"......Who in their right mind would use Jet for this or for anything important for that matter?"
To answer the above question: A: A salesman who just got back from a MS sales conference. The sad part is I am not to suprised they would make a stupid move like using Jet considering I have worked at places that could not understand why their accounting system kept crashing once they got to 99,000 records. It was because the sales manager decided the entire accounting system should be run on MS Access because SQL Server or Oracle was to expensive which was the stated reason, the actual reason was that $30,000 or so he saved in not using a DBMS designed for large data sets was then given to him in the form of a bonus for his ability to save the company money. He quit 3 weeks after the product was completed and rolled out. Oh and it cost them an additional $100,000 after 3 months of problems to develop a new accounting system which they decided then to get input from their IS department.
Question: What database do the DIEBOLD ATM systems use for transactions?
If you are not angry can I have some of your drugs?
Those loosing power will do and say almost anything to get it back. Valid points sure but the extent of the problem how it is stated in the article I disagree with. The money to be made from creating music will shift, be it from Record companies to technologies companies and even to small companies that specialize in cataloging and offering music (iTunes in idea not necessarily the company) the artists on the other hand will just have different bosses.
Considering a lot of people feel the US elections are going to be hacked (me included) my only hope is who ever does the hacking elects Ronald McDonald to congress at least then there will be a real clown in congress.
Why don't they make it so you could watch UMD's on your TV? I mean if they are going to charge so much for them why are we forced to watch it on such a small screen? Just a thought........
That is all well and good if the RIAA didn't sue people because they think they are about to break copywrite laws. Plus when they loose money they blame it on illegal activity not the fact they are pumping out terrible no talent eye candy artists. I agree if they are to stupid to realize what is going on they should go out of business but since they are a monolopy of sorts this call campaign sounds like a good idea.
I dumped AT&T Wireless a few years ago when my CC # was stolen (twice) after I paid my wireless bill online. I told them about the situation and how I paid my bill both times (first time at home second at work). They told me I was on my own for the most part and all but refused to look into the problem on their end. So I cancelled my service with them and about 2 weeks later my buddy called me and told me his CC# was stolen a few weeks after paying his AT&T bill online. So from my stand point AT&T has been giving personal information out without permission for years and now they are just trying to make it legal hmmm where have I heard that before?
All I can say to this is my mild ADD is why I got into programming. In programming I was able to train my mind to focus on multiple problems and solutions at once. Considering I am working in places where they are making less people do more and more this has started to become one of my strongest qualities.
I agree... I have been working for small companies for the past 9 years or so and have seen the shift to PHB's what I have found though is this is do to poor hiring in the beginning. I can't count the amount of time execs are hired because of they lied, overstated, you get the idea on their resume and actually had no clue how to performe their job, so they feel they are safer hiding behind PHB's and it's sad to say in most companies it works. Only advise is to try and talk to as many employees as you can when interviewing for a position. This will give you an idea of the culture of the company.
I agree with several of the/.ers when they question if people at Walmart can assemble a PC but isn't this just Walmart's way to make their shoppers feel included? I mean many if not most of the/.ers are never going to go to Wallmart for parts so the marketing guy who came up with this was looking at it as a way to make building PC's cool similar to how IPods make creating mp3's cool for those same Walmart shoppers. Just a thought......
I am a Sr Developer for a small company after being unemployed for three months. While I was unemployed I had several interviews and just about every interview I went on had some sort of personality test. They usually claim it is to make sure you fit in with the corporate culture. I am never comfortable with these tests but spoke with some of my HR friends and they gave me tips on how to act and the corporate buzz words they like to hear. The online tests are tougher and I usually take them to learn the questions they are generally asked but continue to look else where.
I on a bet with a friend learned corporate speak and them translated his ideas to corporate speak after he was shot down. He was suprised how many of his ideas got signed off on when I pitched them.
