you can stabilize yourself in the air before you pull your chute, to keep from getting tangled up
they could probably do it just like a c-130 static line jump, but w/o the static lines. just get everybody to line up nice and tight, and spew out the door. stabilize in the air, pull chute, land safely.
umm, read the article. here, i'll quote it for you: "Gasson, who is known for leaping from planes without wearing his parachute (he's done this 16 times, taking a mid-air parachute handoff from a fellow 'chutist)..."
try the dancing wu li masters. (amazon.com or half.com). it is an excellent book for learning the concepts behind classical and modern physics without worrying about the math or the specific details.
after that, *then* read a brief history of time.
after reading both of those, if you still want to know more of the details, take a physics class at the local community college.
Both the M4 and M4A1 uses the attachment rail system. I'm not understanding the advantages of the CQWS. The diopter sight sounds just like an AimPoint. I'd appreciate additional information. It sounds interesting.
The M16 is the original. It did not have a forward assist, and had a three-prong flash supressor, and triangle handguards. It is capable of Safe | Semi | Auto.
The M16A1 came out a few years later, with a teardrop-style forward-assist, a birdcage flash supressor, triangle handguards, and Safe | Semi | Auto capability.
The M16A2 came out approximately 20 years later, and has a birdcage flash suppressor without ports on the bottom to prevent a defensive position from leaving a signature. It has rounded handguards, a longer butt-stock, a heavier barrel with a faster twist rate to accommodate heavier ammunition, and is capable of Safe | Semi | Burst. It has some other features, too, which distinguish it from the M16 and M16A1 (like the brass deflector, different sights and a different forward assist).
The M16A3 is identical to the M16A2 except it has a removable carrying handle with the Picatinny Rail System and is capable of Safe | Semi | Auto.
The M16A4 is identical to the M16A3 except it is Safe | Semi | Burst.
The M4 Carbine is a carbine version of the M16A4. It has a 14.5" barrel instead of a 20" one. It has a four-position collapsable butt-stock. The barrel is notched to accomodate the M203 grenade launcher. There are some other technical differences that I don't know too well, dealing with feed ramps, etc. It is capable of Safe | Semi | Burst.
The M4A1 Carbine is the carbine version of the M16A3. It is used almost exclusively by Special Operations Units, and is identical to the M4 except it is capable of Safe | Semi | Auto.
And there's probably about a bajillion other differences in pin sizes, hammer configuration, auto sear, and who knows what else that I left out due to ignorance, but that don't matter too much.
I'm a social dancer myself, and believe it or not most of the people I go out with are engineers or engineering majors. There's the occaisional geoscience grad student or art major, but by and large most of the dancers I know either are or were electrical engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering majors. Its actually quite suprising that most of the dancers I know are geeks.
On another note, I also highly recommend Shall We Dance. Its amusing, its fun, the music in it is great.
Then you should probably write (dead-tree, snail-mail version) to your representatives and senators, and tell them exactly that (minus the "sit here and grumble" part). Tell them you want your taxes either directed to all religions equally, or to none of them.
Then get all your friends who feel the same way to do the same. And all their friends. And advertise it to people you don't know.
Then, when your congressmen get thousands of letters saying this, they might bring it up in Congress and it might eventually change the system.
And I can assure you, by the sheer fact that Muslim and Jewish and Mormon and Catholic Chaplains exist in the US Military, and get paid equally and receive the same support from the government, that our government does in fact allocate funds to non-Christian religious institutions.
You've got a good point about fallable people abusing money, if even inadvertantly. However, I'm sure there are quite a few people being taxed who might offer the opposite viewpoint of yours: "If they're going to take my money, they had best not be putting it into an organization that conflicts with my religious beliefs."
And so, in order to acheive your idea of "the status quo: a society with real religious (and secular) freedom", the government should be funding neither sectarian nor secular organizations if they're in the same trade. In example, the government should either fund none of the alcoholism recovery programs, or it should fund all of them equally if there's even one in there with a different set of religious beliefs (or non belief) from any other one.
Atryn's post needs to get modded up. His interpretation is essentially what the First Amendment says about religion.
In addition to what he said, however, the government cannot legally create a program which specifically benefits secular organizations over sectarian ones, either. That would be discriminating against a religious org.
wow. after reading all this praise for the nexII, between in this article, in slashdot's review, and in dmusic's reveiw (the first place i check for mp3 player reviews), i'm pretty sure i'm going to buy one in the next couple of months.
My RioVolt skips on me if I go *walking* at a semi-fast pace. And that's when it's sitting in my backpack, nice and insulated, rather than tight on my body.
