    hrm I guess this quake install that I just did should be impossiable seeing as I have XP:) yes the dos version of quake (the orignal) probly did require dos but their was a quake pack released with the expansions that had winquake and glquake (which runs at > 200 fps on todays machines. Which installs just fine under windows XP

    Janus was hacked in less than 40 seconds in public implementation because of a buffer overflow that hackers found. Microsoft != Security so what makes you think they are going to do any better with DRM.

    I use Pc-Cillin it is subscription based but it doesnt take up as much memory or processor as mcafee or norton

    if spammers can afford to hop isps every few days they can surely afford the $2000 a year for the .mail domain. This top level domain is worthless and should be shot down before it even gets anywhere.

    Of course when I was a kid I ended up disabling the onboard sound and it took me 6 months to figure out what I had done to it :) Boy were my parents pissed they couldn't figure out what I had done to it

    Of course nowadays I know more about computers than any sane person and build my own from scratch.

    Of course All we need now is ATI to release a cheaper card that does the same things because I can't pay $400 just for a video card. The Nvidia cards at least have a lower end model that supports most of the features the big one does (well in the FX series)

    Another option would be to have the computer only activate windows file sharing if you tell it to and the ports that WFS uses + all the other MS stuff shouldnt even respond (ie like its firewalled) the XP default firewall may do this but it seems more and more it ships from the factory defaulted to off.
    if you want to activate it Have a giant popup screen come up and say by activating Windows File Sharing you are suspectiable to viruses and other bad things are you sure you want to continue. The person that was just playing around will be shocked and not click on Yes.
    But Firewalling the port off at the isp level should be the last resort. People really should have to pass a test to take a computer home like basic internet security 101. This is just some alternatives to firewalling I feel might help

    I belive that virtualhost should be made and all the RIAA sco lawsuits should go in there. and also have the option to exclude it from the home page. Everyone is sueing everyone nowadays of course in 2191 years money wont exist then. and we might have been wiped out already:)

    Or the Auto Manufactors are going to use this excuse to sell you a WAY MORE expensive auto jumper cable that does the upstepping auto. And then they will make it so anyone trying to make a copy of it will get charged with DMCA violations.
