    taking apart a monitor can be deadly. There's still a fair amount of voltage in monitors.

    They should not really be mucked about with by case modders unless they carry lots of life insurance and don't care about getting electrocuted.

    If you're going for the "Young Einstein" look, then maybe modding monitor cases could be a lucrative career option for you, but for everyone else? Well, the what-should-be-obvious applies:WARNING! HIGH VOLTAGE!

    Oh, and for the IBM stuff? That's easy. They have dumpsters outside, don't they? Get the h00kup from some disgruntled employee that has access to parts. Just give them beer, works everytime..

    Better yet - get a small 4 channel Mackie mixing board and hook up multiple audio devices to it, and run the output to your computer. I think you can happily clean up files in Peak LE. Besides, with everything hooked together to a mixing board, you can finally make mp3s out of that big pile of records you have while cleaning up the audio a bit at the same time. ;)

    I've got some older CDs that are now out of print, and *VERY* difficult to find. I would rather not risk having the CD get lost/stolen/damaged/whatever and not being able to replace it.

    Why doesn't the RIAA/whoever allow out-of-print material to be released to emusic.com or something? They're not going to make CDs of the material again, why not let someone actually enjoy it? Hrmph.

    Just think of how much business FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express, DHL, and other small courier companies make off of internet commerce. These packages that people are purchasing need to get from point A to point B somehow. If online sales end up taxed, there will no longer be any point to buying online because you'll be hit with tax *and* shipping & handling. People will just buy stuff locally (unless the local vs online price has a huge difference) and shippers will suffer in the long run.

    Yes, remember Transmeta's Crusoe processor?

    http://www.rlx.com - they're usually at LinuxWorld showing off their blade server units. They sell them with either Pentium III chips or Crusoe chips.

    Pretty cool stuff..

    What would be cool is if they could offer some select local channels as well. For example, I listen to KGO 810 AM quite a lot (I have a long ass commute) and I'd love to be able to listen to it when I travel East up into the mountains and beyond.

    Stuff like that would be worth the $10/mo to me.. *shrug*

    Even worse, their pilots! That's the LAST airline I'd want to fly on if I couldn't see.

    Wait.. that came out wrong.. maybe being blind on Southwest *IS* a good thing. That way you can't see as Captain Kangaroo bounces you down the runway...

    SpamAssassin works great (and it's www.spamassassin.org now, btw..) but spam still gets through. It's still creating a load on my mail server.

    Spammers find ways around filters. Notice that they're using l33t sp33k now? I get very short 2 line spams for "h0t r@pe sit3s" now that just slip right by SpamAssassin.

    It's a game that they play. *Some* sort of legislation works. At least it gives Joe Average a way to fight back and go after spammers. The ISPs can go after spammers and recoup damages, if any occured.

    I'm sick of having to build walls just to keep idiot spammers out. I have other things that I'd rather spend time on.

    I don't recall seeing the guy ask where he can go if he wants to get YELLED at all of the time and made to run through mud, jungles, and other places. Besides, a LOT of the military divisions these days are adding *more* tech to their everyday lives. He said that he was looking for something with *less* tech.

    Sheesh.. if he wanted to get yelled at, he'd just need to stay in his cube all day. I'm sure he gets enough of it. :P

    Besides.. I used to work with someone that joined the Navy. you know where wound up? Fallon Naval Air Station - in the middle of friggin Nevada. Now *that's* seeing the world.. not. :P

    So we're going to be seeing MORE "studies" showing that Windows is cheaper to maintain? I'm sure they will be able to skew that towards Windows, but it's pretty hard to skew the fact that it costs quite a bit more to initially set up a Windows-based server infrastructure than a Linux-based one.
    As far as the other bit? The major software that people would be replacing is Microsoft Office. I wonder how many are replacing it with something *cheaper* - like Corel's office suite. Gateway is already doing that...

    My power bill is *higher* because of Linux. I'm crazy and have multiple servers running about the house.

    However, a few of them are Pentium III units, so my gas bill (for heating) has dropped like a rock.

    I just wish it was equal to the amount my power bill went up. :-)

    The apartment stays nice and warm. If I lived in Alaska, this would not be a bad thing. But in Sacramento, CA... well, I like my home sauna, let's just leave it at that.

    Someone needs to take them back to court for this.. or try to get the cort to neatly spell out every little detail of what M$ is required to do. This interpretation of the "settlement" is just absurd. And what a slap in the face of the rest of the world.. making you use friggin MICROSOFT PASSPORT to gain access.
    And "request" forms? Have they denied anybody the forms? Are they allowed to deny forms? Great. They're going to be nice and slow..and selective..

    Un friggin believable. I can't believe they're just getting away with all of this.

    Yeah. IE has introduced me to more security problems and buffer overflows than I can shake a stick at. Although, I progressed far beyond Netscape Navigator (Communicator has been around for years now) and went with Mozilla.
    Last time I recall, Netscape & Mozilla both had search features, history features, and organizing bookmarks? Geez. Been there for years.

    If anybody actually wrote something like that, it's someone that has never really bothered to read the help files of their web browser.
