Exactly. My mom, who can't stop the 12:00 from flashing on her VCR, got a Imac. Want to know how she manages her email addresses? She stores them on 3X5 index cards.:p
People have been taught that computers are inherently unstable, will often crash, are very complex machines that are basicly a house of cards. They have been fed the line that 'security is too hard!' so much they believe it.
They have STRICT warnings against this, and in their terms of service is the following.
(e) Character Name. In order to use the service, you must create a character and choose a name for your character to identify your character to other Members (your "Character Name"). You may not select as your Character Name the name of another person, or a name which violates any third party's trademark right, copyright, or other proprietary right, or which may mislead other players to believe you to be an employee of NC Interactive, or which NC Interactive deems at its sole discretion to be vulgar or otherwise offensive. NC Interactive reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to (1) delete or alter any Character Name or (2) terminate any license granted herein, for any reason whatsoever, including, without limitation, any suspected or actual infringement of any trademark or trade name right, copyright, or other proprietary right.

I have to stop looking at polls since they seem to inaccurate, and sometimes outright biased. Some sites, like www.electoral-vote.com will show Kerry leading by 30 votes in the electoral college one day, the next show him down 50. Obviously this isnt really happening, so something must be flawed.
OTher times, you see three different polls being about the same number, ie bush 47, Kerry 46, then one guy who's just out there, like Bush 65, kerry 32. Er...huh?
Then you get the poll companies that are part of the various political party. The repub's have one I know of, I bet the dems have one too.
I somehow fail to see the alarm in this. Yes, EA now owns a development tool. Thats nice. Its not like they have any control over the companies using it. They can't exactly say 'Stop developing a competing product or we will pull the plug.' Did Borland have control over companies that used its C compiler? At worst, they will just make future releases garbage, and many companies will switch over to another tool.
In retrospect, the special edition of ANH fortells this, with the Jawa being thrown around by some huge lizardlike steed, or Han stepping on Jabba's tail.
Not to be a Lucas Appologist, but I saw somewhere that the bit with Han stepping on Jabba's tail had to be done because of the way the scene was originaly filmed. In the original, Jabba was some fat guy in animal skins, and Han was walking around him. After they added the CGI Jabba, they realized the only way Han could walk around him would be to step on him, so they added that goofy grimace.

After hearing all the bad things about downloading real player, I decided just now to start the download process of the free version to see how bad the website actualy was.
I went to the website and glanced around for about 5 seconds, then clicked the link that said download. The next page was slightly confusing for about three seconds, before i saw the segment that said 'download free version'. Clicked that, then started my download.
I'm sorry, but I have to add in my two cents. The big problem I have with console gaming is that they are too dumbed down and simplistic to keep me entertained for more than a few hours. PC gaming generaly are far more complex and interesting, and are much more varied. You will never see games like Hearts of Iron (WWII strat game), or Falcon 4.0 (f-16 simulator) on a x-box.
And speaking of Falcon, you will never see a serious mod community on console games. The mod community for F4 has created some excelent mods and changes to the game that keep this old 6 year old title fresh and still playable.
Finaly, it is annoying to play a FPS with a gamepad. Give me a mouse for aiming any day.
I have not actualy tried this, but it sounds good in theory. Don't just lay the wires in the walls, but actualy place them in pvc piping or some other type of tubing. Why? Because down the road when you want to remove the old wires, you can just pull them out and have them not snag on anything like nails or wall studs. Even better, you can attach your new cables to the old ones with tape or something, and as you are removing the old wires you will be pulling the new ones inside the pipe to immediately take over.
This program is an excelent, free space simulator. Fly the Apollo 11 mission, launch the space shuttle and dock at ISS, or for real fun, launch a probe from earth, have it gravity assist around venus, and go out to the outer planets. The physics seems very realistic and real world. Math will for sure be a huge help in this.
The main site is Here, and also check out Dan's ORbiter page, with many great addons and sound updates here. For a great video of orbiter in action (But without any view of the controls or the mathmatics involved) check out video 3 from this page.
have you thought about trying to be a SA? A good SA has coding skills, which you do, and if you use unix at all at home, and know how to troubleshoot and do basic maintance like patching and installs, the move over to Sys Admining should be fairly easy. Still going to be a need for SA's.
I would have to say Origin's Autoduel had the best extra of any game. Forget HHG2TG with its silly sunglasses and empty bag, try getting a small toolkit in your computer game. Just the perfect thing to take apart your computer and fix problems with. It came with a small (ok, mostly useless) wrench, a few VERY usefull screwdrivers, philips and flathead, and I think a small hammer. I used that toolkit for ages until it got lost in a move.
I think a lot of it is 'greener grass' syndrome. Here in NYC, we hear its better elsewere. Out there, they think NYC is the better place to be. Like I said in my first post, be prepared to move, because you just might have to.
After a 7 month period of no job, i can say it is rough out there. The tech companies in my area are VERY picky now about who they hire, and they pay a LOT less. I knew of one big financial firm that wanted a webmaster/developer/Unix SA and were willing to pay 35k for it, and that was the upper max.
Also, be prepared to move to different parts of the country. From what I hear, Silicon Valley isnt so hot any more, but other areas, like Conn. and Raleigh/Durham, NC are much better.
Short of WWII with Japan there has never been a nuclear attack on anyone from anyone in the world. Yet we as americans with our democratic control are responsible for this destruction of property and life, and we did it through our research and science.
Let us not forget that during WWII the targeting of cities and civilians was the norm, starting with Japan's bombing of Shanghi, and the German bombing of Rotterdam and London. Later in the war, with air superiority virtualy allied, huge waves of bombers pounded axis cities day and night. The Americans, with their superior Norden bombsites were able to do daylight bombing, while the British had to resort to nightime city bombing. Attack the workers while they work, and attack them while they sleep. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was only different in that one bomber commited all the destruction, as opposed to hundreds of bombers. Indeed, the two bombings using atomic weapons killed less than some of the other bombings of the war, such as the firebombings of Dresden, Hamburgh and Tokyo.
I always get a bit irritated by people who demand that the U.S. appologise for using atomic weapons, because they don't know their history. The invasion of Okinawa cost 48,000 American casualties, and close to 200,000 Japanese casualties (Including civilians). And that was just the begining. The human cost of an invasion of Japan was estimated to be over a million lives. While the loss of 100,000 lives in the two bombed cities was bad, it would have been much much worse for the Japanese had the United States NOT used the bomb.

The real reason Concorde failed was that it carried too few passengers, used too much fuel and protectionism in the US blocked landing at the major airports until the consortium stopped manufacture.
Lets not forget the fact that the thing would SHATTER WINDOWS flying over the continental US. Sonic booms do damage, which is why there is a max speed airplanes can fly over the US. As it were, the concord had to make a series of turns before landing at NYC to slow down, and prevent sonic booms from causing damage to all the houses.
