i always seem to compare the open source movement, to the independent music scene..
a lot of the times, artists promote their band, or work, by giving it away for free. what better way to get your name out there, than to just give everyone a taste of what you got goin on..
one way or another, the artist, still fulfills their goal, gets recognized for it, and manages to make a buck or two in the process, even though they don't hit major MTV rockstardom.
independent musicians in particular, aren't what you would call mainstream artists.. neither is anything open source.. its nothing compared to an operating system in which 90% of computer users, use...
same goes for music.. that 10% of elitests, usually have some pretty damn good taste.. wether its in music, or choice of OS..
eventually, after years of hardwork, striving to accomplish your passion, it always happens.. you fulfill it.. you end up, or even die, being happy.. so money, shmoney.. the open source movement was created for a morally good reason.. and it will succeed wether the programmers and companies that donate their time make money or not.
its good and bad i guess.. what about things like the Mandrake Control Center which has a nice "menu update system"..
are they basically saying that no operating system is allowed to have a type of easy updating system??
its seems like a necessity considering there are many programs, operating systems, and distributions of linux, that use this type of online update method..
I'm afraid that I'm going to have to agree with pretty much everyone on this one..
I think its absolutely awesome that the Lindows guys get the money.. if its one thing that most linux software companies don't have lots of, its money..
It has me really excited to see what new developments come from Ex-Lindows.. its yet another stepping stone for linux..
It definitely makes me wonder if MS would get pissed again if another company just as popular started something with the _indows suffix.. i think just for novelty purposes, mine will be, Tcl/Tkindows
it does look cool.. but why fvwm out of alll the x-mans or (x-men) ?? crap!!
still looks a little choppy for my tastes.. but the concept is cool.. something different on the desktop for a change.. i like the screen shot of the one that simulates the slight rotation of the windows.. i wonder how a person could get used to that..
if they really wanna be cool, they should make their x-man require 3D Glasses for the true effect.. mmm.. 3d glasses...
i used R4 when it first came out, then eventually went to BeOS 5 Max Edition.. it was pretty fun I guess.. it was nice to have on a seperate partition.. and when max edition was first released, it had one of those boot executables that you could just click on or run from your current OS, then it would auto-reboot into BeOS.. kinda nifty if you just feel like fuckin around, and experimenting with some different things, and a different look.. every once and a while i just like to SEE something a little different on my GUI..
personally, i'll use any Free OS as long as I can use AIM, Email, WWW, IRC, and download music and tv episodes of course;)
honestly, beos is quite perfect for the basic essentials.. and definitely isn't hard to setup.. I'm really looking forward to checking out the release of OpenBeos.. should be interesting.. hopefully they will get that shit working soon so all the developers wont give up..
I'm so freakin tired of seeing that 10 year old start menu.. its fuckin ridiculous..
it looks like hell.. we need a new type of GUI..
i dont really understand why everyone must copy of MS's idea of the start bar.. if we really want linus to prevail, then there needs to be an appealing GUI.. something pretty.. something easy.. and something thats not a start fucking menu.. GET IT OFF ME!!!
it might seem like a far reach, but there are definitely jobs out there that are less stressful..
but there will most likely be atleast one point in time when your job becomes stressful.. but never forget that the stress will come to a slow-down when you find ways to make things more efficient.. suck it up! you can get through it..
yea.. its cool that they are letting these systems go for so cheap.. but i do agree that their distro of linux is not very good..
replacing it with a more customized distro would be a big help for people that are reselling the machine to others i need.. the price is right.. and atleast more and more of the general public is now becoming aware of the name, "Linux" which is the most important part of first stage promotion..
at this point in time, i'm no longer doubting anybody.. becuz usually when ya do, it ends up happening anyway, and you end up looking like an ass.. so we'll see what happens
flashMX on linux?! are you crazy?! HELL YES!! that sounds perfect if you ask me.. dealing with emulators is no fun at all.. its great that a large software company is developing for linux.. it will definitely influence many other larger companies that are willing to develop all sorts of interesting, new, and better software to the linux desktop..
this type of cloning seems like such a great idea.. it seems like the bush administration in particular, really tries to slow down the evolutionary process of technology.. there's so many awesome technological advances that we could be applying to society.. things that could seriously benefit everyone..
there's tons of pro-choice and anti-abortion people out there.. but this seems like a win-win situation.. atleast a mother wouldn't be throwing her child away.. technically, she would be an organ donor..
and don't give me none of that, "its murder!! its a human being!!".. so again, technically, if the baby happens to kill the mother during birth, the child could be charged for murder? after all its a human being... the same rights apply.. if you eat eggs, then you should support cloning to benefit humans in need.
i really hope its not a musical.. a friend of mine made a good point.. almost all cartoon movies are musicals.. dont get me wrong though, southpark was a genius.. the musical score was brilliant.. but beavis and butthead do america did fine without the whole musical aspect.. and i know the simpsons could kick all of their asses if they just stuck with original simpsons humor..
Geos was definitely great for its time... does anyone know if they version thats available for download is for C64 only??
i remember in the later 80s and early 90s they released a version of Geos for PC x86.. i hope this version will be available for download.. i have some old shitty computers that would be fun to to geofy.. if not i guess i'm going to have to get the ol' C64 out of the closet..
anyone have a C64 floppy drive cable for sale ??:-D its that weird din cable.. *lewks @ ebay*
i can't believe these people get so pissed about the distribution of music.. i still have yet to figure out why this is as big of a deal as the record industry is making it out to be..
it benefits the artist more than any type of distribution ever.. the RIAA in particular is just mad because they didn't think of the idea first.. you don't have to charge people for music, when in the long run the artist will have a HUGE fan base thanks to free distribution WORLDWIDE.. don't you think that the record industry could benefit like CRAZY by saving money on distribution and pressing costs?? help the artist.. don't destroy them..
it kinda reminds me of the idiots that spill coffee on themselves at Mcdonalds then sue them for millions because it was hot..
or the people that sue the cigarette companies becuz the smokes gave them lung cancer..
its just getting boring and its a cheap skate way to get money..
i dont like microsoft just as much as the next person.. but its not because they make a shit load of money.. its because they make an OS that doesn't get my job done..
i see what you're saying about possibly breaking out the Wine a little too early...
the article was a little ruthless if you ask me.. of course i want opensource to prevail.. but i don't see it happening anytime soon.. companies will only need to HIRE more Linux guru's which will cost them money.. when the could just buy something like MS 2003 server.. its sad but true... they dont give a fuck about opensource movements.. they just want to save money... licensing is a bitch though with that MS 2003 server.. the only downfall really.. and plus the fact that its MS.. haha
yes.. i agree with you very much... the first 2 movies of the Matrix were pretty good... but they both developed so many sub-plots, that were NOT concluded whatsoever in the 3rd movie... damn bastards..

just kidding.. the earth simulator is a beast..
i used R4 when it first came out, then eventually went to BeOS 5 Max Edition.. it was pretty fun I guess.. it was nice to have on a seperate partition.. and when max edition was first released, it had one of those boot executables that you could just click on or run from your current OS, then it would auto-reboot into BeOS.. kinda nifty if you just feel like fuckin around, and experimenting with some different things, and a different look.. every once and a while i just like to SEE something a little different on my GUI..

there was enough data in that entry of yours to prove you're a homosexual
man.. women no longer need us.. men are becoming obsolete.. thats just fuckin great...
