that is the game logic source, or some such. useful for making mods, but having the source code to the graphics engine allows for much more freedom. for example, there are now quake engine 2 mods that load quake 3 maps with all of the eyecandy of quake 3. this is possible only because the engine for quake 2 has been gpl'ed.

perhaps the quake 3 engine source will be released. seening how past id games have been opensourced once the new id engine is out and on the prowl.
Dimes and quarters aren't made of silver anymore; precisely because they would be worth more than their face value as raw materials. Something similar happened when a penny became worth more for its copper- it's now mostly zinc sandwiched between a thin copper coating.
The only area of the hardware where PS1 beat the N64 was storage media. This was critical though, as both game length and music quality were affected by it. However, the best games for N64 are much better than the the best ones for PS1 (with the possible exception of Castlevania:Symphony of the Night), and the PS1 never produced realtime 3d graphics to equal even Mario 64, much less later games that used the memory pak.
Also, the examples you cite raised the bar in the console world. Super Mario Kart for being a playable game that made heavy use of the SNES' "mode 7" abilities (really just hardware scaling and rotation), and StarFox for containing a primitive 3d accelerator in the cartridge.
Perhaps even more "ironic", since your home town is generally expected to support you to a degree greater than your home state. Btw, this is not actual irony, which is defined as the contrasting of what is with what appears to be. It is, however, rather embarassing for Bush.
You are merely restating the grandparent post in a way that sounds contrary. The recurring sentiment is, the medium is not the message. This is most definitely false, as even a moment's thought will reveal that there is no medium that doesn't affect its message to some degree.
So, to summarize: While it's a great antitheft idea, showing copies of art in a museum defeats the purpose of having museums.
Because it allows for the following exploit (which has been seen in the wild, btw)
1) Create law that states a formerly innocuous act is now a crime.
2) Lock up people who commit that act and deny them the ability to change the law by virtue of their guilt.
3) Profit!
Bottom line, if the point of having prisons is to rehabilitate people, then any punishments administered by those prisons should end at some point. And really, don't you know about the electoral college? The presidential vote doesn't count anyway. Who cares if felons can do it or not? Let them have their fun!
what would stop the student from loading google news through an http proxy that has uncensored access to google and mirroring the content inside the firewall?
Soulseek (which I presume you are talking about) tempts users to fund their software by selling queue privileges. Since adding certain features (such as multisource downloads) would make queue privileges less valuable, you can be certain that these features will never appear in Soulseek. Furthermore, it is misleading to call Soulseek a P2P upgrade, when it connects to a centralized server, which hasn't been the norm since Napster. While it is touted as "decentralized", the regular connection failures due to being "unable to connect to server", followed by a notice on the homepage saying, "The server is back up!" tell me otherwise.
I like soulseek a lot, but exciting new peer to peer technology it isn't.
Of course, this may have something to do with the fact that:
The largest ed2k server has 265.5 million files. Most bittorrent trackers have only one.
With bittorrent, everyone you see is attempting to get the same file, and sharing only that file. On ed2k, people may be sharing/downloading any number of files.
Lastly, with bittorrent,as soon as the tracker goes down, you're hosed. As long as even one person is sharing the complete file on any ed2k server, you will eventually get the file.
For selection and reliability, use emule. For new releases that are unavailable elsewhere, use bittorrent if you must (although edonkey rivals bittorrent when a file is supported by a dedicated releaser...)
It will be complete bloatware after 6.0, going from a lightweight OS that can be installed on a 3 MB rom image to an eyecandy "click the pretty button" monstrosity that constantly pops up FMV clips.
It is terribly convenient that these "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" wait until Kerry runs for president to unleash their irrepressible outrage at his dishonorable actions.
That said, I think all politicians are people who are too lazy to work for a living, so they cloak themselves in civic duty while they steal from the working public. Make your own choice about who to vote for, and remember it is irrelevant if it contradicts the enclave known as the Electoral College.
I am of the opinion (feel free to disagree) that a person who has never served in the military should not be put in charge of it. This makes past military service relevant when it comes to choosing a president.
i've never had anyone enter my room without permission
I'm fairly certain that in spite of your anecdotal evidence, investigation will reveal that the administration reserves the right to do just that. Whereas, most leases guarantee the right to quiet enjoyment of your living space without unauthorized intrusion by your landlord.
Living on campus is a money racket for colleges. Rent housing in a nearby ghetto (there's always one) and get broadband. You'll enjoy yourself much more not living beneath the college administration's thumb, you'll receive a basic instruction in how things work, and you may not even need roommates to pay for your dwelling.
Also, consider downloading scans of textbooks and auditing classes, if you are a college student on a minimal budget (you will not receive credit for audited classes, but some of us value knowledge for its own sake, as opposed to knowledge as a means of obtaining a piece of paper with a seal of approval on it.)

I agree. I would never pay for steam, but I might pay a premium for a copy of the game that isn't crippled by it.
I wonder if there's any way to make the hologram resulting from that mirror sphere (actually more of a disc) larger than the actual object.

Of course they will be less expensive for the same reasons Winmodem are less expensive than hardware modem
You mean they'll be half-assed imitations made for the purpose of bilking those who don't know better than to buy them?
