Ah, yes, but this only shows your lack of sophistication. Believing the government, how quaint. This would be a much better response, guaranteed to get you boatloads of positive moderation:

"The DoNotCall registry has a privacy policy which states that the e-mail address is only used for confirmation and will be stored separately from the phone numbers. Fortunately, I am too wise to fall for this dastardly scheme thought up by the evil genius of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. Because of my vaunted sophistication, I know for certain that this is a fig leaf to cover the insertion of this data into the TIA database run by the war criminals Don Rumsfeld and John Poindexter. Further, thanks to my superior intellectual ability, I am sure that the oil barons who control GWB will use the e-mail addresses for spamming in an effort to make even more money. The only way for us to be safe is to hope that Howard Dean is elected this year. And, of course, to make sure that the Supreme Court doesn't get a chance to rig the election again. Until that happens, I will be much too smart to include myself on this purported "DoNotCall" List, which I think will be sold by the Republican Party to the highest bidder."

See, that wasn't so hard! Now you too can comment on political issues here at Slashdot and reap the ever increasing karma rewards!

"they never bothered to even cover many of the anti-war protests that occured."

Then where did YOU learn about these protests? Did you attend all of them? Or did you learn about them someplace other than FOX?

It doesn't matter how many independent voices there are if you only use a sample size of one to form your opinions. FOX had very little on the demonstrations, MSNBC seemed embarrassed to be covering them, but did a bit. CNN at times seemed downright cheerful to be showing them, while NPR felt almost as if it was out and out participating. At least, that was the impression I got as I WATCHED THEM ALL. (well, listened in the case of NPR).

The media giants are not one large monolith most of the time. I think the FCC is wrong because this ruling will make it *more likely* for stations to stifle minority opinions, and there is no appreciable upside for the public to offset this potential problem.

  7. Re:Even more interesting on Congressional Anti-Piracy Caucus Formed · · Score: 1

In Congress a caucus is essentially the latter definition. There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of them. One of the best examples is the Congressional Black Caucus, which assembles all the African-American congresspeople do discuss issues they feel are important.

Caucuses have different effects also. A particularly wealthy caucus might hire a staff person or two to coordinate policy and set up activities. On the other hand, caucuses like the (made up on the spot) "We Love Springfield" caucus are little more than resume padding for elected officials.

Caucuses are not anti-democratic, though. They have no official role, and just serve as a single name for a group of like-minded Congressman and/or Senators. The grand-post was also wrong. If members disagree they should form their OWN caucus (i.e. the Open Source Rox0rs!!! Caucus).
