    Lobby driven drivel is permeating the entire media sphere. Why would /. be exempted form it? The best thing to do is check out. I will come back in a year or two and see how things have progressed. Right now, I'm in the Patagonian rain forest and loving it...

  4. I was going to mod you up, but then decided to reply. I don't think the push is really for cars. The real effront (sp. ;-) is to get cheap viable facial recognition in the wild. The Digital Panopticon is almost upon us. This is going to become a very serious issue in the next decade.

    Microsoft still pops up an instant dialog trying to get users to format ext drives. When they stop doing this, then i will consider whether they are sincere about playing nice with Linux...

    Ubuntu was at the top of their game (and at the top of the heap) with 10.04 LTS. It's been pretty much downhill since then. I would go with Mint Mate or LMDE Mate if you want some extra stability and some extra learning curve... ;-)

    Just because they don't actively fight it, does not in any sense mean they "want" it. Also people have the misplaced conception that corporations are respectful. How misguided is that???

    I think Kurzweil is about right for 2029 assuming nothing big happens. If we just go rolling along with the research for the next 12 years, then MMIs will be amazingly advanced. My guess however is that we have at least a major depression and very possibly a world war to get through. I say somewhere around 2050...

    Maybe they know something we don't. This setup will allow for an alternate comm path should the current satellites and cables become unavailable. Hams and the government would still be able to communicate. Assuming an EMP event, then most of the hams would be out of business and only the govt would still be able to communicate with the equipment that we paid for them to harden... Just sayin'

    You're kidding right??? They have plenty of money to conduct their obscenely detailed internal searches... This has nothing to do with the two fully inbred political parties. It has everything to do with the protection of the hegemony of the State.

  22. AT&T dispensed with Occam's Razor ages ago. Someone else suggested they be put on poles. I have another solution: Instead of enhancing LTE services, let's have blocking devices and make it a "No Phon Zone".

  23. Open source should be mandatory, but I don't know why we are even discussing this. The first thing that the designers will do is weaponize it. Then we are all well and truly fooked. A correctly done AI will be our salvation by applying all the laws equally, A poorly done AI will obliterate us. There's no room for error here... just sayin'

    I keep squat on my laptop. I have an external 1TB encrypted drive with over 500,000 files on it. Also at the top level is a folder named BCPStega. That should keep them busy... BwaHaHaHa...
