The "Internet" has a hell of a lot more data than what the article stated. I don't know about you, the last time I checked, the Internet is a collective of Web Pages, Usenet, IRC, Sharing Networks, etc.
Hell, DC++ (Direct Connect Client/Server) has had more than 500 terrabytes of shared data in several of my favorite hubs.
All Mr. Genovese needed to do was state on the website that the fee was for the bandwidth/donation. Blatantly asking for money for something that is pirated is never a good idea. Especially with a large conglomerate like Microsoft.

Aside from breaking into network shares, I do not see a major threat really -- wouldn't want any bad hackers to have access to the shared Music drive.... would we?
All financial transactions done over the Internet use some form of data encryption, so someone sniffing in on the network would just get a bunch of garbage.

Total paid: 333.00 very reasonable IMO.
Another company offering an additional means of playing back music on an iPod should increase the VALUE of the iPod device, if nothing else.

Now, who does this interoperability "improvement" benefit? Windows users of course. iTunes and iPods both work well with Windows. Real is simply undercutting the iTunes song prices. I really see nothing inherently wrong with offering a lower price, it benefits the consumer.
In my opinion, why not buy some albums you wouldn't ordinarily buy for 4.99? I am sure the whole reverse-engineering of DRM will be taken to court. May as well benefit from the lower prices while you can. I am sure Real's Rhapsody/Jukebox files sound just as good on your iPod at half the price.

Modifying a pre-existing "worm".... big deal. It only affects a certain operating system -- the holes exploited were very well known, the creator himself did not intrude into anyone's system, the worm did. I say the government should pay 60,000.00+ (the cost of housing an inmate for 3 years) for antivirus/worm software for citizens. Big businesses should be PATCHED already, that's what the IT department is for!!
