Is'nt there some laws against a school publishing students information? Or is he a criminal to be scorned and ridiculed. Maybe we should put him in the City Square and Stone Him!
I say the carelessness of this school should be carefully investigated to make the children safe. Not all/.'ers (and other sites this hosting this story) are interested in "helping" this child. Some are perverts!
It's not heat or even mech stress. The problem is RFI on the heads. Those little heads use such small levels of signals it's a wonder the noise floor is not to high with the RFI inside a computer case.
My brother had two(four drives) of these racks a few years ago. We scraped them for the metal and made a profit of over $300. It was so cool to take them apart. Two inch voice coil for head movement; they were driven with what apeared to be just a DC liner audio amp. A big 3/4Hp AC motor to spin the disc. I scraped the nice power supplies for testing electronics.
Was lots of fun recycling these.
And yes I did want them in my living room; but I could'nt pay the electric bill if I did. Kinda like running your clothes washer 24hrs a day.
1.One Tape - slide it in 2.One Button - Press for Selection 3.Four Lights - Four Play List
The player was as simple as you can get with tapes.
1.One Motor 2.One Solinod 3.One Tape head 4.One Audio Amp 5.A few lights and hardware to tie it together. 6.A Box!
I say we need to start an Open Source/Hardware rework of the design. The patents might not be a problem anymore.
1.High Quality Design of the Mechanisum 2.LCD front panel Song display 3.Maybe a seek(fast Foward) button added. 4.Digital/Analog Tapes
A.Both analog and digital tape ability.
B.Backwards compatibility with orignal 8-tracks.(yes i know most are broken now) 5.Dolby/Suround on Digital Tapes.
I would love to have a so eligant design in an old 50's Chevy. Retro but High Tech at the same time. So Cool...
Makes me wonder if they get lots of Radio Frequency Interference. At 2.0m to 2.8m long they would be sensitive in the RF range of 107MHz to 149MHz. Any Hams/Broadcast Engineers know whats in that range of frequencys?
Thank You... we need to drop this crappy HIFI type of mentality in the Wireless Network world. Unfortunely WiFi has stuck and we will have to wait until something new pushes it out. Same with WiMAX. WLAN is good but it does'nt roll off the tounge like WiFi. We need something that is easy to say, means something, and is well known by the masses. NetLink, NoWire, WiLap, WiWorld, ComNet, LapCell, InfoLink, LapRad, RadLink (yeah that's cool;)...
ok I'm done... anyway think about it and lets start a new wave of cool acronyms.
I have looked for a "Basic" 4+ channel input card, (for security cams and simple audio streams); but i can only find expensive ones. Anyone have any ideas what is good and cheap? Oh and it must work with Linux.
The last time I watched the shuttle past to the north of my house it was entering the atmosphere( a few years ago). The most cool group of air and space craft I have ever seen. One shuttle two helocopters, one jumbo jet and a small plain; all in my view at the same time. So Cool... The local news is saying that NASA will not renter over land anymore? So sad that I we will never see it renter over land again. What is NASA afraid of? Another rain of bodies? Not likely. NASA please reconsider; rentry is such a sight to see.
Thank You NASA; May darwinism not shine on you today. If GOD then: Godspeed. If not then: Best wishes!
I think you have to take your /. blinders off first. ;)
Intel's chips will use that extra sillicon for a nice pair of fake breasts.
I think you misspelled "chicks".
You need to press the velocity key too.

Or so I would think.

The 8-track was a great idea. Bad design.
It had the best User Interface.