Besides, a CD player is a HUGE device, when you're going on a decent run. You want something smaller, like a solid-state player.
Easy: Drink only water, which means you have to wash your cup/glass less often. Also means lower caloric intake, and more money saved, benefitting both your health and your pocketbook.
Use only a handful of plates, total. Wash when you finish eating, not when its convenient. It only takes a minute if not less.
Use dishes out of the dish strainer rack, instead of out of the cupboard. A little bit of water on your plate won't hurt your cheeseburger.
Honestly, its sentences like this where it really matters if you use "there" vs "their."
I honestly thought, the first few times I read it, that it was referring to somebody's mate, like girlfriend or wife, as opposed to "hey there, mate, that's not a light... now that's a light."
Well, I never mod anything up that's already at three, four, or five. I only mod up stuff at zero, one, and two. (Usually just ones and twos, though). I almost never mod down, because I can count on someone else to mod down something that truly deserves it.
Finally, if you don't like how stuff is getting moderated, metamod
"and in the fire was what looked like living creatures... their legs were straight, their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze... all four of them had faces and wings" (Eze 1:5-8).
"I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly" (John 10:10b).
Actually, that's part of the point. If we don't have a clue what it looks like, we might not recognize it. If we look for what we're familiar with, we're more likely to recognize it.
Just because we're looking for situations similar to ours doesn't mean we'll find it. It also doesn't mean they're *not* looking for different situations (say, Mars or Europa).
Umm, no. They don't use the built-in ROM applications. They use the same DB as the built-in ROM applications. If you install Action Names or DateBk, and use a ROM editor to remove the Palm Datebook from ROM, DateBk or Action Names will still work fine.
Its kinda like saying vi and emacs are both extensions to pico, because data entered with vi or emacs can still be read with pico. In all actuality, though, they simply use the same format for writing files so that if you wrote it in one, its readable in the other.
I've had to restore a backup to my palm Vx, while fiddling with editing the rom, and trying to uninstall a rom patch, etc. but it was only once.
other than that, including my fiddling with hacks and the rom, its only crashed (requiring a soft-reset) 3 or 4 times (in six months), all withing a couple of days, and only once requiring a hard reset (the time described above)
Actually, research (http://www.r3mix.net) has shown that even audiophiles with high-quality equipment aren't any better than joe-schmoe who is random-guessing which is MP3 and which is original CD, when using LAME-encoded 256kbit MP3s.
So it's not just "unless you are an audiophile..." It's everybody, including audiophiles.
But that's not the important part. One of the biggest benefits of SACD isn't higher quality music than regular CDs, actually, is that SACD can encode 5.1 channel surround-sound audio, as opposed to the 2-channel stereo regular CDs can.
The big advantage is that you can hear the cello centered behind you, the bandoneon moving counter-clockwise around you starting at your forward-right, the guitar off to your left moving clockwise around you, and the pianist to your rear-left, all in DVD-quality audio (even though you can't tell its better than CD) while you milonga the night away with a beautiful lady.
I'd imagine this recruitment thing is similar to getting Airborne and Ranger school in your contract when you enlist.
What happens is that you go to Basic and AIT, then you go to Airborne holdover until they have an open slot for you. After you graduate Airborne school (if you do), you go on to RIP (the Ranger Indoctrination Program) after which, assuming you pass, you go on to a Ranger Battalion and piddle your thumbs until you get promoted to Specialist (E-4).
Then, once you've got the rank and if you're still in the necessary physical shape, they send you through a Pre-Ranger prep course and then onto Ranger School, to return to your unit Ranger qualified, instead of some 5-jump chump sitting around at bat.
Essentially, I'm assuming you'll get SF in your contract, go to BCT and AIT, Airborne holdover, Airborne, some sort of pre-SF training, and then piddle around in an SF unit until you make SGT (E-5), when you can finally go through the SF Qualification Course, which you still have to pass before you become an SF soldier.
This is, of course, all assuming that you're enlisting. If you're commissioning, you don't get to choose your MOS, and you have to apply for SF once you're on the CPT (O-3) list just like everyone else.
the point isn't that the program refuses to run if ad-aware is installed. its that it removes ad-aware if its installed. two very different ideas. nobody would care much if it said "oops, ad-aware is on this computer, you must remove it before you can install this application" and then quits.
another issue would simply be this: if they want their software to only be removed via the add/remove programs, then they should prompt you to use *that* method to remove ad-aware, not to do the hypocritical thing and remove ad-aware without your knowledge/explicit permission/desire/request.
