Nah, what it comes down to is that too many people take offense at things that do not directly or in many cases indirectly affect them. They just want the attention and its easy to jump on a popular bandwagon because they then feel they belong and see other people agreeing with them.
that and it is whole lot easier than fixing their own lives. why not represent all the problems as being caused by someone else, then you can righteously stand by and not do anything about it; other than bitch on a message board.
Want to know how you can identify a sheep this election cycle? Simple, they vote for people with a D or R next to them. When you only have a choice between two parties what choice is that? Its like voting for the side of the coin that you want to land up and not acknowledging its the same coin regardless
Think about hit, pop little Susie on the butt for mouthing off to you at home and she tells her teacher. Well the law requires the teacher to report any hints of abuse and next thing you know child services is at your door.
take my friend's day care experience, no more time out, no more quiet area, and no more telling kids they are "bad", anymore as that hurts their self-esteem. So what happens? They call the parents EVERY TIME the kid acts up. Now it is suddenly the parent's problem if the kid acts up as the care center will no longer discipline. So when the kid won't behave the parents are told to not bring them back etc yet the center doesn't put any bounds on the kids and wonder why.
The problem is that we are a knee jerk reaction society. People cannot yell, spank, or otherwise discipline their children in public places because some do gooder will freak out and claim its abuse. They lose the ability at home because what many may perceive as mild punishment is child abuse to some fanatic with the backing of government. The news is replete with stories of the government agency overreacts, fails to protect children it places, and more, yet parents don't stand a chance against a group who can use police powers to take your children let alone put you in jail.
When people started relying on others to discipline kids and took the rights of their parents and even schools to set bounds it removed any inhibition. There is a natural reaction to being punishment when it comes to children, they learn where the threshold and correct the behavior to stay on the nice side.
just because we can measure better doesn't mean it happens more.
I look at it this way, nature is cruel. We are just better at observing it. How many species have come and gone that we have little record of? Linking it to "global warming" is just sensationalism, an attempt to make the situation sound more dire and attempt to guilt everyone as having been a willing participant in the demise of something they know little to nothing about.
Yet I can predict that every attempt to show otherwise will be met with venom.
Horrible decisions made from the financial standpoint.
Still I am curious, how many of these people in the income brackets live at home, did not list their spouse's income as part of it, or share a house/apartment which could minimize their income needs?
I know it seems heartless to some but a lot of people just don't get ahead because of their own actions. Go by an apartment complex and your bound to see many cars that make you shake your head. A great example is where I work. In our own support staff we have two guys with expensive cars, like a fairly current Mercedes or year old BMW 5 series. Throw in the cool cell phone and I just sigh and walk away when they bitch about not having sufficient money to do things other people do. Yet these same clueless individuals will buy into whatever politicians tell them, specifically that somehow its not their fault and its not fair. They really believe this to be true!
An article in the AJC earlier in the year was showing the plight of the homeless in Atlanta, the impact of the story fell on its face as all but two of those pictured had a cell phone - a few were using them when the picture was taken.
What it comes down to is that people fail to set proper priorities. They refuse to understand that they just can't have everything unless they have the real means to do so. Yet instead of spending that very same wasted money on improving their means they squander it forever setting themselves back. We used to be a society which tried to help each other out but that fell by the wayside when many began to demand that help without making any sacrifice themselves.
and there needs to be a dispute resolution method available.
From the people making comments about not buying EA products and such because of this policy I can tell very few if any have visited official forums of any game maker, let alone play the games online.
Basically you end up with the idiots who think the anonymity they enjoy by using some clever name somehow extends mystical powers of immunity to responsibility for their actions. I do so love all the twits who claim that either they type so fast a few cuss words slip out or "we are all adults whats your problem" or "there is a language filter so use it" or better yet "its their right to offend"
Sorry, its their house. They make the rules. If your too impatient to read the rules; tell me what percentage of these people who get banned just click past warning/terms of sale/terms of usage; only to claim they were blindsided.
Fine, don't buy their games. But realize that in many cases its practically required to be draconian in your actions when it comes to having a civil discussion. Too many people feel empowered by their internet connection let alone the fact that most places they go they can act like total jack asses on the net and get away with it.
Yet I know dozens of respected sites that will ban you forever and any alias they can find associated with you based on the isp connection data. Why is this any less offensive to people bitching about EA? After all some of those sites are businesses just on a different scale.
Comes down to, participation in the community on the internet needs to follow the same rules as participation in your local community. Its not the wild west and you are not above the law.
if your using the name in a way that can damage the business and use the confusion of your ownership of it to further this goal then I say they should have the right to challenge your use. Now if you are using it to demonstrate how you were personally experienced bad service or a product and document it in a mature manner I think they can go take a hike.
I have no problem with companynamesucks sites but I do have problems with companyname sites masquerading as a legitimate outlet of said company.

Something is up on Youtube recently as I am randomly getting junk FLV when downloading videos where a week or two ago all the videos I downloaded were viewable "offline"
What really sucks is that the FUD has started before the vote is done.
