since this is being decided without the customers really having a choice, I say lets find solutions.
maybe this data will be fed through specific servers, why then, we may be able to edit a hosts file to fix it.
if its more complex like feeding through the game itself, maybe a mod can be made to change the ads to something moe interesting.
I for one, say hack the living hell out of their code, crack the software and let people make their own choices.
if its too intrusive, then stop playing the game.
I for one rarely go to the movies now because of the ads. I normally just buy a dvd later on since its cheaper and my home system is good enough for me. I'll change my gaming habits as well, but if its a game I really like, you bet I'll start cutting code pieces until I get that crap disabled, DMCA be damned, they have my 50 bucks.
UT2k3 comes with a free version of Maya so you can make 3d models (essential to level design) and a great editor.
I have also found the UT2k3 community to be very helpful with questions, and there are tons of tutorials out there.
I didn't start with this, I think the first level I ever made may have been in a wad for doom, but I will say the stuff they have available for UT2k3 has come a long way.
I highly recommend getting this and studying it, its a great way to learn the process without all the hassles of random crashes and compile errors.
With for instance the Quake 3 engine, you would need to wait a few minutes to . ..ahem . . a couple hours to get the levels to compile.
With UT2k3, the levels compile quickly and effectively, usually in the span of a minute or two.
This is good for learning (I feel anyways) because you can see what your changes did to the level right away, and helps you to get used to the environment and how your tools effect it.
Well, hope this was a useful answer, and to everyone else out there creating levels, understand this was written to recommend something to begin on, and something that has extensibility, and this engine has both.
I got one thing from this article, one great quote. And even if the writer thought the question was answered further on, it wasn't. ..
"But isn't part of this country's vitality its ability to make these kinds of changes?" I counter. "We've done it before - going from farm to factory, from factory to knowledge work, and from knowledge work to whatever's next."
She looks at me. Then she says, "I'd like to know where you go from knowledge."
This is the great problem, there is nothing for us to do at this point. And one thing nobody ever seems to consider, all this free trade, means no taxes, which means no money to our country, which means less money to fund these fat cats in washington, who keep spending billions on the 'war on drugs' and the 'war on terrorism'. I say legalize the drugs, tax em, and then HEY we have an exportable product, and if not; you may be out of work, but at least you can smoke some dope and forget about it.
okay, end of rant
Well, I for one found the article intriguing, I remember the first time I went from my NEC 8080 to a mac and was like 'what is this weird square thing with the button?'.
I actually giggled out loud (my roomate probably thinks I am insane) when I read the description of the mouse.
hee hee hee.
boy how times have changed, nowadays if someone doesn't know what a mouse is, you think their insane!
This article gives a little history
a quick search on ebay reveals:
link!
so will they attack ebay?
or what about:
link again!
It seems pretty obvious it's a pointless endeavour.
There are tons of sites out there where you can get original, uncut hong kong, chinese, japanese etc movies.
The funny thing is, I prefer getting the movies when they come out on dvd, not waiting 2 or 3 YEARS to see them when some distributor in the US picks them up and decides to sell them.
So, does google.com have to remove all instances of HERO from their system? I think not.
Just because Miramax got the rights to the film, does not mean they can stop someone from distributing a version that was previously released. If they cared that much, they should have funded the production as far as I'm concerned.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the amount of attition that has been occuring in the tech support industry in India as seen here. Or if the attacks on the H1-B visas is making corporations worried.
I have a magneto oprtical scsi array at my house witha few discs. I found that as reliable as the machine was, I did end up getting bad disks sometimes. after about a year of using this machine as a backup server for small files (it only held 1.3 gigs total) one of the drives died in the machine. the funny thing is, I have a hard drive from 1993 that still works fine and dandy. I found the magneto disks just seemed to go bad over time and when my drive blew it was completely not worth the money to fix. If I bought a new magento drive, it would cost over a thousand dollars to replace for this model. I think for 650 megs of storage I'll burn 2 cd roms for 20 cents and keep em in seperate locations.
so yeah, magneto optical is dead in my view, too expensive and its really not any more reliable than anything else out there.
well, as for full sail, I've been there, its pretty impressive, but I wouldn't pay to go there. I can learn more from just sitting at home, with Maya PLE and making models for UT2k3 while getting a real programming degree. I have known a few folks go to full sail and come back 2 quarters later disinterested and owing lots of money. I don't recommend it unless you want to learn a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't matter in the overall scheme of things.
uggghhh now this just sucks

