  1. Re:I'll wait for the Turbo Edition on Final Fantasy XIII-2 Announced · · Score: 1

I wonder what happened there - was it a change in artistic team? A side effect of the Enix merger? A side effect of trying to cater to both the PS and 360 crowds?

I think it's just a subgenre of games that ceased evolving after the mid 1990s.

  7. Re:Come on Sony! on Sony Files Lawsuit Against PS3 Hacker GeoHot · · Score: 1

Sony don't need to win anything from this suit, they just need to drag GeoHot through a very expensive lawsuit hell as a message "You better have a lot of money before messing with us!" to other future possible hackers.

This is the same tactic with the RIAA against filesharers (but there are simply too many to fight against), and the same tactic Adobe tried against Skylarov (sorry, maybe mispelled), and the same tactic the US govt is using against Assange. No different from any school bully, you mess with him, you got beaten by whatever means available.

This is as futile as trying to scrub the Internet, given the ease of anonymously releasing something as short as an encryption key.

While the greek word philosophia literally means "friend of wisdom", the common-day philosopher tends to stare at their naval and wonder if they even exist more than they use anything which might resemble wisdom.

Meanwhile, the engineer is creating ways to save lives, feed millions, and travel to Mars.

I - personally - find it frustrating that we listen to the naval-staring philosopher, and forget what wisdom is in the same moment.

Not all philosophers are that paralyzed, and I think that it is a useful profession. It's just that supply vastly exceeds demand.

  10. Re:If you can't handle the n-word... on The Continued Censorship of Huckleberry Finn · · Score: 1

Huck Finn is taught around 8th grade, not preschool. A thirteen or fourteen year old ought to be able to pretty well understand the topics of slavery, racism, and their history in America.

Which is exactly why it doesn't need to be censored. There is no particular reason to be giving to the book to children too young to be exposed to the worn "nigger" in a historical context.

  11. Re:If you can't handle the n-word... on The Continued Censorship of Huckleberry Finn · · Score: -1, Troll

Chances are, if children are kept in bubbles and keep being told that 'bad' words are 'bad' because they are 'bad', they will never be able to handle any 'bad' words. I mean, really, if we just acknowledged that they were just strings of letters with meanings like any other word, this wouldn't even be a problem.

Do you wake your four year old son up every morning and say "Good fucking morning, son. Would you like some fucking breakfast? Your mom is going to take you to fucking preschool."

Of course you don't. Your child will have no idea what the word means, except that when he uses it around other people, he gets a reaction and what four year old doesn't want attention?

Same thing with this. The kid will not understand why, only that when he calls people "nigger" he gets all sorts of attention.

  12. Re:If you can't handle the n-word... on The Continued Censorship of Huckleberry Finn · · Score: 2

Says the guy who can't write nigger.

Perhaps I should log out and type it?

I was trying to put attention on the book. A child who can't contextualize Huck's upbringing and the society he travels through will have no hope of appreciating how Huck and Jim relate. And if a child can't process that, then you really shouldn't be throwing words or ugliness at him until he can.

  13. If you can't handle the n-word... on The Continued Censorship of Huckleberry Finn · · Score: 4, Insightful

If you are too young to maturely handle the n-word, then you are too young to handle the implications of the story anyway.

    2) Music that is only written and sold in the album format

I'm glad it was #1. Besides, I still download entire albums and listen to the tracks consecutively all the time.

I've re-watched the original Tron on occasion over the years, and just recently last week in preparation for the new movie (which I haven't seen yet, because every theatre in my city has it in headache-vision only, but that's another rant).

Maybe it's just me, but I find it holding up less and less as time goes on. The first part of the movie is cut very poorly and frequently jumps around for no real reason. Once Flynn is in the Tron world, the movie ever-so-slowly gets rather tiresome and boring.

I agree. Visually, Tron holds up very well, but the acting, dialog, and plot are poor. Disney probably made a wise choice to pull the original before the sequel was released in theaters.
