No, that's not what they're saying. What they're saying is that they'll give Company A's packets "priority" - this would not necessarily have to have any impact over Company B's available bandwidth, until a saturation point is reached.

We purchased a non-internet connected phone for my wife because she specifically didn't see the need for that cost.

Now that she's seen my phone a few times and saw that I can get to facebook on it, she now wants one. So you're right - as the tech catches up, you'll really find just the biggest of either the penny pinchers or the old schoolers (of which I was one for the longest time) holding out just because they see no need. It's just like with everything else - I'm sure you know the guy who doesn't have an HDTV yet (count me in in that set.) It's all about perceived need and spending; some people just don't need it or want to spend the money.

Also - email on some phones can be more difficult to set up; putting in email addresses and such - to where if you have someone call your phone, you have their number right away and can instantly start texting, no further information required.

From a convenience perspective, I'd get a consumer cell repeater - they're around 300 USD last time I checked; a friend installed one in his house and it works really well. The only stipulation is that where you have the antenna you must have signal or it's kind of pointless (roof etc.)

I also was involved with purchasing one for work. Came with a yagi antenna that you point at the cell tower of your choice - there's a site on the 'nets that can point out the basic direction of a cell tower in your area. Probably closer to 800 or so but definitely worthwhile if part of your business requires solid cell phone coverage due to being on call or just generally reachable. I find it easier to give out one work cell phone number rather than my desk phone, home phone and personal cell phone.

Ah, LAN parties... haven't been to one in a long time. My memory is of playing C&C Generals against another team and "strategically" taking out my best friend's bulldozers right quick. I knew he was the only real threat, and by building airplanes early I was so undefended, but once he was off the board... well, we stomped the rest!

I too like having dedicated servers; my clan used to run one for UT2k4 - was an excellent way to get to know the good players, and an easy way to get rid of the bad. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't realize that in the real world it costs $$ to run one (if you want full access to a single box, 100-150$ a month is not uncommon in a decent data center) - and I would gather that most people from a console perspective cannot "host" a game due to the upload bandwidth restrictions on most USA connections.

One thing I am learning over and over from anyone who seriously rides motorcycles is that even one drink is enough to lower reaction time and impair your thought processes. Why shouldn't this also be something that is applied to ANY motor vehicle is beyond me. But - I can also understand being out and about and having a drink. Say at a sporting event or even just a good wine with dinner. The key here is make sure you know how much you're consuming and WAIT enough time for your body to get rid of it before you start up any machine that could kill you or others.

I see plenty of things while riding that make me cringe - yea, you're good, wearing a helmet and all - but you aren't wearing anything else but sneakers, shorts and a wife beater. Yea, your head will be fine.....

Seriously, everyone in life goes through different things. I am not going to start going around and throwing stats to the wind - to be honest, I don't have any and me just making them up doesn't do anyone any good.

I just think that being short-sighted enough to say people are fat and they can just get over it is a huge mistake if you don't understand the background of the underlying issue for the person. Telling someone to get to the gym or put down the fork - they may just not have the opportunity to hear this kind of motivation in a good light from someone knowledgable and be depressed all to hell about where they're at in life. I've seen it first hand - and until the person can realize they need to go somewhere for help it can consume them.

So yes, the experiences I've seen with people close to me - I'd never chastise them knowing now what I didn't know then. Just like with migraine headaches - I used to give my wife a hard time about them, saying they're just a headache. Well, then I got one. Makes all the difference in the world of understanding what's going on if you've been there yourself.
