Does it ever annoy anyone else that RAID 0 is considered a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks? RAID 0 is not redundant, in fact such an array can be more susceptible to errors. Maybe I'm just weird...

  4. Still a bandwidth issue on Mac mini All About Movies? · · Score: 1

In many parts of the country (such as Raleigh, NC) Netflix has a 2 day turn around, that mean that when I send back my three movies, I have three new ones two days later (three days if a sunday or holiday is in between). There's no way that I can download 3 full-length DVD movies in MPEG2 format (so I can encode into whatever I want with minimal loss) over my cable modem within 48 hours (we're looking at about 7GB/DVD). I'd say that video rental over the Internet, that is HD movie rental and such, is still a year or two away. More bandwidth is still needed. I am please at how TWC in my area has been steadily increasing the speeds, but I hope some competition (perhaps from Verizon FTTP or something) lights a fire under their monopolistic asses and gets us some real bandwidth that is competitive with the US mail system.

  5. an excellent product on Filesystem Problems with the Treo 650s · · Score: 5, Informative

I think this new item is a bit too negative. I just upgraded from a 600 to a 650 and I think it's a great product. I didn't even know about any of the filesystem "issues" before reading this news. While, I guess this may be an issue for some users, I have not had any problems myself. Also to note:

    - the 650 loads programs at least 3 times faster than the 600 from my experience (likely due to the faster processor, but still!)

    - the 650 has 4X the resolution of the 600. It can be argued that the 600 should have had 320x320 to begin withy, but either way, it's worth the upgrade by itself.

    - Also, one of the benefits of the new memory is that you don't loose data when you loose power completely. Making the removeable battery system feasible.

    - Finally, it's the first sprint phone (to my knowledge) to have bluetooth. I love my jabra :)

Well, just my $.02, I thought palmOne was getting a little too harsh of a rap, the 650 is a very good product in my opinion.

The real question here should be not was this right morally, I think we Americans are being far too self-righteous (not like that'd be unusual..) if we put it in terms of morality. What we really should be asking here is what can we do to warrant our pay? How can we become more competitive in an increasingly connected world? Rather than complaining about outsourcing, we need to find out how to be more competitive. Any ideas?

There is one really cool feature that caught me by surprise this last Christmas. It makes sense, if you have a vonage number, you can take the ATA anywhere in the world, plug it into a relatively speedy connection and then you are good to go! So, I took the ATA with me to Switzerland and I was able to call to the US as if I was there! Granted Switzerland already has really good long distance costs with swiss comm, but what was cool was that my friends at home could call me in Switzerland as if it was a local call! Very cool!
