In the course of "conducting espionage" against Russian intelligence operatives OPERATING IN THE US, the FBI recorded the Russians talking to Carter Page, Trump's foreign policy advisor, who they had previous evidence of collaborating with Russian Intelligence. But that's nothing to get suspicious about, right? No reason to follow up on that, right?

    Indeed. The VC market (and capital markets in general) is on pace for the biggest (probably bigger) crash-and-burn since 2000. But I have faith that the current administration will handle it with their usual deft, competent aplomb.

    I could say the same about CRM or ERP. Each vendor has a different philosophy, technology, database, etc. Still, top-level execs and engineers at such firms are pretty much interchangeable.

  18. Because the brick-and-mortar store only has to send the collected funds to single (possibly a few) taxing bodies: i.e. the one where the store is located. Online sellers would have to collect and send money to thousands of taxing bodies. Next thing, they'll be demanding that the money be kept in separate escrow accounts.

  19. And in many (over 50%) situations, eBay & Amazon are merely bulletin boards where buyers and small independent sellers get together. Lots of eBay sellers have their entire inventory in the hall closet. Are they the ones who are supposed to handle calculating state and local sales taxes and getting that money to thousands of taxing jurisdictions? How about we apply sales taxes to people selling used couches and washing machines via local classifieds or craigslist?

    These are state sales taxes being applied to interstate commerce. It's the reason why sales taxes have never been applied to out-of-state catalog sales. Your inflammatory rhetoric is just that.

    I have a friend who's a school bus driver. Using a cellphone while behind the wheel (even when parked) is a first-time termination offense. And remember, there is sound and video recording in school buses.

    We don't have a "human in the loop, deciding" for the current generation of neural net AIs. We don't have a human deciding over genetic algorithms, either. We create a fitness function, back propagation, whatever, and it's off to the races, unintended consequences be damned. The fact that we build/design along the lines of "improve yourself along criterion X" means we're slowly building an existential threat to ourselves whether we realize it or not. Clearly, a soldier-bot has two prime directives: 1) wipe out the enemy 2) stay functional, so you can wipe out the enemy.
