    If the experience in Egypt [scientificamerican.com] is instructive -- and I believe it is -- look for massive looting to begin shortly.

    The article states that these sites are already being looted, with LIDAR showing "thousands" of pits having been dug, and that while unknown to researchers, they are obviously not unknown to locals. They hope to raise awareness of the problem.

    As a self employed contractor software subscriptions are killing my business.

    The Cost of Office 365 small business is $12.50/month. That includes Exchange, Office, Skype, OneDrive. The cost for Office 365 on its own is ~$8.75/month.

    No one is preventing you from purchasing Office outright, but the simple fact is that if you cannot afford $12.50 per employee/month for them to have email connectivity and an office suite, then you need to rethink your business planning. May I ask what you do about their telephone access?

    Apple's neglect of the Mac (and particularly the disregard of the enterprise space) not withstanding, when I look at this list I can't really help but admit that there is not a single entry on it where I would rather use Apple's tools in favor of their open source equivalent.

    Why would they lower the price while demand is equal or outstripping supply? It’s funny since people like you say this about Apple with every new model and yet they blow away previously sales records nearly ever year. Does it ever tire to be so wrong?

    Dude, we are literally in a thread where the topic of discussion is that at this year's CES, which for a significant period of time seemed to be almost totally focused on apple and their ecosystem, is now wholly focused on technology from apple competitors.

  15. I am not saying this is entirely "fake news". That rarely exists whole-cloth, but just look into it a little closer when it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

    The US government, and by extension the media sources that make their money by having cooperative contacts within it, got pissed off at Kaspersky for exposing their dirty Stuxnet secrets. Double points for Kaspersy being Russian at a time when anything remotely critical of Trump is made of ad impression gold.


    Oh look, an AC shilling for Russia who wants us to know the whole thing is just fake news from Fox-owned WSJ (another hit job on Trump, amirite?), and even if it isn't fake news it's probably just the US government having a tantrum about Stuxnet.     I'm going to stop you right there, because, like most Americans I am pretty centrist as well. And I get called "extreme left" by the those on the right, ironically because they have moved so far right they can no longer even gauge what is where anymore, and I also get called "right-wing" by pretty much any liberal under 30, because I believe that the world is not black and white and there is nuance in everything.

    Both angles, both sides: if you don't toe the line, you're the problem, and everyone is the extremist fanatic except them.

    What???? How about people just stop buying products from companies that adopt anti-consumer policies? Apple doesn't have a monopoly on smart phones.

    Well, being that an informed consumer is considered necessary for optimal functioning of the free market, in lieu of such legislation, I guess maybe we could simply mandate that Apple broadly advertise this repair policy, and not in fine print, upon the purchase of every device. Would that satisfy you?
