OT, but it reminds me of something I heard before and that's "If you're not offended atleast atleast once a month, then your society is not free" or something like that.
In addition to books, I regularly get DVDs from my library. These are generally movies I've been meaning to see but haven't gotten around to it. So if there's a movie that pops into mind that might look good, I go the library's website and if they don't have it in, I can place a hold and I'll get an email when it arrives. I can wait a few days for a movie that I've been wanting to see, but isn't on the top of my list. Plus, if I don't like the movie, I don't feel bad about getting it because I didn't pay money for crap.
That reminds me of a conversation my Calculus professor (a true geek who constantly makes references to Star Wars, Star Trek and the ocassional BTTF) had with one the students during class.
Student: I got to see Episode 1 in HD the other night. Professor: That's cool. Did it still suck?
iWorks sounds too much like iWork, their current office like project, Though, it really needs a spreadsheet before it could really compete with MS Office.
Actually, the Sega CD was capable of doing 128 colors for games and 256 for FMV.

I think the reason Nintendo is including 512MB of flash ROM is for downloading NES/SNES/N64 games. Granted if you download a lot of those game (especially N64), you'll run out pretty quickly. I am kind of suprised that they won't be including a hard drive for such a purpose. Maybe it's a supply issue. I've heard of Microsoft procuring the right size hard drives for the XBox.
That's what I love about OS X. The folders that are visible to the user maked things super easy to naviage. (most of the more unix-y things like/etc and/bin are hidden from Finder). There are a total of four folders in / that are visible, and those are Users, System, Applications, and Library. It just seems so clear and well thought out to me. Applications is much clearer than/bin (and I'm not even going to mention other bin folders, which only server to further confuse new users).
While I have no problem with studios taking their time and shipping games when their done, Ghost has been plauged with problems and has been transferred to a new developer, which makes the wait even longer.
I have one question. Do you realize that Slashdot is not some collective mind that thinks the exact same way? Sure there a lot of people that have similar attitudes around here, such as being behind OSS and being pro Linux but that's not everybody here has the same thoughts or beliefs.
I just can't believe I'm actually excited about a Sony game machine for once.
I'm pretty excited about the PS3 too, then again, I've also owned the previous Playstations. I worry about the controller though. I looked like the Boomerang 3rd party controller for the PS1. I wouldn't have minded them redesigning the controller if it was something similar to the Xbox or Gamecube controllers where the analog stick is the the default one. It seems with the dual shock, my thumb naturally gravitates to the digital pad.
The Xbox 360 will also have to compete with people's willingness to wait for the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution.
This is, imo, one of the biggest reasons why the Dreamcast failed, the hype surrounding the PS2. If the XBox 360 succumbs to somethign similar or not will probably be seen next year.
That's kind of misleading. PD0 is being made by the same company that made the orginal Perfect Dark and Golden Eye. However, the actual development team that made the game has since left Rare and most of them wound up at Free Radical.

OpenGL only handles graphics, while DirectX is an API suite which handles many things, including graphincs, input, sound, and network code.

Actually, the 6GB iPod mini is $250, while the 4GB model is $200. See it for yourself

Fink Commander is a pretty decent GUI frontend for Fink.
I,Robot was a true 3D arcade game that came out in 1983, so it predates Descent by a decent margin.

Nintendo's deal is now, RS came out for the X-Box and PS2 later
None of the Rouge Squadron games game out for Xbox nor PS2.
You mean like they do on their gigabit ethernet ports?
:-P anyway)

Well, at least the porno "Jedi XXX" would have more plot and better dialog than the action movie "Jedi Triple X"

xbox is powerpc, a well known arcitechture, the PS3 is cell, and heavily vectorized, an unknown architecture.
I was under the impression that all three of the next gen consoles are going to using CPUs that are either PPC or derived from the PPC.

What's with the XBOX black becoming iPod white?
If the XBox starts take on the color of the iPod then that means that it's goinng to be killed off and replaced with cell phones!
It is a bit odd that a station for music is showing a debut for a video game console, while a video game station isn't,
MTV has music now?!
I don't have any music CDs. I have a bunch of a uncompressed PCM waves on disc.
Apart from what's already been mentioned, you could play against PC users on the DC and vice versa on Quake 3 you used the patch on the PC version.