In other words, they are preparing for a loss by declaring any such loss as a fraud. I figure it this way, and close district probably has lawyers lined up and enough lackeys too stupid to vote but not too stupid to be trained to recite lines as told.
The only real documented fraud going on now is ACORN. I guess there had to be a diversion generated to make it look like the other side was being just as bad.
I know it is not currently but it will be one day.
I like achievements like these. I know it costs a lot of money but my hat off to the engineers who can come up with these machines let alone the driver who dares to do it. Too many people want to sit on their couch and bitch secure in the safe little world and never get out to live life.
I know many will scream "whats the point". Well the point is that no one has done it, people claim it cannot be done, and throw in the challenge of trying. It gives kids something to dream about, perhaps sparking some enthusiasm for different careers.
I know COBOL, I do not program in it for a living. The simple fact is that it works and it works well. Don't compare JAVA, C++, or C#, to it. Sorry those languages are so damn cluttered and so easily made incomprehensible it really is silly. The one thing I notice as a difference from COBOL (or similar) programmers compared to those using newer languages, the COBOL folks will use proven routines over the latest gee-whiz attempt to do it another way. I can go look into the C++ CMS and find a dozen ways to do the same damn thing because of developer ego or just plain ignorance. I have seen five lines of C exploded to a dozen lines simply because one guy didn't want to learn it or care to use something he didn't fully understand and was too sensitive to ask for help on.
I do code on the iSeries. I do RPG/LE, C, C++, SQL, and CL (iseries version of JCL). I can combine modules from each easily meaning I can easily make use of some of the COBOL our mainframers bring over. One or two minor changes and I have all the integrity of their routine which has been running for years. That running for years provides a great level of comfort that the other languages MUST earn. Declare the language of the week to be superior for whatever reason you want, it cannot provide the comfort level from proven existence and stability.
Would I want to go back to COBOL, not really. I will do so in a heart beat if it keeps me employed. I will do JAVA if necessary to stay employed but for ease of programming some of the older languages are where it is at. Now these languages are extended to share with other languages and you can embed SQL into IBM versions of SQL so you can have very good data access. All our interfaces to the web rely on COBOL/RPG backbones. The PC people tell us what they want and we deliver it. We might have one meeting to hash it out but for the most part we have our side done in a third of the time if not less.
Yeah, mainframe/mini bigot... but I do each platform.
Finally, there is no reason to replace working systems just because you can. Businesses don't stay in business if they just replace it simply because someone has a woody over a glossy ad.
I think the founding fathers of the US would scoff at the idea that Americans are the just the same as those who fought off the British, let alone comparing Russians from before Communism to todays.
Your right on that account. If you multibox across machines you go out of your way to keep everything in sync. This means same hardware and having what is installed software wise being the same. Most just copy the patch from one machine to the next. In my case, I am on a Mac, I have one install and a bash script which allows me to launch as many copies of WOW as I want. Makes running multiple copies of the game a breeze. No corruption of WTF, Cache, or my Addons, has occurred in the few years I have been doing it that way.
Bandwidth wise, I would have to say that even multiple accounts isn't enough to put any stress on a home dsl/cable connection.
but really it just gets old to hear this same tired line. It also is very easy to exaggerate issues so they appear as if everyone who could be bad is being bad but that is far from the truth. The last part about developing industries on the chance of making money is directly the fault of the Congress preventing oversight into Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Hell they are resisting now investigations into those two companies and only those two until AFTER the election - why is that?
As for the rational thought comment, ever wonder why it gets so highlighted in papers when it occurs? BECAUSE IT IS SO RARE. If it were common then the papers and such would rate it to page three if that. The fact is that the most likely interference into education (read public schools and college) comes from religions claiming to be discriminated against because school falls on the wrong day, pork is served, or cheer leaders show some leg.
The only thing discouraging science and engineering in the US is the public school system because its too hard and therefor not fair. We had an interview in the local paper recently where they talked about reducing the math test requirements because it wasn't "fair". Some have suggested the rigorous testing was "racist". How do you expect ANY education system to operate under the fear of being branded racist? Then top it off with the fact that some tenured teachers aren't worth squat but are untouchable means if our kid gets a good math teacher we chalk it up to luck.
The US is exploring space, we are just far past the mundane stuff. Mundane meaning landing on things we can see with the naked eye. We have put probes on planets other countries aren't even considering. Would that be a waste in your book because no one else is doing it? When it comes to the military, well our science and space exploration go hand in hand with technical innovations. Please don't tell me you do understand that this launch mechanism India developed can be easily adapted to deliver payloads anywhere on Earth as well. Its not like they have great relations with Pakistan and I do believe if we were not buying off both there have been some really rotten incidents already.
Frankly I am quite fine with the terrorist threat remaining nebulous, it was all too real a few years back.
Which society is better long term, the US is thank you. For every failing I can attribute to the US I can usually find them elsewhere as well. It just comes down to who is trying to score the points as to when its important or not.