I'm assuming you have never been stopped because you fit the description..... Of course when asked what the description was they say "You know you look like those people...."
I think each should get 2 electoral college votes to place on any candidate and in state where it is close (50 - 50 if that could actually happen) then they can split the votes and Washington DC get 1 electoral college vote which in the event of a tie could determine the winner this will help to force the candidates to go to more states (I live near PA which is a battleground state). This way at least every state can understand what it is like to be bombarded with campaign ads which do nothing but scare and confuse people after they see them for the 100th time. I will save my other media comments (like the old fairness in media law Regan got rid of) for another conversation.
A few of my IT buddies went through a similar situation and explained to the CEO they could not afford the extra cost they would incur when they became responsible for home broadband access and company equipment and requested a salary adjustment to compensate them for the extra money they would be spending. After several meetings with the new CEO they got a salary increase and some extra time offer for their trouble.
When I purchased my PS2 many moons ago I only had 3 PS2 games and no money (I had to buy a bundle pack at the time) I played most of my PS1 games until I was able to get more PS2 titles. 10% seems about right because PS2 now has a large selection of titles so now there is not as much of a need for me to play my old PS1 games. I must admit I do still play FF7 on my PS2 once in a while. If the XBox2 is going to launch with a large selection of titles and one title is included in the purchase of an XBox2 (I have not seen that since the NES days) Then I would considering purchasing an XB2 even if it was not backward compatible but if not I will probably wait until they drop the price 3 or 4 times before I think about getting one.
I had the same problem but I actually had to have one of my lawyer buddy's get on the phone and threaten them before they gave me a new phone and corrected my account
I had one billing error in my favor. While with AT&T wireless (I am now with Nextel and happy for the most part) I had my service suspended because my bill was 2 months past due so after 3 call 2.5 hours each I got through to a CSR who actually listened to my problem and did not just read from a script. What happen was the last 2 months my account was not being credited (joys of paying bills online with AT&T Wireless I guess) once the CSR noticed the problem they restored service. Here's the kicker It took me another 3 hours to explain to them I was being charged for calls I did not make and I was being doubled billed for reactivation fees when is was clearly their fault. So finally after another hour of explaining to them I was fed up with the games and was contacting legal representation to correct this issue. I was given two options first I could receive a credit on my wireless account for the amount owed to me (about $200) or they could cut me a check. The credit would be instant (but it seemed all the rates increased and the credit which should have lasted 3 - 4 months for me lasted about 1.5 months because all my calls seemed to then be rounded up to the nearest 10 min) or I could wait 6 - 8 weeks for the check to arrive in the mail. So after I changed my online shopping credit card twice (it seems when I paid my bill online with AT&T wireless my card was stolen TWICE!) and got my 2nd month's bill I had enough of AT&T's games and ended my service and went with Nextel which has much better CS (at least for me) but the reception could be better. So I guess even if billing errors are in you favor it almost requires a lawyer to correct their error yet they are always more than happy to take your money.
I am currently working for a tech company and attending school to complete a BS degree program. I have went for a lighter course load and a (one to two classes at most) and created a schedule to split my time between work tasks and school tasks (at least on paper) I also have adjusted my social life a bit so I have more time for school. I have been in school for about a year and a half and although its tough I feel creating a plan before I started was easier than trying once I am in school.
Operator: Hello Tip line
Caller: Yes I'm calling about the Darth Vader bank robbery

{Call cuts off}

"...Anybody feeling screwed yet?"
Yes and I wish games would start supplying free dinner tickets at least this way I can get dinner before I get screwed.....
How much of that leads to this?
One In Five Windows Installs Is Non-Genuine
I know I have run into this working on old PC's from friends and family who loose their OS disk.
"I can't understand the obsession USA:ians has with turning their car into a living room."
Simple 3 hours a day in the car (to and from work) usually stuck in traffic makes the in car living room a welcome distraction.

To get people to spend $7+ to see a movie YES
