Exactly - just look at alcohol.. why the number of gin-runners and speakeasies is through the roof since the lifting of prohibition..
Gin-runners still exist. They just don't carry gin much anymore and like to go around in circles. Something called NASCAR, originally boosted by white lightning runnin'.
Bar Code scanning has been around since the early 70s. Pre-8080 era. Processing a bar code doesn't require a lot of CPU cycles. Granted, it does take a bit more CPU to do transformations on an image scan. I don't think the problem is CPU, more towards RAM speed and limits.
Still, the biggest thing eating the battery on the phone is the wireless chip and antenna. The wireless data network is the bottleneck and will be for quite some time.
Long story short, if it's a profitable tech for the phone companies, there will be dedicated bar code scanners built into phones way before Google starts image processing the masses random pictures of bar codes.
Works whether its on MySQL, Oracle, or MSSQL , assuming you have the procedure in place on all three.
Granted, I agree that all servers support the standard. There are standard method workarounds in almost all languages to help make your app DB neutral.
I leased a 2008 Camry Hybrid in January. I use this mainly as a commuter car on a low mileage lease.
The money factor was insanely low (.09%)
Also, the anticipated resale value of the car is at 58%. With the way used Priuses are going for almost as much as new, I am betting safely that Toyota missed the ball on the resale value on the lease agreement. A high resale value equals a lower lease payment.
Dodge stopped leasing because the plunging value of SUVs...
This makes it worth it to either buy out the car for trade in value when the lease agreement is up or apply its current market value as a trade in.
When gas goes up, the resale of my car goes up.
The "Time Value of Money" goes out the window unless you are paying cash for the car. Also, the tax credit factor may be available to offset (doesn't apply for new Camrys or Priuses). Since a significant portion of cars are leased, from a financial standpoint, hybrids always make sense in this standpoint.
Where have you been? Anderson imploded after Enron. The investigators of the Anderson-Enron probe decided to charge Anderson as a COMPANY instead of the 15 or so individuals involved. This triggered a cascade of Major clients leaving Anderson accounting, causing the Big Accounting Five to become the Big Accounting Four.
Thousands of people laid off in Chicago. Besides the direct Anderson workers, the hundreds of supporting companies down to the janitorial level had to layoff thousands.
Most phones support external antenna hookups. Just start taking the rubber piece off by the antenna stub that is round, about the size of the O on the keyboard.
There are plenty of snake oil salesmen ready to steal your money with "shielding."
YADMNRF6 ? If I expended effort to come up with a funny acroynym.... and congrats to the LDAP module for finally getting an Alpha out yesterday (July 20th) for 6.0.
Why is 6 so hard to code for? Why is the enterprise module development so lagging?
How about a bus company starting to run trains - is that cross field? If so why should it be illegal? How about an automobile company (General Motors) using a front company (National City Lines) to rip up the light rail systems in major cities and replace them with... automobiles and buses?
GMC was convicted of anti-trust violations, later reversed.
... to save on bandwidth costs and spam appliances.Sound business strategy and relieves your email headaches! Until Google gets serious into the webhost business and you just gave them a list of all your customers. Or Googles spam filters start throwing your invoices into the spam folder. GENIUS!
This is why companies never do joint ventures unless forced.
How is this +5?
At NO time has the bank the legal authority to debit or even block access to the funds in merchant's account. Bull.
After researching the dispute, the customer's bank can issue a chargeback. Then your merchant bank will issue a chargeback fee on top of the chargeback!
Depending on your merchant provider, before the dispute stage a customer will request a receipt or information. Greedy merchant account banks will charge a fee for this - which you MUST comply as part of your credit card agreement.
Yes, you can get screwed by a merchant bank just as you can with paypal. The difference here is time to react. A merchant bank will at least give you respect and time to research and resolve the situation before laying down the hammer.
Google "chargeback" (I refuse to post wikipedia links)
What about an old laptop + PdaNET Software (June Fabrics)? Verizon Treo 700w data plan: $54 a month. Treo 700w cradle from Ebay: $15. June Fabrics PDANet: $35 + tax. Old XP Laptop = $300 more or less.
This is the solution I use on the train. Works just fine.
At our company I will repeatedly tell other department heads when we complete a project or as a casual reminder what the man hour savings are.
One of my projects was to automate a certificate system that reduced the average time to process and generate an education certificate. The average time to process a certificate went from 10-15 minutes per to 1 minute per. This saves hundreds of man hours, and subsequently thousands of dollars in labor in that department.
Another of a projects we maintain is the e-commerce system. Without it, we would have double to triple our Customer Service staff to process calls. This saves labor, floor space and support space.
You need to do this kind of reminding -regularly.- Another I have heard/followed is "Always eat lunch with someone above you." This advice is self serving for career, promotions, but in hard times - to remind the value of yourself and what you do.
If you hide in your cube all day coding/sysadmin/DBA jockeyin without the social selling, it doesn't always pay.
See if you can find a Linksys NSLU2 somewhere for your needs.

I bought a 2008 Camry Hybrid in January of this year. My car is eligible for $0 tax credit.
Since the 2008 Camry Hybrid only came out late last year, the maximum possible credit you are eligible for is $650... Not $2000.

I also doubt you get 55 MPG in that thing, I get 43 on occasion, 36 most of the time in city driving. On the highway it gets 35 MPG. 2000/250 = 8 MPG.
Unless there were state tax credits involved, there is FUD at work here and this is NOT an informative post.

My snarky answer to all the people wanting more detail in SimCity 4 was Chicago City Hall.
Bulldoze airports at midnight!
Bulldoze Parks and replace with museum!
Adjust slider on Train and Road budgets to 30%.
Tear down some slums, add some parks, create high wealth residential.

So in the Alltel commercials, does the Verizon tech lookalike now get to noogie "Chad," and make him drive the "Wizard" van?
Facts about Chicago architecture:

CentOS 5 is a blend of Fedora and RHEL. Getting Fedora or CentOS to place nice in VMware depends on how the distro feels that day.
How can I build a corporate website in Drupal 6 if LDAP ISN'T READY FOR 6? Active Directory, OpenLDAP, Fedora Server....nada.

Unless those Maxtor drives were doing the click of death... I suggest you get a multimeter to your power supply for over/under voltage.
Thermal issues may come into play here.
If the firmware/serial numbers were near the same than it was probably a batch/fab issue.
(Former HD recover tech that had to deal with pallets of failed Maxtor drives.)
