I'm not sure, but back in the days when I worked as a programmer making a poker game (before the craze broke out about online gaming) I was constantly feeling numb about the whole programming deal spending some of my days just surfing around feeling kinda worthless to the company and that in turn made me feel kinda worthless too in the long run.
About 7 years ago I started working in craft, with tile laying (bathrooms etc), and I never had a bad day. Sure some days are tough but when the day is done I always feel like I made a difference, and I'm not mentally exhausted when I get home, so I could for instance do some programming for fun or whatever.
It's not true for everyone of course, I know plenty of people that can handle it, but for me it seems like the more work I get done the better I feel. And with my job I can make other people happy, that kinda helps. With IT you are just making people less miserable.
but if you check the age of these cards, when they were cutting edge, you might look back 3 years, right?
and 3 years is prob. what it takes to develop a AAA title, so you should prob. get the fattest card out there today and develop for it, because when your game hits the market, that's the card people will have.
nothing wrong with having a cut down version of the options in the game to allow older cards, but if I were to code a game, I'd do it with ps3 shaders and tons of ram.
And what do you think will happen when all rich countries will buy bananas from africa? This happens with all kinds of food already, this aint good news for the poor people of africa.
One of the funnier party themes I heard of (not one that I attended unfortually) was one where they had a futuristic theme. They dressed up in black and silver and stuff like that, call it "50 years from now" or something. A costume party with a theme! And with all you nerds, I think it'll be very creative too with smashed motherboards and diods:-)
No we won't
GLSL quick reference is pretty much all you need printed on your desk when writing vertex/pixel shaders :-)
yeah, yeah. seen that. ment instead of making a new movie, they should make a new and shiny tv-series if any!
yeah, the HHGTTG would been much better as a mini tv-series.
well I was making a joke. sorry if you didn't get it :-)
for open source! ;-)
well there's an easy fix for your mother-in-law, just install windows and chrome will run just fine. ... oh wait

gmail treats name@gmail.com equal to n.a.m.e@gmail.com etc... I suppose you could figure out where I'm going with this...

Late night rand, gotta sleep :-) (.se)
slashdot can add avatars!
They work to the opposites.
Teach your kid computers and you don't have to worry about STD's.
Teach your kid about condoms and you don't have to worry about him messing around with computers.
jk.
do you really think the price of photoshop elements is too high? the only thing you'll miss will be the CMYK support (if you'll miss it at all).
and it also works under wine (5.0 running here under latest crossover office).
I don't know how much elements goes for but where I live it costs ~160 dollars (990 sek) and I bought it just to feel "free"...
btw I switched to linux just to either do that or pay for windows...
And you want to suggest linux users to do what exactly?
I'm a pro-linux myself but he actually gave some good advice.
you got a point there which is important to the discussion, if the source is closed, how can we know if the test is fair?
... asteroids vs duke nukem :D

To make this more slashdot worthy, I really recommend the url below to read about font rendering on varoust platform and why only mac gets it right.

Good one!

Did you hear that? That was the joke running by your head :-)
Free Speech Regulations. What can (and can't) be said, whether out loud, in front of your boss, or on-line.
That scares me the most.
robster cross? what the fuck is robster cross?
