  1. Re:Support legislation for criminalization of this on 3.9 Million Citigroup Customers' Data Lost · · Score: 2, Insightful

You forget who makes the laws. That's right--the megaconglomerates.

You thought slavery ended 150 years ago? We are all slaves now to corporate America. Our lives are bought and sold on a daily basis, and this is just one example.

Every time you use your grocery discount card, pay with a credit card, or send off for that rebate, some company is making money on your personal information.

It is definitely time for changes, but who will make them? Do you think your congressman gives a crap about you? He's not going to change the laws that go against the corporations funding his re-election campaign.

The only way to way to evoke legal changes is to vote every single one of those corrupt bastards out of office and then immediately change the laws, and then change the laws affecting term limitations and campaign finance to keep them from serving in Congress until they're 100 years old. What good is a 100 year-old senile bastard in government?

  2. Dear Bill on Your Chance to Meet Bill Gates · · Score: 1

I really love Winders. My passion is sending spam email for prescriptions, fake watches, mortgages, and pron sites.

Winders "security" makes it so easy to add new zombies to my smtp proxy network so I can send spam virtually untraceable. Since most users are too ignorant or oblivious to care, I can compromise unpatched Winders hosts within minutes.

Thanks a lot also for making it so easy to spam Hotmail accounts with that shotgun regex account-matching system. I can just make up random email addresses and Hotmail delivers it to the closes matching accounts.

Thanks for all the good work Microsoft. Thanks for continuing to expand your product and service line in all areas rather than focusing on fixing bugs and critical security issues in current products. Without you, I'd be out of business.

I make so much money I'd like to share some with you. I'm going to send $500K, but I only have a cashiers check for $1M. Could you go ahead and send me a check for the difference now.

But where does one begin in self-taught mathematics today? I like to dabble in everything, but it seems the field is expanding in so many directions it would be impossible to get exposure to all aspects.

15 years ago, I was good at applied physics and calculus. 10 years ago I was still good at statistics. Today, my math skills are probably at a college algebra level.

I have lots of math texts, but I don't really want to reread them all. What's the best exposure path for someone who would rather be a mathematician than corporate slave? I don't really trust the universities to have my best interests at heart.

Larry Ellison may be good at business, be he sure isn't very ethical. This is a very cold, uncaring move to dominate a market.

We tend to think that we're so much better off today than we were hundreds of years ago in the fiefdoms, where battles to dominate a 'territory' were fought by swords and loyalty was bought with title. Don't fool yourself. This was a battle for territory like any other.

    Things aren't so different today:

    • fiefdoms are now corporations
    • multi-nationals are nation-states
    • battles are fought on the economic landscape
    • loyalty is bought with cash
    • the one with the most cash is king
