Fucking PETA. I'm going to eat a creek kitten right now. A trout. And, by the way, PETA, I paid $30 to be licensed to actually catch that trout, and I have a limit to how many I can take daily. The money I paid for that license is used to A. Figure out just how many fish I can catch without too much of an impact on the ecosystem, and B. hatch me new trout for every season.

And I'm gonna wash down my creek kitten meal with some milk. I'll do my best to make sure the milk comes from a cow whose offspring went to the veal factory, and for dessert I'm going to have bear-liver pate spread on bread made with yeast that were genetically engineered to feel the pain of being baked at 350F.

The problem in the US is that by the time someone decides to drive a manual-transmission car, they've been driving auto for years. Before I could even get my girl to move the vehicle I had to spend an hour explaining just exactly what a clutch does and why you can't fully stop the car without it.

Hell, a lot of cars in the US don't even have a tachometer - most USians only know to push the right pedal harder to go faster and left pedal to go slower. No cognizance of gears or engine speed to wheel speed ratios. I've always called a stick shift a "standard" car. Go to any US car lot and try to find a stick shift. It's no longer standard, it's an option that's not always available. My old '95 T-Bird 4.6l could not be purchased with a manual transmission, even though the body is equipped with bolt taps and punch-outs for a clutch pedal and master cylinder, and Ford makes two or three different manual transmissions that not only fit the motor, but the chassis too without modification. But you can't buy it!

Yeah, earmarks aren't bad, and here's an example:

I live in PA. Texas is bigger than PA.

If we divided the money up "fairly", Texas would get more highway money than PA. It's bigger. Its got twice the peeple. Wrong.

So, my reps have to legislate interstates into existence (I99), taking an "unfair share" of highway money.

PA has trucks with nine foot snow blowers that would make any Texan shit their pants driving in the mountains, and those don't even come close to keeping roads navigable sometimes. Because of this, my state takes an unfair share of highway money, thanks to earmarks.

From my point of view, immigration isn't a problem. Texas, however, takes more of my taxbuck to keep illegal immigration in check than PA does. They need their earmarks to fight that.

If it wasn't for local reps fighting for earmarks in federal budgets, el estado mexicano de Tejas construiría la carretera en PA because my state wouldn't be able to afford it with American labor on its "fair share" of highway money!
