hink of it along the lines of IE and HTML; if you don't want to close your tags, say your table td and tr tags, it's fine, the IE browser will do it for you.

Sure, you'd just all need to check-out the files to a shared "working directory". Only problem with that is someone else could edit the file while you are or check out a fresh copy over the top of your un-committed dev version. I suppose you could set the permissions on the files you check out so that only you can write them, but then if you're off sick and someone needs to edit it they'd be screwed.

Alternatively, you could all have your (separate) working directories as virtual servers under one web server?

This is also why i'd never buy a used xbox, who knows what the last person did with it - they could have dropped it a few times for all I know and the hard drive could be on it's last legs.

I suppose realistically there's as much chance of the optical drive dying as the hard drive, but I've got a CD-ROM drive that I got in the early 90s that still works fine, but hard drives from that era are starting to give up.

  20. Re:real cameras on Japanese Airline Sells Flight Sim On-Board · · Score: 2, Interesting

I recently flew Lauda to Europe from Australia, on one of their 777s, and they had exactly this as part of the entertainment system. There was a channel that was a "pointing down" camera and one that was a "Pilots Eye" view.

The downwards pointing one would have been a lot cooler if it was a bit more wide angle, and the pilots eye was kinda useless most of the time since in cruise the nose is usually angled slightly upwards, so all you could see was sky.

However, when coming in to land the nose cam was very cool, especially coming in to a windy Vienna and seeing the whole view skewed by about 5-10 degrees as the pilot had to yaw the plane to correct for crosswind.

Both cameras had the downside that they weren't very high quality (both resolution and image quality) and so didn't cope well with low ambient light levels.. landing was cool at night though, because you could see just the runway lights.

For Apple trailers though you can just stick an 'm' in front of the resolution in the container filename (as someone mentioned in another thread) as that is the name of the actual video file.

  22. Thoughts on a neat GTA game.. on Take Two/Rockstar Announce GTA Sales, Plans · · Score: 2, Interesting

What would be cool is a totally free form GTA game, where instead of there being a story as such you start of with nothing (I suppose similar to the others) but you can basically make your own way to 0wning the city, by taking over various neighbourhoods, hiring gangs to patrol your areas, getting involved in turf wars etc.

This would also present the opportunity for multiplayer where, say, you and a friend start at either end of the town and slowly build up your empire while trying to undermine / take over the other guy. You could even do it co-op, where you have 2 per side so one of you could handle running the operation while the other runs covert ops against the other side.

Anyway, I think there's lots of possiblity for something like this.. maybe include a few cities with the time you save on not having to do all the scripted mission stuff.. maybe a random city generator? It wouldn't be as nice as a hand created city but you could still get something quite reasonable.

    Yeah, that'd be a game i'd play :)
