futurama is good for its writing. not its graphics. I can bet that the graphics in any futurama game will likely look close to the TV show - in which case, I'll play Hitman 2, UT(X) and other visually pleasing games.
Its kind of like southpark on DVD - I bought the movie and watched it maybe two times ever.... waste of money.
"In this case, the rules actually *have* been rewritten because of the interactive nature of the internet."/i"
That is a good point - and maybe you're right. this is a different medium than traditional print news of the past - and yes there is way too much information out there for there to truely be pure objective reporting in that they have to pick and choose the most relevant stories to put into print.
maybe there should be a site that acts as a line printer of news... kind of like an AP wire on steriods - that just simply lines out every story that is on the wire... no sorting - nothing. just raw pure news thats floating around no pics nothing but text....
although one thing I still dont like is that sites like slashdot would forward people onto the stories that require registration (forgetting the reg generator and using fake logins etc) does slashdot get a referal fee for directing so much traffic their way? and if not now - will this be a model in the future that sites might want to use? if so, how do we then know that when an article goes up - its not from a marketing perspective as a site might want a certain demographic (slashdots geek group en mass) to see a particular story that might be tailored to them....?
anyway - you are right about the changing of the rules.... I ll have to think about that some.
"Note: I will be the one deciding who stores what. Think of it as like moving to a new place. You can choose your electricity, gas, phone, cable and Internet providers.""
kinda, the thing thats wrong with this is that an apartment is stationary. You do not get charged on *your* power bill when you go watch tv at your parents house. Or pay on your internet bill when you use some other machine to check email.

Hmmm... Thats all well and fine... but a bit excessive I'd say. I dont currently own a tivo - many of my friends do - and although I think they are nice, I dont think that I miss all that much not having 1200 hours or any other number, worth of space for recording.
however! please contact me when they have come out with a tivo that has an automated DVD burner in it - where I can schedule a show to be recorded - burned - deleted all while I am out at the beach!
First I do not think that my job title or gender are a matter of national security.
Second - "quality journalism" was always provided in the past under the spirit of quality journalism - in that journalists felt that the people had a right to know what was going on in the world around them. They reported world events because they were journalists, its a duty most felt.
but here - you miss the point that this is no longer "quality journalism" when you are "selling" it for demographic information. This "quallity journalism" has now become biased in a sense as it is no longer a purely objective repoting of events that happen around us, now they want something in return that is above and beyond what was historically expected. Yes you would have to purchase newspapers - and that is entirely understandable. Newspapers needed to be published, which costs. Journalists needed to be paid etc. Monetary reimbursment for effort put forth.
here its a matter of principle. Entirely objective reporting requires absolutely no demographic information for the purposes of targeting editorail content. Editorial content should not be targeted to anyone.
this taints the nature of journalism by making it a matter of market research and not pure un-biased objective reporting.
I am sorry if you fail to see this. and if it matters not to you, then fine... i just dont like to contribute to that attitude. i dont like elitism in todays media - and I dislike even more attaching a demographic marketing slant on news as well.
therefore I choose not to contribute to the model. i dont feel that i miss out - most of what the media reports is stuff that is not pleasent to think about - i would rather spend my mental cycles on more pleasing thoughts, and not focus on the seemingly perilous and doomsday world projected through most news sources today.
"Trouble is, its NOT about learning to use your character effectively so you can move on. To get past the newbie phase all you need to do is invest a lot of time"
Care to rethink that statement? Learning to use your character effictively is a part of the newbie evelotion into experienced player, which of course requires an investment of time. They *are* the same.
I remember when I played UO - in '97 and '98... it took a little while to get the hang of the game... but when we were GMs - we knew that game and how to play our character inside and out - so did the other GMs. We were PKs way back when - and it was a challenging and very exciting game back then.
seriously - I do not read anything at any site that requires registration for news. They dont have to take my picture everytime i buy a newspaper - why should I have to register to get it online?
Thanks, I waited to get some good responses to my posting before following up with questions.
Your post seems to most reflect where I was going with the original ask slashdot.
SO - here is the big next step question then:
I have this nifty Idea - it seems to be patentable, but at the same time I do want to build a business around it - but i want to get funding for that business. The time to turn the idea into a real world application will take about 6 months. with more features being able to be added to it indefinitely.... all I really need is to get solid funding (not that much actually)but how do you protect your idea while your approaching VC's - NDA??
I was thinking that by approaching VC's with an executive summary written in "patent style" might be even better - then start development, and after you get funding and real development begins you could pursue the lawyers to push a full patent through much more easily....
I in no way want to sit around for any length of time while patents "pend" - I want to get funding and develop this in the next few months.
well, even though I never liked bon jovi, this is an interesting idea.
although after seeing jon bon jovi's interview on leno a while after he was on ally mcbeal - the guy is an absolute moron. self centered over the hill idiot.
so its safe to say that this is *not* jon bon jovi's idea - and I would like to give credit to the person who came up with this plan.
but seeing as how jon bon jovi is (as previously stated) a fool - I wonder what the hidden catches are.
Hey jon bon jovi - you're not a rock star (as you said way too many times in your leno interview) you're a has been that has been sold a novel idea on the release of your(?) new CD.
real musicians actually write all their own stuff - which is rare in the industry these days.
because they can leverage an infrastructure for distribution thats pre-existing. and for the most part - they see anyone who has napster to be a potential client. and as the other poster pointed out napster is practically a household band name now.
how better to bring fine hot college sluts the want your DICK NOW!! to the masses.

what if your reading a bad review of a bad review of a possibly bad product? but you cant determine if the product is bad or good because you may have thought that the bad review was actually a good review, but it got a bad review? thereby making your possible purchase of the good or bad product a bad decision to spend good money on something that had a review that was reviewed as bad?

About a year or so ago I got a snail mail version of this scam - yes, a physical letter in my mail box.
But that was before I ever saw it in email - so I didnt think twice aboutthrowing the thing away...
Has anyone else received the nigerian fortune letter in your meatspace inbox?

we would need Wil Wheaton so adequately represent Slashdot!!
I thought there were plenty of Script K1dd13z on Slashdot. There has to be some bash scripter... oh wait. Nevermind.

You want repetitive plot lines? Two words: Star Wars.
with this camera it may be :
"A picture is worth 2 Libraries of Congress"
I would like to see comparison images taken with a low level megapixel device compared with this one.
11 megapixels is an impressive number - but means nothing to me until i see what that actually translates to - picure. 1K words. etc....
GAUNTLET. or CONTRA....
the new version of gauntlet sucks. ZELDA. BARDS TALE!!!
as we have heard many many times here on Slashdot - security through obscurity is *not* the best solution.
What you need is IPsec (International Portuguese security) - only when you implement this scheme will your country not get t3rr0r00t3d.

lots of Geeks have known this their whole lives....
