  1. Why are we still scared of cookies? on Do We Need A Better Private Browsing Mode? (networkworld.com) · · Score: 1

99.99% of my browsing I don't care if hosts know that I've been there before, or that I've been to a "partner" site. I rather like that my browser keeps a history of visited sites. Incognito is good if you want to keep your dirty habits secret from someone who might get their hands on your data. There is no such thing as truly private browsing. Yeah, yeah, VPN for your torrents, Great Firewall, etc, but there are holes in the security well past anything a typical user can influence.

Sorry, but if you have a PS3 and HDTV, what kind of HD movie are you most likely to buy? I actually interact with the real people who buy real products. 90% of the people who buy s PS3 are for gaming. 50% of them have an HDTV, the rest want one. Blu-Ray is more prevalent in the minds of the people I talk to. The average person I see knows the Blu-Ray buzzword more than the HDDVD. It sounds cooler, it's not a jumble of letters that mean nothing to most people. Go to any place that sells movies and see how many people know that DVD stands for "Digital Video/Versatile Disc"

I've sold more PS3's (20 roughly) than 360 HD-DVDs (1 because one of my people left a $99 tag in front of it). Current hype from corporate is all about blu-ray being the frontrunner. However my store doesn't even deal in high def movies as of yet so I doubt I'll see the players.

I take it you don't know the average person. True most people today know that apple makes the ipod and the mac. However the branding means little to nothing. When it comes down to problems with windows or their PC i hear more complaints about the brand of PC, not about windows. "I'll never buy another HP, tell me about this Compac." "Do you have any Dell?" "Will this logitech mouse work with my emachine even if it's not an emachine mouse?" Concerning the XBox, it's not Sony and it's not Nintendo, and that's about all people know. I haven't met any non-techie who cares that MS made windows and the Xbox.

  19. I work in a Wal-Mart photo lab. on Your Digital Photos Are Too Professional · · Score: 5, Interesting

We have plenty of pro photographers use our services for both proofs and a few for their final products. Others just get us to make a CD from their film. We also have a number of amateurs that use us. (and for those of you snickering at the idea of pros using Wally World, we have Fuji Frontiers, look them up, and I at least know how to use it)
All I have to do to determine the authenticity is have a look at their source. After a little practice you can determine most scanned images from an original digital file. There's also EXIF in the originals. Most pros and amateurs just bring in their CF card and most of the happy snappy crowd doesn't know how to use a card reader. And if you are a pro and give your customers non-watermarked hi-res CDs I take that to mean you give them full release. Many photographers do just that.

Sorry for the rather disjointed comment, I'm home on lunch and time is limited! ;)

If you're in Taylors SC and need inexpensive quality prints, just come see William. :)
