whole state of Vermont has outlawed billboards. It is really nice to not see them all over the place. Instead of billboards, we have these little black signs that businesses can put up near their offices that help drivers figure out where they're located. Much easier on the eyes.
PLAY CONTRA MORE! Seriously, it's one of the best games ever. Classic performances by Blue Guy and Red Guy. And the ending? Man, I won't blow it for you, but suffice it to say you can consider yourself a hero. Man?! What is with you? Get with the times!
Just remember, the things you own end up owning you. Why not attribute your quote, this is from Fight Club. God, I hate people who get their philosophies from movies. Can't you at least come up with another way of phrasing the idea, rather than ripping it off wholesale?

Any ideas on how to make their contract unenforcable? I'm thinking pseudonym + PO Box personally.
That's fraud, they could come after you. What you do is have a neighborhood kid sign the contract. People under 18 can't be parties in a legal agreement. That way, if they don't check up on it, it's their fault for getting into a business deal with a minor. However, it's still really underhanded and I don't recommend it as AOL's got a crack legal team that you might find yourself dealing with.
That's because you Mass-hole drivers drive like maniacs! The state needed to set a rate or nobody in MA could afford insurance! - Your friendly Vermont neighbor:)
I disagree. I'm 25 and have had Progressive since I was in college. Had State Farm before that, Progressive gave me a better rate for my Toyota Tercel. I've had a Ford Explorer and a VW Jetta since then, and I've been in two accidents, both of which were deemed to be not my fault, meaning that the other person's insurance covered it. I have yet to make a claim on my insurance. I called Geico once, since they said in their commercials that safe drivers can get a discount. Well, their rate per quarter equaled what my yearly rate was! I couldn't believe it, I told the salesman that, and he said, "Well, I don't blame you for not taking it." Progressive's been nothing but great for me. Quick service, and they go to bat for you in getting the at-fault party to pay up.
I've got a Linksys WRT54G router and a Panasonic 2.4GHz phone. Haven't had any problems yet, and they're both in the same room. In fact, as I type this, my laptop's directly in between the two. I think if you make sure not to use both devices on the same channel, you should be all set.
Hey, thanks for writing back, that cleared a lot up. It also gave me an interesting look at what pro writers do. Kind of like those interesting segments on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood where he'd show the viewers the inside of a rollerskate factory or whatever.
I have a question for you, and I hope you answer. What kind of typing do you do for your job? Is it long-form writing mainly, or stuff like commands, config files, etc.? Just wondering, because people say I type fast, but I can only get 50-60 WPM on average. I do more commands style typing. I can't imagine doubling that speed... I don't think my fingers move that fast.
BTW, do you play guitar? Because I wonder how speed typing translates to fast guitar playing.:)
Heh, I get a headache reading that second example! I agree though, and the sad thing is, I find myself slipping in decent English syntax. My current job doesn't require me to write in a manner that is presentable to our customers, plus there's a healthy amount of Jabber. My writing lately's consisted of posting to Slashdot and that. Ugly. But I give it a good shot, which is better than most of what I see on/. and work.
Hear, hear. My first game, as far as I can remember, was either Asteroids at the airport my dad worked at, or PacMan at Pizza Hut. And of course there was Chuck E. Cheese.
You're right, Novell's tech support rocks. I learned half of what I know about Novell's products from their support staff and free literature, and an additional quarter from their knowledge base. If you need something done, you'll be able to figure it out. All of their manuals are on-line, and between those, their really nice KB, and the support groups, you'll get the answer you need.
Funny you should mention burning books. My house burned down once, and we were amazed at how well the photo albums and books survived. Books are surprisingly resilient to fire. I remember back in high school, when school got out, trying to burn this science book that I was forced to buy, since I lost and then found mine. That thing was hard as hell to burn, it never really did get that burned. The outside of the pages burned, but the inside was fine. You could easily learn things if you wanted to.
Audible seems like a good idea for me, being a guy who likes to read but has kind of fell out of it lately. Are there any sample books? (I'll comb the site after I write this reply)
For FTP, I use Fugu for SFTPing, and for regular old ftp, I use ncftp, a command-line ftp program that you can get with Fink.

That's my favorite line of the song. Thanks for reminding me of it.

It still emulates Windows. Hence, it's an emulator, no matter if the creators like to think it's not.

That is exactly what i was going to say. Abiword rocks for word processing!
Yeah, that was his joke. Way to go.
