I have been playing games ever since the early commodores in 4th grade. The drives were tape drives - cassette tape drives. I'm almost 28.

I was just wowing over screenshots just this morning... I will likely play games until I am very old. I cant wait to see what they are like when I am 50....

but I dont really pay attention to hardware as much as I used to. one, because I quit being an IT manager - and two, because things are faster, cheaper, better all the time. The only thing i marvel at is looking at what i paid for parts - then seeing what you get for the same - or less these days.

In '96 I built a dual 266 PII system. Each Processor was $750.00. Do you have any idea of the system you can get for $750 these days!.

I guess I finally understand the old addage: "When I was your age......"

when my kids (I dont have any yet) are my age, computers will be seamlessly integrated into thier surroundings. they will likely be a sloid cube of chip that contains every component a "modern" machine has in about 1 cubic inch - and will just be replaced rather cheaply when you find the need to upgrade.

    THANK YOU.

I had similar problems with the barracudas.... we had 20 servers with about 10 drives each. we had failures left and right - and were using the DPT controllers as well.

We had a slew of spare drives in the closet for failure replacements - and each one of these drives cost about 900.00 at the time.

    crappy ass drives.

We eventually replaced all of them with new ones - and now I have a happy little raid box at home, I have all the "known goods" from that time.

funny thing is they are all 9Gb drives...

I still have a 3Gb drive that I bought ~95 for shitloads of money... still works too. gotta love the size/power and price of components these days.

Only thing is - with all this power I still dont seem to get more done.

I for one NEVER return any calls that are left by automated machine. also - if I ever get any calls with "please hold for the next available representative" etc... I just hang up. and never call them back when requested.

I was out of work for almost two years in this recent economic slump - and I have some bad credit now... not too much - only about 3500... but since I was making NO income, I could not pay some bills. Now that I am working again - I am trying to get caught up...

even though they are calls from creditors - my philosophy is: If they cant take the time to have a real person call me - I will not pay them, or call them until they do.

I dont care about credit ratings - I maintain average credit, but for the most aprt I buy *everything* cash only. The only reason why I used the card I had was due to not working for 1.75 years and running out of my savings. I have bought my last three cars in full with cash payments, which does not go down on your credit BTW...

Any company that uses automated customer services does not deserve me as a customer. I am actually thinking about starting a coalition that gets members to join just so we can petition companies into realizzing that excellent customer service (with real live people) directly effects the bottom line. and that shitty automated services just drives frustrated customers away.

sadly though - I think it would be a losing battle as coporations could give a shit about real live human customers.
