I find that people who use debuggers rely on them like a habit. A co-worker of mine would be lost without Totalview. For him, developing and testing software would not be complete without a debugger handy.
For me, I have given up using a debugger because its annoying to run and to use correctly. I used to use gdb through Emacs and the process became so time consuming. Now, I use a process of commenting and outputing. If the code is written correctly (appropriate return values, funciton usage, etc.), this can prove to be sufficient.
Both methods are laborious and time consuming, but are a matter of preference and what you are used to. Software development was never meant to be quick and easy...

I disagree. I feel that physics is the foundation of practical science. Without a knowledge of how and why things work, we would have never been able to advance modern civilization.
I think colleges should treat wireless connections in a way that if the student chooses to abuse it during class and fail, it's their fault.
As a former TA, where I would teach a C++ course in a 250 person lecture hall, all I asked for is quiet. I could really give a rat's ass if the kids were playing quake or downloading porn. If they chose not to pay attention to my class, that was their perogative. I wasn't paying their $10K a year to attend college, all I asked was for some peace and quiet so the responsible students could contrate on my lecture. Let them fail!
1.) Who holds conressional seats, senatate seats, judges, etc. Lawyers make the laws.
Not true... Judges yes, but not necessarily Congressmen or Senators. Some are businessmen, some hold degrees in public policy. A law degree is not a pre-requisite for a job in public office. Our president was never a lawyer.
If you have a broke leg, you have to see a doctor. You pay the bill one way or another.
Not true either... you might not have to pay the bill at all. Insurance might cover it. But, doctors pay huge sums for malpractice insurance. General physicians (family doctors, gyno's, pediatricians, etc.), don't make as much money as they used to.
Sure it's tough to be a lawyer or doctor Becoming a doctor, yes. Becoming a lawyer... NO. Anyone can go to law school these days...
Being an accountant is far tougher than a lawyer. You have to to through five years of schooling, two years of auditing and pass a killer exam (CPA is broken up into four parts. Often regarded as the hardest professional exam).
I know plenty of people in law school and after their first year, they do sh!t. I've worked with lawyers in the past and they were a joke.
By the way... big fan of your site. you were on of the first phish sites out there. check out my primitive phish page... members.aol.com/GonPhishn9/phish.html
I got so excited when I saw Phish and Slashdot... I needed to put my two cents in.
Phish has always had a huge presence on the net and they are one of the first bands to utilize the latest web technologies....
Do you remember during one of the summer tours in I think 97, when they had the webcast? I remember sitting in my friends house watching streaming video of a show on a 33.6 modem. It was pretty phat.
As a long time fan who is now old enough to appreciate the days of trading tapes, b&p, etc,... this is what will keep the music thriving. their studio albums are horrendous(especially the new release "Round Room."), the live element of their music keeps its allure. One needs to go to a show sober (as I have), to truly appreciate the attraction to their music. Their jams meld elements of jazz, blues, classic and progressive rock. For someone who is a true music lover, Phish offers a wide variety of styles to enjoy. They have opened many musical doors for me and my cd collection now spans decades and styles. This offering will keep fans like me, who don't have the time to orchestrate trades and search for music, this can keep me enjoying music that I love.
I receive tons of spam on AIM. Pr0n spammers make up AIM screennames and send out links in the message. My screenname is not connect to any email address and I have never given it out, only to associates.
Do you see the use of graphical languages such as the one being developed by Mr. Charles Simonyi's company, Intentional Software Company, as a practical and powerful enough tool to develop robust and secure software?
What's so amazing about this product? you still have to move your hands off the home row to perform the gestures. It doesnt seem to reduce the elbow strain from constantly moving my right hand to the mouse. The little mouse dot on laptop keyboards is far better because it allows your hands to remain on the home row.

VNC, No Longer Orphaned
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
VNC is widely used in our company. It is a great alternative to a dual boot or or devoted Linux machine. Some people just arent up to speed with using the Linux operating system as their main environment. They use VNC on Windows to most of their development and use Windows for everyday applications such as Visio, Office, IE, Outlook, etc. (Ironically, all MS products..)
Its also a huge benefit for the sys admin so he doesnt have to waste time configuring each PC to meet the exact testing standards. We can just run a VNC client on Windows and have a Linux environment. No extra installment or configuration time.
VNC is a vital cost and time saver in our company.

Doesn't the school have the right to restrict the content on their servers??? If you set up a web site that is against your company/college/school's policy or beliefs, I think they have the right to ask you to take down the objective material.
is when people send IM's using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling. Take Mom in this mock IM. example...
Kid: wuzup mom, hows it goin... im gr8 Mom: Hi Jalulah, how are you doing? I am fine. Are you doing your homework? Kid: nah... im just surfin da net Mom: Well, you know what they say, "If it is not on Google, it does not exist.". Kid: r u smokin w33d.... p
That just drives me crazy!... but so does slang on IM's. A happy medium must be found.
The events in the past IM were purely fictional. I do not know of any Jalulah that smokes weed or any Jalulah for that matter.
What these companies must focus on the most is the ease of installation if the user would like to dual boot.
Is it really legal for Reebok to use TPS reports in their commercial? I doubt it.
Highway to Hell??
Go ahead, mod me down...
Hahahaha that was great... mod this guy up
I would prefer a buffalo wing patch on my right arm and a beer on my left arm.

That is the case in ALL jobs that are below lawyer or doctor in the food chain.
Wrong.
Their are more Lawyers in law school than that are practicing the profession.
Doctors are not as wealthy as they used to be because of the high costs of insurance.
Accountants are sitting pretty now because they made the major a five year program in college.