This really just comes across as trying to portray the problem differently so they don't have to do it the hard way. In other words, its all about trying to find an out.
So, now they can lump another "crime" on the members instead of really going after what they are doing. Denial of the original issue?
It is no different than banning gang colors in schools, it ignores the problem by hiding it. I guess the Feds are now on that band wagon.
Whats next? Talking to them without preconditions?
Well the real problem is that he completely ignores the fact the for the most part the people who have them are rationale. Its the people who we read about trying to get them that throw his who idea into a ditch.
Congress upholds right of DHS to confiscate your stuff for 24 hours.
I know, but is anyone surprised. Really, gambling is in that same circle as cigarettes and alcohol. Somehow the states have held on to their rights to exclusive domain over them within their borders whereas they lost about every other regulatory ability to the feds.
Seriously, how many categories did he need? I guess he wanted ads.
The problem is, that for the target market it is horribly overpriced. This guy had to go out of his way to ignore all the similarly TARGETED machines that you can find in your Sunday circular for $500 to $800. Some of them even have discreet graphics at that price.
Better yet, everyone knows Dell is always on sale. You can find deals on any laptop maker other than Apple.
The real Mac tax is found when comparing targeted audience. In other words, the people who would love to have a laptop for light work. This the audience Apple misses completely by pricing themselves out of consideration.
I could probably find half a dozen laptops that would serve just as well, if not with more features, but they wouldn't look cool.
(fwiw I own an iMac, 2nd gen iPod, and 2nd gen Touch, and am awaiting the next gen iMac to come out)
85w usage versus four to six times that if using LCD/Plasma. LCD gets up there more than people like to think.
Fortunately for me DLP works out fine as I know the proper placement of furniture versus tv and windows so that there is never an image problem. It is not ideal for some but most homes any tv works out fine.
that and I like the fact my DLP weighs a lot less as well. Made positioning it easy and the newest units (mine uses an LED to drive the screen) are wall mountable too
Simply paid off. The majority lives off the minority who pays the bulk of the taxes. Income redistribution makes for some very lazy and apathetic people. There is nothing about fairness in a progressive tax, it is all about control.
the supposed adherents rarely live up to the ideals. The 9/11 bombers who supposedly were islamic through and through were known to visit strip clubs and the like.
Considering that some web traffic analysis shows large pornographic viewing in the middle east I wonder if it is our perception of what they consider wrong. Then again they might not think twice about female nudity.
Sorry, Steve was right, most new if not all HD recorders are USB.
Hell, I could not tell what they whining was loudest about, the fire wire or that the base aluminum macbook doesn't have a back lit keyboard (no macbook before this offered that feature anyway)
Fact is, people feel the need to be a victim or otherwise justify a decision for them. In other words, instead of admitting they had no wish to buy the new one (or means to) they can not blame Apple for not doing it. Very nice and tidy and common practice on message boards world wide. Besides getting to portray themselves as the victim they can get a sense of belonging with a possibly valid aggrieved party. It is always easier if you can blame someone else, regardless of the truth.
Yeah, it would nice nice if Firewire was there. However Firewire has always been associated with "Professional" and it has become an artifact of days gone by. Apple sunk FW themselves when they pushed USB to the forefront on iMacs and even with iPods now.
You want firewire, its easy to get, but the PRO line. It is only $400 more to the bottom end of the Pro line from the top of the "consumer" mac line.
Frankly, the new MacBooks are great. Some of the best integrated graphics seen on an Apple laptop. In fact the 9400M series removes a major reason people always held over Apple's head for not buying one before.
The real fault with the 13" Macbook is the viewing angles and color reproduction of that panel are horrible. Really cheaped out. So if you want your firewire and a great display get a Pro. After all if your buying an Apple laptop for more than sitting around Starbucks to look cool you would have gotten the Pro and never bitched
The mixture includes flocculants, which cause suspended solids, heavy metals and parasites to clump together. The resulting "floc" can then be filtered out with a cotton cloth. Time-released chlorine kills bacteria and viruses. Within 30 minutes, about a teaspoon of the powder can treat 2.5 gal. of water. "The visual improvement is dramatic," says Eric Mintz, chief of the CDC's diarrheal diseases and epidemiology section.
A flying car would not even compare to this, not even a flying car that gets 300 miles per gallon. Having grown up with Star Trek (original series) this too me is the closest to Star Trek I have seen. A powder to make water safe. Screw that silly looking three wheeler, this helps the world far more than any vehicle.
Uh, there is a lot to be upset about, but angry?
Nah, what it comes down to is that too many people take offense at things that do not directly or in many cases indirectly affect them. They just want the attention and its easy to jump on a popular bandwagon because they then feel they belong and see other people agreeing with them.

I was very surprised not to be able to find mention of it on Wikipedia, even under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_water_purification
It apparently never made it big in the news which is a disappointment, hopefully this "award" will give it its due