Matrix MMORPG

· Score: 1
after playing Enter the Matrix, I had hoped they would have given up on any matrix-like games and leave them to the modders out there.
now this is something that seriously interests me I am in the process of doing a little mod for UT2k3, but after that, I think this is where most of my modding is going to go. Fallout has got to be one of my all time favorite games. you can get my info at killall-9.org, the site is extremely old, but my info is still correct and checked.
"How can games like Quake III which teaches kids how to slaughter their schoolfriends and promotes a satanistic agenda possibly be acceptable ?"
Quake 3 does not promote a satanic agenda, it certainly has hell-based propaganda, however it is not in anyway satanic, other than being fun.
Go to www.churchofsatan.com and read up on satanism before you propagate your christian biased agenda.
"With games such as Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament being directly responsible for the Columbine massacre, I think this change in emphasis could only be a good thing."
Where is your evidence that these games had a direct influence on the kids involved in this?
Maybe you need to read a bit more, stay away from television, and actually attempt to verify facts before making statements.
It is knee-jerk reactionists like you that cause things such as the Crusades, The Salem Witch Trials, and The Black Listing of so-called communists. Rhetoric such as this is pathetic and unwarranted, think before you speak, otherwise you simply look foolish.
when I got it, we ran norton 2002 with latest patches on it, we got no viruses, of course I did not get it off any of the slashdot links, I got it on friday through usenet
well I got it to see how my system will run the game when it comes out. I know its not optimized yet, and is buggy, so remember that these are extremely preliminary numbers.
I am running:
asus TUSL2-C celeron 1.2 OCed to 1.4 (tualatin) PNY geforce 4 ti 4200 OCed to 4400 512 MB Crucial PC 133 RAM
results:
I average 10-20 FPS in most instances, when multiple zombies or imps come at me, the FPS can slow down to 2 or even 0
the game is beautiful and I will buy it when it comes out, once I get the beta and the demo of course, and optimize my system for the games release;-)
I am rather pleased though, I figured my system would just choke on it since its not a god box, but it was able to at least run the game.
I have tried other alphas in the past and my experience has always been that performance was about 1/3 of real gameplay. So once the real game comes out, I expect to get a huge boost in performance.
I'm sure all the guys at ID aren't too happy, but they should understand that us folks that like to tweak systems, are more or less not getting this to play the game, but to get our systems ready for when the game actually hits the shelves.:-)
you will find quite a few things are different with OSX versus run of the mill linux or BSD.
I have found PERL to be quite a bit different, which means hours of looking up special commands sometimes to get things to work correctly.
I love OSX though for a few reasons, its easy to configure, it runs fairly stable. . . etc.
I say go for it, you will love having an apple laptop. I am in the process of getting an old IBM laptop working as a wireless workstation with BSD, there will be a page about it someday. . .

I don't care if it uses XP.
I don't care if it has fans.
the big deal here is that you can have all your vst plugins going on without dragging a laptop or a rack computer.
I just hope its got some serious insulation and waterproofing so you could use it on gigs.
I have seen damage from fog machines in laptops and in racks, so hopefully they thought of this.

I guess I will never get my fill of Fallout 3.
so sad. so sad.
It kind of reminds me of duke (vaporware) nukem

where did you get that!!!!!???? .
I wonder if that is his attorney for sure though. . .

yep, actually me and my buddies got to check it out on a radion 9700, geforce 4 ti 4200, 4400 and a 4600
:-)
all the systems were running athlon XPs 1600 - 2400 +s
I unfortunately have a celery 1.2 oced to 1.4 and a geforce 4 ti 4200 oced to 4400 specs
it did actually work though, and runs decent considering.
so yes lots of folks have this kind of hardware, in fact ALL of my friends do
I can't wait til this comes out, I wanna buy my copy NOWWWW
logical reason, just remember they already let their competition see all of this at e3, even though they didn't have the code to reverse engineer. . ..
