I think before they start working on new features in 2.6.xx, they should concentrate on making it more stable. I've never had much luck with getting a 2.6.xx kernel running smoothly on any machine I own. There are always mouse issues, video issues, and kernel panics. So for now I am sticking with 2.4.xx kernels which are extremely stable and "just work" with my c. 2000 hardware.
Great Start Trek reference. I have all "Funny" stuff modded down, but this really was funny. Thanks!

If you check your preferences you will notice that you can block stories from the homepage on various topics, including Apple stories. Any "hardcore computer nerd" worth his salt would have noticed this immediately.
Good luck canceling you account. They kept me on the phone for about 30 minutes trying to stay with them. The lady was very angry with me because I just kept saying, "No, I just want to cancel." There is no easy way to cancel and AOL account other than by phone, although I guess you can write them a letter and send it snail mail, but that could take months.
One of my old supervisors would send me emails and I would correct the grammar, then send it back to her without even answering whatever question she had asked me. Poor grammar and spelling is okay in an informal setting such as Slashdot or personal emails, but I expect professional correspendence to be just that.. professional.
Bill, I know you are going to get flamed up one side and down the other for this post, but you are dead right. Believe it or not, most people still don't know jack about computers. People might recognize that Windows exists on their computer, but how many really understand what it is? At work we use several prgrams run throught a terminal emulator. People at work have no idea why you can't click on the the stuff in the Window, they have no idea that they are running a program off a server 1000 miles away under a completely different OS. I'm not a big Windows fanboy by any means, but Linux is nowhere near Windows from the newbie persepective and won't be any time soon.
And what's up with the BSA? Where do they get all their power? It's almost as if they are a government agency. This is what happens when we let the lobbyists write our laws.
This is a good point. It makes me wonder how much of that $29 billion is actually lost sales.
I also wonder how much of this $29 billion comes from people just not understanding the concept of licensing agreements. They think that if you purchase a disc, you can install that disc on any computer you own. I've had a hard time convincing people that you can only install Office on one computer (unless you buy a site lisence or something). They think they can just buy the disc and install in anywhere, but technically they are in the wrong. Most people don't see this as piracy and never will and I agree with them.
This is why I also agree that nothing could be better for the open source community than strictly enforced DRM regulations. Once it becomes harder to steal Windows than it is to install Linux, people will come around.
If it means I can travel around in a beat up old spaceship with a grizzled old ex-cop, an androgenous pre-teen ubergeek, a super-smart corgi, and an extra fine woman with guns, amnesia, and a gambling problem... then I'm all for it!
To me the tubes look like canyons with sand dunes in the bottom. There are very similar structures on Earth that look almost identical. My point was that those people hold themselves up to be experts, but they are usually nothing of the sort. And what really gets me is when they have guests on Coast to Coast AM and they introduce them as a scientist. Just because you are a physicist doesn't mean you know anything about Martian geology. This might come as a shock to some of you, but scientists are only experts in the very limited fields in which they study. For example, an expert in minerology might know next to nothing about hydrogeology even though they are both part of Geology. So unless a so called expert is talking about a field that they are directly involved in, they are probably not an expert at all.
I agree. While I believe that remote sensing techniques can certainly show things like what it supposedly in these pictures, don't let someone tell you they are an expert and then believe them on that basis. If everyone did that then we'd believe all the nonsense that Richard Hoagland preaches about glass tubes on Mars and vast superstructures on the Moon.
Asimov actually wrote several robot stories where robots go crazy. One was on Mercury where the extreme heat made one go crazy.. sounds kinda like this movie.
You mean the recharge socket?
Everyone knows that aliens invented the IC.

When I shop at Best Buy, I'm only going to use $3 Santa Clause bills.
Completely off topic, but why do CoralCaches never seem to work?

I think these shows prove that no one gives a damn about watching robots play sports.

..a Sinclair ZX-81. People said, "No, Holly, she's not for you." She's cheap, she's stupid, and she wouldn't load - well, not for me, anyway.
Pfssst.... (gulp)(gulp) I new that... (gulp)(gulp) ...aaahhhhh.
Shatner was born in Canada so he can't be president of the US.

Actually, I'm responding to your sig.. Republicans == Democrats, or didn't you know? I mean, they're all paid by the same lobbyists.
you're gonna regret that...
Is he ever! I remember back when 1.2 GB hard drives came out and my roommate got one. I told him straight out, "You'll never be able to use that up."
Flash forward to 2002 when I ordered a 60 GB drive thinking, I'll never be able to fill this up.
A few days ago I ordered a 200 GB drive because my 60 GB is full.
